This time Peterson should forget about boxing Khan from the off and realise that he has to be a bull in a china shop. Khan is too stupid to stick with a gameplan or listen to his corner, so once you take him out of his comfort zone the fight evens up somewhat. Peterson needs to do the same, but try and rip to the body immediately. Run at Khan and make him fluster.
Khan stuck to his gameplan very well against Malinaggi and Zab Judah. He just seemd to lose his head against Peterson and go for broke.
Stick Khan in with Maidana in that ring and we would be getting diced kebab then.
It's probably easier against someone who has no punch and another who doesn't throw punches though. Peterson offered something a bit different in trying to tear it up a bit. It was like Maidana but much better at closing his man down and unleashing.
I think the ring was much smaller than it was when Khan fought Maidana.
Stick Maidana in that ring then and we all have ourselves a serving of diced kebab, perhaps even with a little extra natural sauce.
Could have, if you want to forget the fact that Maidana was just as close to being stopped in that fight.

Have always thought khan is overated and this fight proved it. His post fight whining aint endearing either. He bitched at mcloskey for complaining about the stoppage, he ridiculed judah for making excuses and now he expects us to defend him when he loses? Nah, fuck him

Agree with your points about the 'bitching', but are you saying that your actual scorecard was 115-110 Peterson?? Tat means you only gave Khan 3 more rounds after the 1st?
No. I had Peterson winning 115-112. Without the two points deducted I still had Lamont nicking it by 1 point.

No, Cotto is the biggest non-Pac money earner for Floyd. Not that I'm interested in that fight at all.

Come on this isn't exactly Lewis v Holyfield I is it. Or even poor Derek Chisora a couple of weeks back.
This was a close fight. Any sane person knew that Khan, without the deductions, had shaded the fight. So after being docked 2 points why are some shocked that he then lost an MD ?!?
Just don't get it.
I've not read any of the papers but I hardly think it's the judges scorecards people are protesting but the point deductions. Had Khan not been docked two points he would have retained his title on the judges cards. The referee directly influenced the result and most impartial observers believe the deductions were poor calls, terrible according some.
It's like the first Agbeko Mares fight. There the referee directly gave Mares the title by calling a blatent low blow foul shot a knockdown and giving Mares a 10-8 round when he in fact should have been docked a point.
It wasn't the decision that was wrong in either fight but the refereering.
It's no surprise people are upset about yet another fight marred.
Peterson himself deserves credit though, he fought an excellent fight and even without the deductions was still totally in this fight.
they are accusing sub-standard judging as well as poor refereeing.
re the fouling I seem to remember even Jim Watt saw the second point deduction coming from aroung the 9th maybe ??
I didn't think there was anything wrong with the judging. Very close fight and with two points taken away it probably went to the right guy imo.
Peterson fought a very good fight and gave a career best effort. Not sure if Khan looked past him or was expecting a totally different style of fight but he obviously has to own ultimate responsibilty for the loss. As Rantacat said, Peterson was supposed to be a fairly routine defence for Khan. The point deductions were horribly unfair imo, but disregarding them Khan still struggled desperately.
It's definitely a rematch I am really looking forward to.

I actually feel that the judging was slanted towards Khan if anything, but the ref was so bad and so biased that it's going to overshadow everything until the rematch.
Re: Who won the Khan vs. Peterson fight ?
I think that Peterson deserved the W. Although they may seem a little harsh to some people, Khan deserved to be dropped the points, he clearly has never been taught how to deal with a boxer who is strong enough to get on the inside put his head on your chest and pretty much stay there pressuring you throughout so all he did all night was push Peterson away or hold his head down. Both are fouls and when used excessively deserve to have points taken away. It's not as though Khan wasn't warned.
Without losing the 2 points I would have given Khan the win but he did lose the points and as a result I had Peterson just edging it.
Re: Who won the Khan vs. Peterson fight ?
I had Lamont Peterson winning quite clearly, people can go off about the point deductions. But Lamont Peterson wasn't legitmately knocked down either, Amir Khan for certain deserved atleast one point took away.
You can't go to a guy's hometown and get hammered along the ropes, and do all the negative holding and running tactics. Lamont Peterson clearly hurt Amir Khan alot of times in the fight, had him very uncomfortable and he showed he wanted it more and he rightfully deserved to win IMO.

Re: Who won the Khan vs. Peterson fight ?
I'm surprised the majority have Peterson winning this. The best case scenario is for him is a 6-6 share of the rounds, which means Peterson wins by 1pt. And thats giving him the 10th and 11th which were the only 2 close rounds in the fight. The other 10 rounds were very easy to score
1,2 Khan
3,4 Peterson
5,6 Khan
7,8 Peterson
9 Khan
10,11 close rounds
12 Khan
Sure if you give Peterson the 2 close ones he wins by the 1pt but its much more likely overall % chancewise they split those close ones 1-1, have 1 for Peterson and 1 a draw, 1 for Khan and 1 a draw, both rounds a draw, or Khan winning both rounds. Theres 6 ways those rounds can be split (as above), only 1 sees Peterson winning the fight. 1 ends up with the fight a DRAW and 4 end up with Khan winning the fight. I think Khan can consider himself unfortunate to lose his titles as a result.
I havent seen many people mention Khan uppercutting Peterson after the ref called STOP in the 12th. It was clear as day, thats what the Pt should have been deducted for, not pushing. But by hook or crook, a point was deducted so justice was done. I also agree with Khan getting a point deducted elsewhere in the fight at some point for persistent fouling. Should the ref have made it more clear he was ready to deduct a point? Yes. But did Khan deserve a point taken? Yes. Imo the knockdown was pretty questionable but in liveplay I would have called it a KD too. So all in all, the points deductions and knockdown etc were fair enough imo.
I think the fairest scorecard for the fight was 113-112 Khan (so 7-5 Khan). I think he can consider himself unfortunate on the cards, though of course this is not a robbery of any kind.
