How can 9.Nd5 be extremly common when the position after 8...Be6 rarely occurs? 7...gxf6 changes the essential nature of the position, and traditional assessments of the move Nd5 for white no longer apply.
I'm not talking about Nd5 after gxf6 I'm talking about the mainline after 7.Qxf6. Bruce was saying Qxf6 is the wrong move because white can follow up with 8.Nd5. I was just saying it's long been known to be inoffensive if black knows the main line.
This was my comment regarding 7. .... Qxf6
Using 7.... Qxf6 is not advisable because when Nc3 goes to d5, the Black queen will be forced to go back to d8. Besides, it's too early to use the queen. IMO.
In my point of view and explaining the move of the computer, Qxf6 may not be advisable. I did not say it was wrong. The canal variation of giuoco piano suggests Qxf6. The use of Qx6 is okay and is being used by grandmasters but in my humble opinion, black loses 2 moves with that move.
I was just explaining that the computer answered differently through 7.... gxf6 and it is without any reason.
It was not a schoolboy's move as you have claimed it is.
For the record, I won against the computer because it chooses gxf6 but it is without merit. I won because after the 17th move, I saw already a win. By the 21st move, I know I will win after 5 moves.
You were quick to judge and you repetitively insulted my game with the computer that's why I have to defend the computer's move.
For the record, I did set the computer's level to Kasparov and whether its moves are questionable or not, that I can not say for sure. Personally, I don't see any problem with those moves.
Just like what I've told you before, my abilities and knowledge in chess have already eroded because of inactivity. I haven't played chess for years and that could explain my lack of deeper understanding.
I was simply presenting a game I've won against a computer when I was still good(not excellent!) in chess.
Peace.
Hey Bruce, sorry Bruce but you are simply incorrect here, Qxf6 is a better move. It doesn't matter that black wastes time by moving the queen twice, he hasn't damaged his pawn structure, his position is still very solid and there are no weaknesses to exploit.
And its not as if white has gained a big lead in development anyway, first off you traded off your bishop for a knight not usually a good idea early, and then you followed up by moving the knight for a second time so white hasn't really gained much.
I keep saying it's a schoolboy opening because the this guioco pianissmo line and especially the Canal variation is played extensively in junior chess. If you watch any Under 12's, Under 14 championshiop type games etc you'll see these openings all the time.
It's becuase the classical Italian game is considered the best way to learn about classical chess and therefore nearly all juiors learn these openings and play them.
At grandmaster level, especially amongst the top players 3.Bc4 is selldom played as it's recognised that white's only chance for a long lasting inititive in the open games is with 3.Bc5 and the Ruy Lopez.
This isn't a criticism of you though, I'm only talking at grandmaster level, at club level the Italian game, due to its simplicity and directness with an immediate attack on the vulunurable f7 square can be very effective for white.
But back on point, your chess computer in this game played at a very weak level, not even close to its highest level. And Kasparov is a lifetime Silician player I'm confused practically from move 1 and the choice 1.e5 from Kaparov.

It wasn't very strong at all sadly, only around 1400 level tops but you won and that was the main thing. You played well though.
Chessmaster is a very customisable game and there are many different sliders and settings that affect the way it plays. This particular personality seemed to have a very small opening book, and very limited field depth you still won well.
Against a proper chess computer program though operating at full strength if you win you should immediately devote the rest of your life to the game as you'd be the best in the world within a year with proper study and there's plenty of money at the top.
And if you manage to beat Rybka at full strength with you playing black then you might even get in the record books as currently its beating GM's in official tournaments even at pawn and move odds.

For the record, I believe the youngest GM now is from the PHilippines.

Yeah he's not any more some little Indian kid became a gm earlier this year but I think he was last year. But it's great for chess that there are talented players from all over the world, Vishy Anand is currently the world's first Indian world champ and there are incredibly strong players across virtually the whole of Europe, China etc.
America is one comparatively one of the weaker countries with very little homegrown talent sadly, guess the game just isn't popular in a nation as dumbed down as the US. All the best US players are Russian or from countries that were formely part of the USSR.
One thing that's weird though is that there are no top black players that I know of anywhere in the world, Maurice Ashley is the only black GM I've heard of. Weird that an entire race seems to not play the game at all :thinking2:

Nice/weird observation. They excel in other sports but not chess.:-\
Maybe we're weak enough in their sports so we go to mind games where physical strength is not required or it could be the other way around.
Asians generally have smaller build so chess is a good fit for us. British are too fragile looking so they deserve to excel in chess.;D

Re: ICB Where did you learn to play chess mate?
The number of grandmasters in the world today approaches 1,000, at last count a grand total of six are from Africa, and most of them are Arabic, from Northern Africa. South of the Sahara there is only one grandmaster. Anyways, only one black grandmaster from Africa.
Women's chess is on the rise, but maybe there are 12-15 grandmasters. In most countries, and around the world, there are two categories of competition. One category is open to women only, the other is open to men and women. Really there is only one woman who can compete at the highest level with the men, that is Judit Polgar of Hungary. It is to her credit that she refuses to play in women's chess, even though she could make a decent dollar there.
It's an interesting debate as to why there are so few women in chess.

