By the way, Shane is one of my favorite fighters, and I hate seeing this happen, just being realistic, I can't see Mosley going the distance. :pacman:
Thoughts?
You know Margarito was really strong and had the stamina to last but didn't have the speed to catch Manny consistently. Mosley has the quickness to catch Manny consistently, the only doubt I have is can he pull the trigger and does he have the stamina in that 39 year old body?
I know it's the hype but from all the coverage on Manny, I believe he has prepared to go to war. I think like the date the 7th is when it happens.
Out of all of Pacquiao's recent performances, the one over Margarito might have been the most impressive, Margarito looked huge compared to Manny, and for the most part Pacquiao totally dominated him.
In re: Mosley, if he wasn't 39 (ancient for his weight class) and I hadn't seen his last 2 fights, I might think he's got decent chance of winning. Like a couple people have already said on this thread, Shane might make it interesting for a few rounds, but it won't be long before Pacquiao gets in his usual rhythm and starts to pummel Mosley, with little effective punching coming back in return.
Let's not forget that Pacquiao is the #1 P4P fighter in the world, at the apex of his game, and on a roll right now. Like I said in the OP, the only real question is not if Manny wins, but whether or not he can stop Shane, I think he does before the 9th round, unless Pacquiao has mercy on him, like he did Margarito.

Nice post. I've seen Shane's last two fights too and if Floyd can frsutrate Shane with his speed? What the hell is Manny going to do with him with comparable speed throwing three times as often? Plus in the Floyd fight, Shane's balance still seemed ok, in his last fight Shane was, at times, stumbling around like a drunk.

People put way too much stock in the size of Pacquiao's opponents and how it would change the outcome, the Margarito fight wasn't at all his most impressive recently. His most impressive would probably be the Cotto performance, because even though it was predicted he'd win he dominated and stopped Cotto. Cotto at least had moderate boxing skill and power. Margarito was all size and nothing left and a shell of the man that Shane Mosley decimated. I don't think Pacquiao's performances should be looked at as impressive because he dominates a bigger opponent. Michael Moorer used to knock out heavyweights that were 30-40 pounds heavier than him but his most impressive win was Holyfield who was the same size. Size shouldn't matter into what makes a performance impressive.
Re: Does Manny stop Shane?
had a dream that mosley landed a career ending ko punch at pac on the latter rounds. hope it doesnt happen!
Re: Does Manny stop Shane?
I hope Shane get KOed early so he won't suffer major damage. He's one of my favorite fighters and I don't want to see him all bloodied up after the fight just like what happened to Margarito and Cotto.
:)
Re: Does Manny stop Shane?
i don't think pacquiao can knock mosley out. if it ends by stoppage it would be the referee stepping in or mosley's corner throwing in the towel. shane though can possibly ko manny within the first 4 rounds, but i'm sure team pac had already prepared for that and would be extra cautious in those early rounds. after 4 rounds, mosley would have slowed down enough to make the fight easy for the pacman for a mid to late round tko.
Re: Does Manny stop Shane?
I hope he does... and quickly, in the hope that Shane doesn't end up damaged like Antonio Margarito...
***** ***** *****
As it turns out, despite Top rank's announcement of Margarito vs Cotto 2, Antonio has struggled to comeback from the orbital socket eye injury he suffered from his last outing.
Quoting Lance Pugmire of LA Times....
"Antonio Margarito, the former world welterweight boxing champion beaten by Manny Pacquiao in November, is struggling to recover from a right eye injury suffered in that bout and will undergo an extensive examination next week that probably will determine whether his career can resume"....
***** ***** *****
On a side note.. Robert Garcia, Margarito's trainer, part of whose responsibility as a trainer is to protect the welfare of his fighter which in this case is Margarito's...
In the write-up, I found the comments attributed to him as quite hypocritical...
...."It's hard to think that he'll have to maybe quit like this when there's still million-dollar paydays out there for him," Garcia said. "I always tell these guys to invest their money when they get it, because that next big fight might never come. This is a big hit. He's a close friend."
I saw him as the person directly responsible for this potentially career ending injury to Margarito's. He could have very well thrown in the towel a few rounds earlier for Tony, but he didn't. For what?
I saw it as Robert Garcia's selfish interest rearing its ugly head.
IMO, He was clearly maximizing exposure and advancing his name to bigtime boxing in needlessly finishing the fight but at the expense of Antonio Margarito's health and welfare.

Re: Does Manny stop Shane?
I think the responsibility is that of the referee at the end of the day. Someone who is meant to be independent and in control of proceedings. It was awful the way Margarito was being asked to count the fingers with his one good eye wide open. Of course he could still count, duh! It was an awful injury and he clearly couldn't see for the majority of the fight. Sometimes fights get stopped too early, but this was quite the opposite and ridiculously so.
Re: Does Manny stop Shane?
Was talking about this bout last night with a mate, I asked him, If you were to place a bet on the result, what would ya go for ? he said similar to me Pacman to stop Shane around the 10-11rd mark via TKO.
I Dont think Manny will knock Shane out, but ref to stop the fight about then, I say rd11.

I really hope Manny didn't get distracted with all that singing, talk shows, being a MP. This is the only reason why he could lose.

This is always a tough thing to get to a clear answer on. The ref's first job is to protect the safety of the fighter (within the context of boxing of course). It may be better said, protecting the life of the fighter. The ref is handicapped to some degree by only having a limited familiarity with each fighter. He simply may not recognize deterioration quickly enough.
The corner should be the first to recognize issues their fighter is having as they know him best. But they often have a conflict of interest or in other cases will not overrule the wishes of a fighter (a terrible abdication of responsibility).
In my view, the corner is really the first line of defense for a battered fighter and they have in some sense failed if the referee is forced to stop a fight.
But as I noted above, this is a very difficult dynamic and question.
