That's way too long. Now what? I'm not a huge True Blood fan and the direction of that show looks super cheesy, the preview I saw looked straight out of a scifi channel made for TV movie.
Maybe I'll get some work done around the house.
Read the books?
Or maybe follow the BBC's new blockbuster apdation of the Arthurian legends, "Camelot"?
That second part is a joke by the way, I've not watched it but as a Brit I can confidently say you will be disappointed. It will likey be Dowton Abbey with knights :-\

My wife just started reading Game of Thrones, I have to read that first so that's out. She should be done with it soon and then I can get going. I still have to finish The Name of the Wind and then pick back up in Ben Franklin's autobiography.

Holy fuck, the 5th book is coming out July 12th. For some reason I thought it was farther down the line than that.
I don't think ten episodes a season is going to work for the 2nd or 3rd book. It won't work for the 3rd book, at all, and there has been some talk about two seasons for that one. I mean this was all kind of setting stuff up, like the Fellowship of the Ring, and plus Boromir died both times.

Re: Game of Thrones (spoilers)
I saw an interview with Sean Bean this week where they asked who Jon Snow's dad is really. Apparantly the view from the fans is that he is probably actually the son of Rhaegar and Ned's sister and that Ned claimed him as his own to protect him.
It defo sounds like a probabiltiy to me, so that could be pretty cool.

Sean neither confirmed or denied by the way, although he didnt seem to challenge the idea that he might be...

That is the mega-theory of the whole series. Its very veiled though, at least if you're reading the first time and you don't have any idea about it. I didn't catch it, although I heard about it later and thought it made sense.
I wasn't going to say anything about it. I'm not sure if its a spoiler though since its just a theory.
To be fair though Martin probably hasn't told Bean one way or the other.

They skimped on the battles big time. They're trying to keep the budget down, that's what got Rome cancelled but they're going to have to show some in the future.
Anyway, the fifth book came out today. Its been fucking ages since the last one.

I'm only a quarter of the way through the first book, so I'm waiting for the paperback.

At any rate HBO announced today that season 2 will also be 10 episodes. They said if the get renewed earlier for season 3 they will be able to do 12 episodes max for that one.

Are there any spoilers about books 2-5 in this thread? I've been avoiding it because I want to be surprised.

Aside from Ouma's hints, I don't think there's any spoilers from 2-5....................yet.

Dear God Bilbo ;D I don't think of myself as a heavy handed mod but that's about the most over the top spoiler I've ever seen. It wasn't even totally accurate but it was close enough. For the sake of people like Killer who are reading the book I've just deleted that. Its one of the bigger spoilers in the entire series.

I've deleted a couple of things I said earlier in the thread which were unintentional hints about which characters haven't been killed off. Pretty spoiler free now going forward.

Which spoiler was slightly wrong? The deaths of Catelyn and Robb Stark or the horrendous fate that befells poor Jon Snow?

Alright trucking right along, finished Game of Thrones, and I'm about 150 pages into Clash of Kings. I noticed they took a few chapters from Clash of Kings and put them in the Game of Thrones mini-series. I feel they could have left out those things and instead spent more time on the battles, although I'm sure that would have been a much more expensive way to go.

I'm not bothering with the books. Just watch it on the telly. Less likely to annoy me and I really don't need any more backstory. It's just a great show, don't want to get all anal and geek out over it.

While Martin's writing is so-so and full of strange idiosyncrasies, his storylines in the first three books were outstanding. The series has jumped the shark and is just being dragged out now though.

I have no idea what any of this thread is about, but 'Game of thrones' as a title alone sounds horrendous. I like things with good titles such as 'Blackadder' or 'The Idiot', but 'Game of thrones'? It sounds awful and I refuse to even give any further thought to this. 13 pages on a game of bloody thrones? What is the world coming too? I bet it is American, it just has to be.

Re: Game of Thrones (spoilers)
So far, I've almost finished the first book a second time, took couple of notes as to maje some theories in the meantime, 800 pages ain't that much as it's not difficult to read, if I continue at that pace, I should have the second and third over by the time the series start and probably the 4th one started too. The series is great but the books are just bringing so much details and consistency about the characters. I can see why somebody just wants to enjoy the series though but the temptation has been too strong on my side and I just can't not read the whole thing before the second seasons unfold in April.