You know the thousand grandmasters CGM is that 1000 amongst current competitive players or 1000 grandmasters ever? I know you never lose the title so do you mean there's only been around a 1000 GM's so far?

Re: ICB Where did you learn to play chess mate?
Nice to know who your true friends are on here and who are the turncoat pricks, that all jump on the bandwagon to all try and pick on one guy. To be honest i couldn't give a shit what you all think.
I posted pictures of me and my girl but i don't post any stuff, about where i live and ETC. I don't know why thats so hard to understand for some people.
A picture of a person is different to details about your boxing gym or where you live. I didn't say im totally secretive but i only go so far as i said. And i don't trust anyone on the internet with that stuff.
To be honest Bilbo, CGM, you've both acted like a couple of complete tossers. I beat CGM in 2 games of Chess, what he also didn't tell you is that he also beat me in a game of Chess.
The score was 2-1 to me only and now im some sort of programming cheat ? please. It sounds like to me your jealous i joked with you CGM.
And you took it all serious and started shit, and you probably was jacking eachother off. Talking about me in PM's about me cheating about Chess.
Well you can well and truly go fuck yourself, and all the haters that showed there true colours trying to gang up on me, like stupid school kids in a playground can do the same.
I offered CGM a 1 minute game in Chess and he didn't want no part of it, i don't have to prove anything to anyone i know myself i don't cheat.
And to all these assholes on about me going on secondary accounts. You've obviously got short memories i made a thread about me leaving, which i did plan to do for a few months.
Then my dad passed away i was going through a real hard time, and i didn't want to comeback on my main account because i felt embarrassed.
So i made a secondary account to come on to get away from it for awhile. Then i admit it myself but still people hassle me about this, even though i actually explained the reason.
But whatever i don't care im not going to be on here that much and that is the truth. And not because of any of you losers thinking your forcing me out, because you mean nothing to me in my life.
But now i've got added responsibilities, but to my true buddies on here and you know who you are. Have a good one guys/girls, and thanks for all the debates and advice.

Ice everybody believes you cheated at chess simply becuase you were caught lying. Last year you said you'd only played twice and just about knew the moves, then when pressed about your wins over CGM you explained you were a chess prodigy at school with a 2100 rating (making you in the top two or three school children in the UK at that time) and that you studied grandmaster games.
Now one of those stances was clearly a lie. As you've unable to tell us which scholastic tournaments you entered, what school you represented, how you got on in the nationals and world juniors, the names of Grandmasters you studied, which openings your learned, what you reportiore was against CGM's King's Indian Defense in your game as white or have even manged to display one ioto of chess understanding we ALL regard you as a chess cheat.
Furthermore you claimed that to you checkers is like looking down a well and chess across the ocean, words you took the credit for but are actually a quote from the all time strongest checkers player Marion Tindsley.
Just like your Marvin Hagler article that coincidently had also been the exact same thoughts of someone from another forum a few years ago.
If you didn't get exposed, you at least had some pretty sticky muck thrown your way but were given plenty of opportunities to explain it. Instead you chose to disappear for a fortnight and now come back and tell us we are tossers and you have nothing to explain.
That may be true, ultimately you don't have to give an account of yourself to anyone on here, but at the same time if you don't we no longer have to believe anything you say.
On an unrelated note congratulations on becoming a father, I hope that is going well for you mate and that your little one is healthy and well.

All I can think is can you imagine how Bilbo would have reacted had it been him who ICB had beaten. It would have been like a Devonshire version of Man On Fire with Bilbo hunting down all those who felt were 'involved' :o

Well ICB & the program I should say.

Re: ICB Where did you learn to play chess mate?
WHere is the fun in cheating though? I just don't see the point. Okay, someone wins a game by using a program. Does that really bring a sense of satisfaction or fulfillment?
It just seems so empty and pointless to me. :-\

I agree. What's the point of cheating? Learning how to play is better in many aspects than winning through cheating.

Re: ICB Where did you learn to play chess mate?
I think it is pretty funny to cheat, but only so you can rub it in peoples faces afterwards and then tell them what you did. In fact, if I knew there was sucha program i'd of prob. did it for a laugh.

that's the idea, playing against a computer is like playing against a cheater. A computer has all the possible moves in less than a second and an average player could even hardly remember 1 position that will give him the advantage.
That's why I'm proud with my wins against my computer.
