I can't believe this is true, I hope it's true, but I dont think it will be. Two reasons why:
1) I didn't think Mayweather would ever fight again
2) Ortiz is actuallly quite good and in the form of his life, coming off of a war that impressed many people
.....I want Victor to win, but I'll only watch if it's on regular HBO. I'm not buying any Mayweather Jr. or Pacquiao PPV's unless they fight. I'm putting my financial foot down.
Ortiz doesn't have a jab...he better bring his heart and his A game and better hope Floyd has an off day because even then Floyd has good D, he's quick as hell and he'll fight dirty.
This a tune up fight for Pac plain and simple. It is amazing how many people fall for all of the spectacle and lies that is in the heart of boxing and PROMOTION. Floyd vs. Pac will happen. Why? Because when all is said and done...boxing like all professional sports is about money/revenue. And that fight will generate the most money. That is why i laugh when people only accuse Mayweather of only caring about money. Really? Pac would fight for free if he could?! Leaches like Arum and Golden Boy want as much profit as they can get. All this hoopla about drug testing, bad blood between promoters, retirement, etc...is all build up people! Having said all of that...Floyd has not fought in a long while. He will need a tune up to get ready for the Pac fight. Is Oritz a major threat? No. But he is a young, live body who is a southpaw. No need to analyze or blow this thing up for anything more than it is.
Tune up for Pac. He isn't facing Pac unless we can see clear evidence of Pac slipping. If that occurs, Floyd will be right there to sign for the fight. Otherwise, he won't.
It's a tune-up for Manny. Ortiz has zero, and I mean zero shot to win this fight.
But it's a tune-up so that's fine.
The idea that beating as limited a guy as Victo Ortiz means something is pretty funny.

Maybe, but Mayweather & Pacquiao aside there's no better 147lber. He beat the best other guy.
I also think Ortiz is better than being given credit for by many here. I think he's big & strong enough to cause some real problems to Mayweather, who I don't believe hits as hard as Maidana or Berto.
Floyd by wide UD. I say Floyd takes at least 10 rounds.
Floyd Mayweather wins this fight easily.
He's a level above Ortiz.
---
He moves in straight lines, forgets his jab for long periods, has a mediocre ring IQ and is extremely easy to hit (all by the standards of good fighters). Now Ortiz IS big (what exactly do you call a welter who fights in the ring as a super-middle?) and strong and has heavy hands. I don't think those are the traits that can cause a Mayweather (if he is still Mayweather) problems though. I think things that cause Floyd (if he is still Floyd) trouble are fast hands, fast feet and the ability to make Floyd pursue rather than counter. I think Floyd pecks him to death, tires him out and knocks him out late. Ortiz doesn't win a round after the first.
Of course at 34 there is some chance Floyd is no longer Floyd. It'll happen at some point. Then all bets are off.

I should say I am THRILLED Floyd is getting back in the ring. We don't get to watch great fighters all that often. Now we get one more time.
