The Gulf of Tonkin incident, the interception of Japanese plans to attack Pearl Harbour followed by ignoring the warnings as they wanted to retaliate show that the US is not above deception and evildoings to ensure it reaches its goals.
This is true of ALL nations however, I don't think USA can be singled out as being worse than any other, it just happens they are currently more powerful than any other.
They are clearly far worse, you just need to look in more detail at the particular cases I have given to see how selfishly and brutally the US acts. Seldom has US foreign intervention been for the good of any particular group of people.
Of course what I am saying is going to upset good old American citizens, but it's the cold harsh truth. I can deal with a little bit of red rep off Lyle.

I don't really care either way as far as America is concerned, God's word is silent regarding them specifically so you can hate unabated as far as I'm concerned.

America is the main problem with the world. Israel is really nothing in comparison. I guess Israel will be hoping the decay of America will be a slow and long drawn out process, which I think it will. But in the meantime, it needs to foster better relations and learn to be a credible state, because without American backing, Israel no longer exists.
I'm going to start reading The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein. I wonder what threads this one will inspire. But seriously, get off your arses you lazy fucks and read some books! Stop spooning the media down your throats and start to think outside the box. You all sound like bloody sheep. You are better than that.
I am reading a couple hundred pages each week and religiously reading 3-4 newspaper a day (varying depending of my humor), no worries for be Bilbo, you should even be proud of me ;)

You are one of the good guys, nameless. You are informed and astute with it, we rarely disagree on this stuff. The trouble with most people is that they take their media at face value and leave it at that. We all know that the media is trying to force a certain perspective, it's all about getting beyond that and seeing the facts for what they really are. Most indoctrinated people will see a thread title like mine and the jaw will drop. "How can he say such a thing? Blah blah blah". But it isn't a particularly new nor profound thing that I am saying. Everybody knows it's quite true when they actually think about it.

Miles we do read books mate, just not the same book as you happen to be inspired by. Right now I'm reading Melanies Philip's 'The World Turned Upside Down' which is a great read, exposing the growing rise of anti-semitism in the world today and the ever increasing spread of Islam on the Western World. A very good book.
After that I'm down to read Peter Hitchen's 'The Rage Against God' which also looks good, and then I'm going to take some time off from world affairs and read Brian Cox's 'Why does E=MC2?', seeing as JBoogie bought it on my recommendation, guess I best see if it's any good after all.:p

Just remember Chomsky isn't infallible mate. He has his own rigid anarchist ideals and pretty much prefers every terror group on the planet to the US and Israel.
I think he's a bit of a knob personally but I am tempted to get that book, have a read of the great man.

No, Chomsky isn't infallible. No man is, we all get things wrong sometimes. That is the price you pay for having varied opinions on a wide range of issues. But he is quite right all too often though. Seriously check out Understanding Power. It covers so many things and everything is supported by verifiable facts. It's the best book I have read in years, but then I have been reading books with titles like "Advances in written text analysis" and "Fundamental considerations in language testing". Any book would seem fun to me really.

America has done some awful things, literally every nation in the world has over the last 100 years, but it's only the depth of their power and their reach which makes them seem so egregious to you. As the only global superpower, they're very easy to take shots at and much of it is deserved, but to call them the "leading terror state in the world today", whatever that means, if absurd. There are dozen's of nations which, if they had the power of the U.S., would be exponentially worse. In fact, if it wasn't for their troops guarding the country you live in, you could very well be living in a war-zone.

I am a political history graduate myself. I would imagine that I have a fair bit of formal education, but independant reading is where most of my knowledge has come from. Okay you've followed your reading list and written a couple of papers, it doesn't make you an expert either. Anyone can be an expert in something as trivial as global affairs.
So I should be thankful to America for protecting me. Okay, and the Koreans should be grateful that their country was torn to the ground, that their human rights were decimated and that they suffered a dictatorship for over 30 years. Why wasn't America bothered with human rights and democracy for so long? Because it didn't matter to them.

In the case of Korea the American influence has been positive, but it has only turned out so well by following the Japanese model. They restrict foreign influence and focus heavily on exports. So in a sense Korea has done well by denying the usual US role and influence in its economy. It's a very unusual case actually.

I'm not writing a paper here, I am unwinding with a scandalously titled thread, it's nothing to get too worked up about. I believe it's quite true, but no doubt there are numerous other states with a checkered past too. America is leaps and bounds above any of those others though and that's the simple point that I am making. It's nothing to write a postcard to gran about.
