Now lyle you can choose to deny that there are psychological and physical damages from something as wicked and despicable as slavery and not only slavery ---- because you will choose to focus on that one particular point but also the lasting effects of it and even after slavery was abolished blacks were treated like absolute dog shit for another 100 years ----Now you can deny this all you want. please keep continuing to deny it. it doesn't make you look very good.
Since it wasn't your ass out there getting whipped working for free on a plantation for 400 years it's really easy for you to say that they should have gotten over this by now isn't it.
How many generations do you think it will take after slavery was abolished in order for the freed slaves to even begin to remotely try to get their heads around how to make themselves into first class educated well mannered and well spoken people. Do you seriously think one or two generations is sufficient to recover from an absolute total lack of education, complete lack of self esteem and self respect and inability to know how to advance in a society and to work together suddenly with white people who have been whipping your ass for 400 years and bad habits and strange expectations based on having been a slave.?
Fine, take the wheel drive this debate wherever you like....it's not like Capitalism made any blacks wealthy or anything. Oh it did??? It made a lot of them wealthy?!?!?! Well shit....but hey, you're the winner of this debate, I can tell you just want it so much more, let's have a do-over.Quote:

Oh, so not even DURING the heyday of slavery did it stop Madam C.J. Walker from achieving massive amounts of wealth....guess she didn't buy into the whole "I should be a victim" concept.
No, it wasn't my ass out there getting whipped and working for free neither was it denilson's, neither was it ANY BLACK MAN ALIVE TODAY.

Hell if I know Brockton, I'm wondering how long must I hear about how bad slavery was, segregation, etc because it seems in hindsight that these things are getting worse and not better every day....and frankly I'm fucking tired of it. I had nothing to do with slavery, slavery happened back in the day, it happened in the US, it happened in South America, it happens in other places to this day which we aren't talking about because we're focusing on envy....class envy, race envy, victimhood, those are the focuses today...not making things better, not moving forward....I hear a lot of "Give me this" or "We want this" and why? "My ancestors did _____" ......you aren't your ancestors anymore than I am mine, I shall pay no debt because I owe no debt, my hands are clean my conscience is clean, I've not held anyone back....have you?
Get me a fucking time machine and I'll fix the shit otherwise shut up about it and deal with reality.
Denilson has a point. However, picking isolated crimes to make that point doesn't work.
OJ Simpson - stabs two people to death. The crime scene, motor he was driving and house is smothered in DNA evidence, he goes on the run, basically admits to cutting their throats. He walks away innocent.
Damien Echols - spent 18 years on death row for a murder he didn't commit. Not a shred of evidence against him. He was found guilty because he was considered a weirdo "devil worshipper" by a bunch of god-fearing nutters - his crime was listening to rock music and reading Stephen King novels.
Black privilege? No. Wealth privilege.
Capitalism at the level of people buying and selling local goods is fantastic. You have a controlled supply of money and it circulates. Instead we have banks/central banks who produce 97% of the money and most of the money goes to the super rich who horde it away. That is a bastardisation of capitalism and has more in common with Soviet Communism.
What I advocate is capitalism, but capitalism run in the interests of local community, environmental safety, quality of life and a great way to do that would be through collectives. Kick out the senior management who suck it all away and the shareholders who don't care and have local people producing things and sharing the resources and wealth themselves. Take the infrastructure, make it local and caring, and everybody can share in the wealth. Capitalism in today's form means slavery for most and crony benefits for the elite.
I see what you are saying Miles. It's a funny thing, I'm no economist but it seems capitalism has been the mostsuccesful model put to use that I've seen and or read about. It's prone to abuse but I think that says more about man than capitalism. Historically, is there something other than capitalism that has been successfully implemented for a significant period of time.
I support capitalism. I like being able to buy things and I sell my labour to do it like anyone else. What I don't like though is the corporate fascism that is sweeping humanity over a cliff. Capitalism only works when there are effective checks and balances and those checks and balances are gone. Unchecked capitalism has to eat on humanity like a cancer whence things like interest rates never being able to rise again. I called Kirkland out on that years ago and he thought I was mad, but who was right on interest rates? This isnt capitalism. It is central bank run corporatist psychopathy. Most of those guys are white too, crony rich white guys. They aren't on my side, Denilson.
Yes to an extent. Some people get by due to their wealth, some people get by due to who they know, and some people are either lucky or unlucky. Some people who are wealthy are under more scrutiny when something bad happens around them....sometimes it depends on a news cycle or just who else as a celebrity or with wealth is willing and able to stand up and support or condemn the person in question.
Look at Matthew Broderick for example....in 1987 he and Ferris Bueller co-star Jennifer Grey were in a car wreck (Broderick was driving) which killed 2 people. They were first charged with "death by dangerous driving" and faced prison time (5 years) but then were later convicted of lesser charges and fined $175.00.
Motley Crue lead singer Vince Neil had a similar accident
Halle Berry was in a hit and run and didn't really get nailed for anything. Brandy Norwood (the singer) killed someone and didn't get jail time. Donte Stallworth, Leonard Little, etc have killed people in driving accidents and not gone to jail.
Some people get off, some people don't....the justice system isn't perfect, but it's better than some other systems
Proof that a sagacious, erudite language instructor employing merely Fingerspitzengefuhle or "gossamer intimations" blows away white boy yuppy "expert" business execs.
Me& Miles have been getting it BANG FUCKING ON politically and economically for years.
