Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Wasn't everyone lining up berto to fight Pac just a little while ago, now the guy that beat Berto isn't a good enough option for Floyd? I also wonder why theres not as much talk of the catchweight for Pac-Marquez. People were dissing Mayweather for it, oh he only fights smaller guys. Last time Pac-marquez fought was super-feather. Somehow the older guy isnt the one that can go up in weight as much, man that Pacquiao has such a great nutritionist! Jumping his weigh in up 13 lbs in the span of nine months, how does he do it?!?!
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Allegedly, Floyd has been guaranteed $40m for this fight.
Wow.

Exactly, summed up in that one line !
Ortiz should play silly beggars and request Floyd do a drugs test.
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
It's a fair matchup, but not the one we were looking for. I struggle to see Mayweather having a difficult time with Ortiz who doesn't have a jab and is too easy to hit. Berto was a good win, but that was Berto who none of us really rated. Mayweather is a different league skillwise and I struggle to see where Ortiz can make an impact. That defence is too good and Ortiz doesn't have the output to really pressure Mayweather for 12 rounds either.
As a tune up for Pac it is ideal, but you get the feeling that Mayweather has looked for someone with weaknesses and wants his payday for the year. He will likely vanish for another 18 months after getting the win.

For Floyd, its risk worth taking, but why would he risk his career and potential 50million for Ortiz if he has the chance to jump on to the mega fight with pac? But I honestly give credit to Floyd for cutting his 'vacation' short.
Now Roger was qouted saying that Ortiz fight is a harder challenge than a Pacman fight. Why the hell did they take the harder fight for the less money then? That goes to show you that they are very much into ducking mode when it comes to pac.
Did you mean Pac would rather make less fighting Floyds leftovers for less money.......when he could take a drug test and make more?

But it's a tune-up so that's fine.
The idea that beating as limited a guy as Victo Ortiz means something is pretty funny.
He's a top contender, I'm amazed that you have a problem with this considering how much emphasis you place on the old guys facing top contenders.
The idea Victor Ortiz is a top contender is one of the saddest concepts I've seen in a while ;)
Especially when you consider the fact that he is the Champion in this fight :p
........
I think the thing that interests me most is the idea that Ortiz is effectively another 'youth & aggression' fighter while Mayweather will be 34 1/2 and I'm just now starting to wonder if there's any rust setting in?
He seemed fine against Marquez but I had some reservations about his legs in the Mosley fight so I'm keen to see how he does...
This is the sort of fight an old man looses.
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Seeing as Victor Ortiz is the champion, I expect Floyd Mayweather to enter the ring first...

Floyd gets dropped in the first round as part of an elaborate scheme to draw even more interest and bets against him to get kayoed by pac. It will drive his purse above 100 million in a fight against Pac in 2012, with some catchy promotional build up tied to the Mayan prediction of the world ending. (MAYWEATHER/PACQUIAO - THE BIG BANG) Floyd will have Bruce Willis wearing his Armageddon wardrobe during his ring walk. Pacman will fly out in his costume from his film, and I'll be streaming it, because neither is getting another dime from me for PPV.

I'd bet everything I own that Floyd has made it one of his demands for the fight. No way does he come into the ring first after nearly a year and a half out. I'm sure Ortiz will be ok with it, though. He will be happy just to share a ring with Floyd.

Oh man, thats worse than catchweights imo, the champion should come out last. Ortiz better keep his mentality in check and walk like a champ.
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
I'm a big Floyd fan. But now it's time for him to lose!!! I hate to say it, but, although I thinks he defeat Pacman, I believe he's scared of Pacman.
This fight gave me an headache. Got so many mix thoughts.
1. At least it's not against Spadora
HELL, he should bring Spad in to spar
2. At this stage in their careers, Ortiz hits harder then Mosley. And Mosley had stop the clock for :59 or so.
3. Southpaw? Although like someone said, Ortiz and Manny don't fight nothing alike, this will be a great time to try Naz Ric gameplan in turning a southpaw.
4. It's no way the boxing world would give Manny any crap for paying JMM off(if the contract is already signed-doubt it) to fight Floyd.
5. Floyd did have to beat the court system first.
6. Why Berto can't excercise a rematch clause? He need to find a new promoter!!!
BTW, what's next for Berto? Bradley on the undercard?
7. Ortiz keeps his hands up high for the entire fight. So Floyd's laser jab to the head won't be a major factor(early) On the other hand, Floyd's jab to the stomach will break Ortiz down. Not to mention, Floyd's pocket fighting(as long as it's not against the ropes. Even then Ortiz loads up and square up to much. Floyd will dominate that area.
8. A focus Ortiz makes a great fight.
9. Ortiz said Manny and Freddie gave him advice and confidence before the Berto fight. They going to lied to his ass this time and tell his to pressure Floyd so he can get his ass beat. Keeping the hope alive.
10. If people was offer Manny $65 to $75 million to anybody. Floyd just might get that $100M purse. I wonder if it's possible.

1. Clottey was one of my favorite Welterweight at the time. Have great defense. And before the Pacman fight, was getting hit by a loaded glove fighting Margarito. I gave Clottey a chance. Good chance.
2. Margarito had something to prove. And although he's slow as a snail, I thought his presuure and a solid chin would give him a chance to hit Manny more then once. Although I wanted Manny to destroy the cheater, I gave him a chance to make it a solid fight.
3.Mosley was suppose to fight back. We all knew Pacman was going to win, but we all also thought Mosley was going to fight at soem point. And we know Mosley can crack. It was suppose to be competitive.
4. JMM? We have to wait and see.

I don't see the point in this fight at all other than to make a little bit of pocket change.
The ONLY rational behind it is some sort of tune up fight to see if he still has 'it'.
He's been out the ring for over 18 months I think, so at least he has that excuse for not being in a competetive fight.
ALSO this fight is only going to amplify accusations from pactards etc that he is 'scared' of pacroid.
Really I don't know why he'd go ahead with this fight. Might as well stay retired.
Ok I see the phrase "pacroid" so I will take it that you believe that he uses steroids. I am waiting for Floyd Sr and Jr to show us the proof they have that he has or currently does use steroids. Until then I will lump that accusation with the same people who accuse Floyd of being "Gayweather".
