As long as Cotto stays there and smothers him after he throws combos he should be relatively safe. If he pulls straight back out like he puzzingly did against Mayweather I see him getting caught right on the end of Canelo's punches. If he tries to outbox/punch him I see the same thing happening except he tires and gets pummeled into submission. Either way it would be an interesting fight.
Cotto doesn't have the chin to hang with Canelo.
There's no doubting Canelo can punch but the only way I see him tagging Cotto consistently is if Cotto chooses to fight him from the outside. It's true what finito is saying, I've seen Cotto get on his bike and when he does he throws stingless combos and his lack of stamina caches up to him even quicker. That would be suicide against Canelo who would end up walking him down against the ropes or worse a corner and start beating the shit out of him. But I've seen strong, robotic guys like Canelo before, they've got power but only at full extension and if you smother them up close they're completely different. I don't see any inside game from Canelo either he just puts on the earmuffs and weathers the storm. Canelo has a beautiful pull back counter right that he throws over jabs but Cotto's jab is more cultured then anything he's seen before, he works behind it beautifully and I don't see Alvarez connecting with that right at full extension especially if Cotto doubles up on it.
Re: Miguel Cotto to return in the fall
I think Cotto vs JMM at 147 is a good options.
If Canelo don't get the Mayweather fight, Cotto is his best option if he defeat Trout. But we do have some 154ers that would give Canelo and Cotto a good fight

Get a grip. There is nothing Alvarez has done to suggest that he beats the shit out of Cotto albeit a weaker version. He has not even fought 1 legitimate jr middleweight unless you consider that fiasco with Rhodes legit. Lets see how he deals with Trout. And people call Broner a hype job.
I cant even comment on the quitting on his knees comment as its so ridiculous.
I'll comment on it for you.
This guy has been pushing this agenda since Day One. Never mind that Cotto has been the ultimate warrior and has ducked no one. Never mind that he was obviously getting hammered by plaster cast wraps. This is the type of fan who could give a shit whether a fighter gets killed in the ring, even by illegal methods. It's obvious he's never stepped on a ring himself. Ignorance personified.
Although Cotto has fought some big names, that doesn't necessarily make him an " Ultimate Warrior " .. lol It's more about how one handles themselves in the heat of battle that defines who they really are..
The first time when i realized that Cotto wasn't a balls to the walls fighter was when he faced Lovmore Ndou in 04.. Ndou really pushed him in the late rounds and surprisingly, Cotto got on his bike and stopped fighting.. Ok, so that was his first test at 140 but the fact is,as soon as he met someone of similiar size, he wasn't so brave anymore..
After, there was a pattern in his fighting style because he kept doing it. Whenever things got heated , he'd continuously get on his bike ( against Mosley and some others i can't remember )...
What about against Zab? When he ate that thunderous uppercut and was on the verge of getting knocked out, what did he do?? He got desperate and resorted to LOW BLOWS which is cheating ( Tito Style ) ..
Cotto is a good boxer but he's certainly not an ultimate warrior like the Pacquiaos and the Marquez.. not even in the same stratosphere..
And u need to stop crying about the Margarito fight cuz there is no evidence of him being wrapped up against Cotto.. That's just the bitterness in you talking, Tito, and u are starting to sound like a sore loser and a bitter ex girlfriend.
Margarito owns Cotto.. Tell me im wrong.
You've already been proven wrong by several good, unbiased posters..... but I'll add some additional facts for you.
"It's more about how one handles themselves in the heat of battle that defines who they really are.."
"After, there was a pattern in his fighting style because he kept doing it. Whenever things got heated , he'd continuously get on his bike"
A couple of your valuable quotes above. Obviously, you never saw the Ricardo Torres fight. Where Cotto gets knocked down severely.... only to get back up and knock the hard-punching Torres out himself in spectacular fashion. Obviously you never saw the Corley fight, where Corley tagged Cotto and put him on the verge of being knocked out.... only to have Cotto survive the onslaught and come back to knock out Corley. Obviously you never saw the Randall Bailey fight, one of many fights that Cotto has had against respected and even feared opponents throughout his whole career. Obviously, you don't know shit about Cotto's career, and are just a hater posing as a real boxing fan. A man, who every knowledgeable boxing acknowledges as a warrior, decides to not take plaster cast punches any longer to save his life, health, and career..... and you berate him for being a quitter. And yet your precious Golden Boy sits in his stool after failing to conquer the little man he had picked out to finish his legacy..... and that goes unmentioned. You and your fellow ignorant haters can just go to hell.
You see.... this is where I lump you in with the likes of Violent Demise. You have several things in common:
1. An unexplainable hate against Puerto Rican fighters.
2. An unexplainable penchant for going down the effeminate path (too much talk about sucking dick, or being like a bitter ex-girlfriend). This reeks of unresolved sexual identity issues, but that's another matter easily handled by a professional.
3. A knack for making ridiculous pronouncements without backing them up.
I'll debate Cotto or any other P.R. fighter with people with boxing knowledge and at least an ounce of unbias and at least some credibility. That alone would leave you and VD out of the equation.

Totally agree. Molina is well overdue and I think he beats Smith. But on mass that may be a hard one to sell. Maybe if Cotto gets Smiths trinket we'll see Molina with him.
Unfortunatly I think Cotto will be stripped to the bone on name and respectively he didn't sound or look like a guy who had a whole lot left in the tank in losing to Trout.

This just shows how much of a Cotto groupie you are. The way you bend the truth and try and pass it off for more than it is, is just sad and pathetic. Cotto did not knock out Corley. That fight was unjustly stopped by the Puerto Rican ref after Corley took a knee without being hit. Corley was still very much in that fight

Yes, it was all a big conspiracy. You blew the cover right off the case.
Corley was ready to knock out Cotto, and the ref jumped in and saved him.
I think you should go public with your findings.
By the way..... nice job of selective quoting.
I guess your limited brain is incapable of digesting a whole post.
