I've been abroad to visit relatives in Ireland and England. Although I may be inclined to make foolish statements at times, which are mostly meant to be humorous in an innocuous way, I judge individuals as I meet them. Character and integrity transcends racial/ethnic identities. One of my closest friends is a British Microbiologist that works at an exclusive research center in England. He's the salt of the earth.

True, he is at that. I just think me and Lyle like to have a go at each other every once in a while. I just think the injuries, probably brought on by complacent coaches that force fed many Russian athletes, has something to do with his injuries. Now, Now, Lyle. I just gave you a compliment...well, sort of, in a previous post. To be honest, here are my thoughts on Bush:
1- I think that he means 'well' with certain policies; No child left behind, but I thought he could have done more with a voucher system, although that's more of state rather than federal issue.
2- His failure to Pardon the border guards that killed a known Mexican drug-trafficker and fellon is yet another blemish on his Office.
3- Sending troops into Iraq has turned into a complete quagmire. Even with the most powerful military apparatus in the world, insurgents are flocking across borders and will continue to do so. Of course, Clinton is partially to blame for this to. But all of this nonsense has happened under Bush's watch. No army on the globe will be able to defeat motivated religious zealots well trained in Guerrilla warfare.
4- Bush has placated to the Mexican Government and has not enforced tight border control. In light of the recent imprisoning of two agents, it's logical to infer that agents will become more circumspect when dealing with criminals invading a sovereign country. But in light of the Iraq invasion, which was a sovereign country, I don't think he knows the difference between North and South.
5- The Clinton initiative for Universal Health Care proposed in the early 90's was squashed by lobbyists representing big business and spun with scare tactics by the G.O.P.
6- I'm not saying that Universal Health Care is without it's flaws, many of which can be tweaked. The Canadian model has many problems, as does the U.K., France, Germany and all of the EU Countries. But it's a helluva lot better to get the frail of mind and spirit amongst us help. Get them off the streets. Give them the opportunity to get healthy and pursue the American dream.
7- When an old woman/man have to fractional their meds because Medicare won't cover them that has to strike a chord in you. Would you want your Mom, god forbid, to be in that type of situation?
Yes, I love reading Howard Zinn; 'A power governments can't suppress' is a masterful read. I highly recommend it. But I also enjoy Newt's books on the Civil War and respect his brilliant mind. I'm an independent and have voted for both Democrats and Republican candidates. As a matter of fact, when I was a undergraduate, I campaigned for a local district assemblymen who was running on a Republican ticket.
Pat Buchanan, although a bit of an off-the-wall Maverick at times, has made very salient arguments to close the borders. On the other hand, I've worked with Mexicans, South Americans, etc. for a long time while working my way through school. These people have an OUTSTANDING work ethic that many natives of this country is lost on. A rigorous guest-worker program is the solution.
I find it unfortunate that you attack the frail amongst us and don't shout to the heavens over the C.E.O.'s that are raping the shareholders with outlandish bonuses and various 'amenities'.
Read the Weekly Standard, The Nation, The National Review: you will walk away with a perspective from both sides of the isle and in between. ;) Check it out, Lyle. It will make you re-evaluate your ideas and flex the brain a bit, which is always a good thing. Then we can really trade some good ideas. ;)
