Yep, I totally get where you are coming from. But I see Manny as a JWW now, going up another division should be just that, which is the full seven pounds. Marquez going up practically two divisions in one fell swoop deserves more scrutiny really, because that is Mayweather being way too cynical.
Expecting a fighter to go up one weight class and to do it properly isn't too much to ask IMO. Both fighters are chasing the money here and both think a weight gain or deficit is the way to go about it. And let's not forget that Manny has already fought DLH above 140 pounds, it's not as if it is a whole new thing for him.
yup, manny was 142 at weigh-in for dela hoya and 139 last time out, both the heaviest he's been at.

cotto wanted it at 145 while pac wanted it at 143. pac gave in to cotto's demand, so that seems to be the end of it. :rolleyes:

He weighed 148lbs the night of the DLH fight.. There is quite a blurry line for weigh in/ fight night weight. You can be technical about it and granted thats the rules but we know the majority of fighters gain a significant amount of weight fight night.

as much as i'd like this fight to be at the 147lb limit, everyone would agree that these two belong in 2 different weight classes. pac at fightnight has been known to weigh up to 148 and cotto as high as 160lbs. both want the fight because there's big money in it and as long as a belt isn't on the line and any of fighter isn't placed at too much of a disadvantage by the weight loss or gain, there shouldn't really be any objection to a catchweight. it's not as if it hasn't been done before. hopkins whoop pavlik at a catchweight. cotto's nutritionist did state that the lowest miguel can go is 144lbs. so he shouldn't have any problem with 145. just 3 years ago cotto was 138 for the malignaggi fight while pac the same year was 129. i just don't get why manny would get the flack by asking for a catchweight. again i ask, would you give cotto full credit if he beat pac at 147? 145 would somehow even the playing field and a victory for cotto would be more sweet.

145 is fair for the both of them besides it wouldnt be exciting if they fought at 143 or 147. one thing i notice though is that more people are for pac now than before. while pac haters are pretty much the same batch of people.

It's a pointless fight right now, apart from the money that everyone will make from it. That is the only reason I can see that the fight has been made at all. It has nothing to do with who is best. Who cares what they fought at 3 years, that's like comparing how they weighed when they born.
Pac wins = Cotto was weight drained.
Cotto wins = Pac was too small/Cotto was too big.
All this catchweight stuff is just nonsence. In the past you moved up the weight and fought for the guys title. Did Duran start pussying about asking for catchweights? No. All this stuff is making boxing faggy.
It taints the fight for both guys.

most the cases on that list were basically shot fighters such as, Vargas, Trinidad, Jones, Maske, Hill, and Taylor.
or the weight drastically favored one fighter such as, Castillo/Corrales II, Norris/Taylor, Leonard/Lalonde, and Trinidad/Jones Jr.
so basically proves that more times than not, catchweights are pointless, hell even the way that DLH/Hopkins ended makes it valid that it was a pointless catchweight fight

I was just informing my fellow saddo friends that catchweights are not a modern phenomenon. ;)
Also Cotto is not THE MAN at welterweight. He holds a worthless alphabet title. So even if Pac beat him at 147 it wouldn't make him the TRUE welterweight champ (there's something to beat Pac with ;)).
