And if Burke wants no part of TO, he'd make it clear. Takes two to tango, my friend. ;)
If it was the Canucks doing it, I would be just as pissed. They got nailed for doing something similar with Pat Quinn at is cost them draft picks, rightfully so. It makes the league look bad though, that's the problem. They're not allowed to pave the way for Burke (which they wouldn't be doing if they didn't have some knowledge of him wanting to come to Toronto) while he is still under contract.
I don't really hate the Leafs (though I don't like them) and I'm pretty sure Amat doesn't either, I'm sure I will go back to despising them when they're a good team again, but most of the time I just feel sorry for their fans. The problem isn't that what they're doing is necessarily wrong, it's that it is clearly against the rules. Here's a link to a story that explains a bit of it and quotes Bettman.
ESPN - Bettman sends warning on tampering, considers outdoor options - NHL
Re: Any other NHL fans on the site?
aahhhh, they're not making the league look like anything. Nobody give as a shit. It's the offseason man. The leafs are my team and I couldn't care less if they make the playoffs or not. I've got bigger shit to worry about. And so should you. ;) :thumb:
Re: Any other NHL fans on the site?
"People who sign contracts can be held to them by the other party to the contract, and there's nothing wrong with that," Bettman said. "If there's tampering going on, ultimately there are no secrets in this world. We will get to the bottom of it. And I'm no fan of tampering. And when it happens, it gets punished severely.
"A team that meddles with an individual under contract could face heavy fines and the loss of draft picks. And an individual who talks to a team while he's still under contract would face fines and a possible suspension."
What a load of horseshit. Honestly. If it pisses off Anaheim so much then they should do something about themselves.
I guess that means that anyone who has a job can't look for a new one. Bettman's such a fukkin goof. 2 officials.
Re: Any other NHL fans on the site?
I hate the San Jose Sharks
I hope the entire city spontaneously combusts.
Fucking Canucks, 0-4-2 in their last 6, looking primed to choke their way out of the playoffs for 2 years in a row.
FUCK!
Re: Any other NHL fans on the site?
That save Luongo made on Boyle on his back might be the best of the year so far, I thought that was the game. So glad we didn't do anything dumb and trade Patty or Joe, Setoguchi and Ryan Clowe have both stepped up BIG this year, especially Clowe as the guy in command of that second line.
Re: Any other NHL fans on the site?
With that said the game was nearly unwatchable for the better part the Sharks seemed like they were still on a cloud from the Detroit game. I still have yet to go to a game this year :(

I've gone to one game in my entire life. Ticket prices and availability for Canucks games are insane. For example, on ebay I saw two people selling pairs of shitty tickets to the Canucks - Habs game. The cheapest ones were just over $400.
The Sharks were clearly hungover from their big win over Detroit. That, combined with the fact that the Canucks trapped the living shit out of the game once they were up a goal (I HATE it when they do that. I remember when they were the most exciting team in the NHL. Sigh.) made for a boring game.
Oh, and once again, fuck the Sharks and the cup they are soon to win.
Re: Any other NHL fans on the site?
At least the Bruins, my second favorite team (along with the Wings), are doing well. I'm sure they'll choke in the playoffs though, I cheer for them. It's a curse.
Re: Any other NHL fans on the site?
No shit only a dozen shots on goal after the first goal. Was a bit like watching the Rangers play.

I hate the Rangers more than I hate any other team not from Alberta.
The Canucks aren't normally that boring, they've played a decently entertaining, hard checking and hard hitting game for most of this year. However, they're in a tailspin right now, have looked God awful defensively lately, and were playing the best team in the league. It's somewhat understandable they came out and played the way they did. It was 40 seconds away from being successful. That being said, I hope I don't have to watch them play this way again until the playoffs.

I still can't believe the Calgary Flames used to be the Atlanta Flames....what a politically incorrect name.
"What can we name the hockey team?"
"Do you remember the time a bunch of Yankees burned Atlanta to the ground?"
"Damn why couldn't I think of that"
The Canes are doing very well

Hanging on to the last playoff spot by one point is doing very well? One of the two teams right behind them has 3 games in hand as well.
I used to really like the Wailers.
Re: Any other NHL fans on the site?
In the NHL it's not how many regular season games you win it's when and if you have a hot goalie in playoffs.

While that is somewhat true (Luongo gave the best goaltending performance I have ever seen two years ago and the Canucks got bounced in the 2nd round), you need to win enough games to make the playoffs. Carolina is in danger of not making the playoffs.
