Hatton is world-class because of bombproof solid facts. The Ring magazine is an
American publication. HBO/Showtime are
American companies. The Boxing Writers Association of
America is clearly not a load of bias British journalists (check out the company he is in -
BWAA Awards History)
Hatton was honoured and rated by these because he proved to be a world-class fighter. Simple as.
Collazo? Your personal opinion that he was robbed means nothing. Hatton got the decision in a close fight. It happens every week. Just because the guy you think won didn't, doesn't make it a robbery.
Cotto-Hatton fight? I would probably pick Cotto. But that is irrelevant here.
Hatton victims? What it proves is Hatton was fighting amongst the same pool of fighters Cotto was, with the same success. Cotto beat N'dou. Paulie beat N'dou. Hatton beat Paulie. If N'dou had beat Paulie, Hatton would have fought him. So at the very least Hatton is operating in the same class. Not everyone can fight everyone.
If you personally don't like Hatton, think he's overrated and his resume isn't very impressive that's fine. What you can't do is just ignore/dismiss the fact he was a proven, decorated world-class fighter in his pomp. And "Brit hype" had nothing to do with it ;)
You chose to ignore my second, detailed "go-round" of Cotto's and Hatton's opponents, and concentrated instead on magazine rankings (which we all know can be flawed), and boxing algebra logic. Meanwhile, you've got your
"ballboys" (and I mean that literally, as well as figuratively) keeping score. What up, kids? Gotta hide behind daddy's underpants?
If it was VD in here spouting obscenities and insulting you guys, not a whimper would be heard. But since it's me in here, just expressing my honest opinion, it becomes a feeding frenzy. At least we agree on the results of a Cotto-Hatton fight.
I've got nothing against Hatton. For a while, he was actually pretty good for boxing. It stirred up a nation of boxing fans who, frankly, its world-class champions come few and far between. And that's always good. Anything that stirs up interest in boxing is good with me. I'll say this: I've never seen fans from any other country board airplanes by the hundreds and fly halfway across the world to watch their native son fight. Now THAT'S impressive.
My beef with Hatton was that all the hype got to his head. And IMO, he got what was coming to him when he faced Floyd and Pacquiao. World's p4p my ass. And now... I just feel sorry that's he's come to such depths in his life, and hope he straightens his shit out.
Oh..........
30-40...... game, set, match
;D
I would bite his balls off.

Well, ok... that was a bit graphic.

Tito...
I didn't ignore any part of your post. I've already shown formlines between Hatton and Cotto. It's not about who is better, it's about what makes them "world-class"
Here's what you said earlier -

Yet you now accuse me of using "flawed" magazine rankings? Come on....
It's an unequivocal fact that Hatton was elite at 140 and P4P rated.
For the record -The Ring Magazine's Annual Ratings: Pound For Pound--2000s - Boxrec Boxing Encyclopaedia
Hatton spent FOUR years P4P.
(You've just been stretchered off the court ;))
Re: Hattons Prime - The myth
Reading this thread makes me realize what a good fight Hatton-Cotto would've been for a few years. Real shame that was never even on the table for either guy.
Re: Hattons Prime - The myth
Of course they were both world class. For TitoFan to admit that a fighter who isn't Puerto Rican is on par with one that is the former would need to in fact be much better, I suspect:-X.

Are you accusing me of not being objective? Well...... I never!!
;D
Seriously, tho... I'm not THAT bad. There's worse.
That being said, I still look at Hatton's list of opponents (from Tszyu onward) and Cotto's list dating back to Abdullaev, and I have a hard time saying (even objectively) that they're the same. Cotto's list is better, and it's not even close.
Ok, forget my argument that Hatton wasn't world-class. That struck a nerve, and everyone is pretty unanimous in disagreeing with me. But Cotto is still higher on the all-time list, and would've torn Hatton a new one at 147.
'Nough said.

Hatton-Gatti or Hatton-Ward is what I wanted to see. Total brawls!
I would favour Hatton against the Cotto that fought Paulie at 140. But at 147 Cotto stops him inside 4.

I think it's abit unfair to say he couldnt box, he did show this ability on many occasions, the Magee fight, he was put down for the first time in his career, then went on to out-box the southpaw conclusively, Ben Tackie got shut out, Olivera, Urango.. etc
Hatton Cotto at 140 would have been the fight, but @ 147 different prospect.
I remember when talk was going around the Hatton camp about a Gatti fight, a real shame that didnt materialise, what a barn burner that would of been, a classic for Atlantic City
