Utterly crushing. Well played Costa Rica though.
To cheer myself up I just want to say that UK/England -
Most Formula One World Champions out of any nation in history.
Rugby team that has reached 2 of the last 3 world cup finals (and will win the next!).
Cricket team that until recently was number one in the world and won 4 of last 6 Ashes.
3rd in medals table in last Olympics, 4th in the one before that.
Last two Tour de France Winners from Britain.
Current Men's Wimbledon champion.
Not to mention our rowers, track cyclists, sailors etc.
Britain = Jacks of all trades - masters of a fair few.
There we go, that's me banging the patriot drum.
Best of luck to Costa Rica and the USA going forward.
Also to Canada, although I think it's scandalous that not one of there games have been shown on TV yet! ;)
Costa Rica were excellent hope they do not beat us too bad.
Uraquay v Italy looks an exciting match now.
It's bad luck for England but by the next Euros they'll be ready to challenge I am sure (especially if Woy is gone)
Well I think we have shown more promise WITH the ball (87% pass completion vs Italy, 82% vs Uruguay) which is unheard of for our style of play, but we have looked more fragile at the back than in my lifetime. So maybe we sacrificed one for the other. But there is hope going forward. Roy is a good man, plays the media expertly, but to be true winners we need a winner as a manager.
I like the US team, hope they do well. Won the first game not playing well so I think they have a gear or two to go. As long as they have a go and play to potential I'm sure the US fans will accept that.
Not really surprised at going out early. I think Walcott and Oxlade Chamberlain were big misses but ultimately we just weren't quite good enough Hopefully that's the end of Gerrard. There's the makings of a decent team in there with the likes of Ox, Sterling, Barkley.
Ah well. Gonna jump on the US bandwagon now and support this wonderful man

My girlfriend is French, so I will try to muster some enthusiasm for them.
On my 7th beer now, need a fair few more to blot the pain out.
Going forward England have plenty of young talent...I think Sturridge gives you a good solid striker for years to come, Welbeck can grow and develop. You've got great wingers at your disposal Theo, Ox, Sterling. You've got some talent in the attacking midfield with Wilshire, Lallana, and the kids coming up behind them like Ward-Prowse, Jack Cork. I think Goalkeeper and CB are probably your biggest bugaboos other than a competent manager. Luke Shaw and Leighton Baines at LB...not too bad, Flano and Clyne at RB. You've got some highly skilled athletes and I think with Spain suffering a huge setback like they have they might take longer to fix because they are going to lose an entire side due to age and we don't know how they'll handle that. With England I believe there will be an easier transition because you've got a few guys ready to lead after the guys of Gerrard's era retire from international play.
[QUOTE=killersheep;1253271]Yeah he had a...erm...tough season. To be fair he started to look pretty good whenever he played during the last 2-3 months of the season. There's a good player in there somewhere. He's a nice guy too. Is he out for the tournament or just the Portugal game? It looked bad but last I read he was being "monitored".
It's nice that one of these teams showed up.
The problem is getting them to perform on the national stage - we weren't expecting much this world cup but we weren't expecting first two defeats. Once again we've come up short.
Ok Uruguay and Italy weren't particularly better than us on the nights but they took their chances when it mattered. On another night Rooney could have easily scored 4 against Uruguay - and should have had one against Italy. And as for Suarez's second which was straight down the middle.....and why couldn't Gerrard but one of our guys through on goal like that !!
Anyway - maybe someone will now have the balls to take some action back home and realise (what we've all known for years) something HAS t happen re the foreigners in the premier league. A serious lack of home grown talent.
But yes there is potential out there. We just need to fucking do something with it
Robbie Savage sad something earlier in commentary that was spot on "other countries players put on their national shirt and it raises their performance, with English players it has the opposite effect"
I think England's National Team is having the same sort of pains the USA Basketball team had for a while. It's not that your guys don't have talent, it's not that those players can't achieve on the pitch, it's that a team of superstars doesn't always make the best TEAM. I think you guys need a manager who isn't a afraid to leave a few studs off the roster if they don't fit his style. You guys are caught between tiki taka and longball and it's hurting your performances. You need a manager with a set style who chooses players who best fit that style...they might not be the best players, the most athletic, the fastest, the best passers or dribblers or whatever but you need a team that works together and meshes.
France looks kind of shockingly good.
I expected Costa Rica to be surprisingly good, but I didn't think they'd make it out of the group, much less after two games.
Maybe not superstars now. But your point still holds when you think of the England team of circa 2002-2008 featuring Terry, Ferdinand, A Cole, Lampard, Gerrard, Owen, Rooney et al. All peaking together near enough. That team should have done so much more but didn't for the reasons you correctly identified.
The thing is though it's deeper than that. We do produce good players, and circa 2002-2008 produced a whole team of good players, but still didn't do it. So it's about more than producing players. It's true what Lyle says about stuck between two playing styles PLUS the crippling and vindictive judgments waiting for our players from the press and fans clearly weighh heavily on their shoulders. Other nations look like they enjoy the world cup, but we look like we have the weight of the world on our shoulders. Understandably so given our press and our part time fans ready to crucify any mistakes.
England have some nice young players (Sturridge, Sterling, Henderson, a few others who didn't get much playing time), but they really only have one elite player at this point, and he hasn't produced a whole lot for the national team.
I would see what I could do to get Rodgers to take the job, but I dunno why he'd even consider it.
FWIW, I think on paper they were the second best team in the group and should have beaten Uruguay.
All the nations that do well have the creative geniuses that win the games for them. England have always had the mentality that theyd rather lose with a whole team playing together than win with a superstar.
They have wasted some very creative talent.
The world cup is all set up, Argentina will win, just saying',
Hopefully not to hard, lover.
Fair play to you on rugby, I played it all through high school because it's a real man's sport. We'd run practices on a local soccer pitch so we'd have to go tell the soccer playing sissies to take a hike and make way for the real men.
Day fucking 8 and we're out ffs
If we win last game with a cracking performance I'll be fucking angry

I'm quite glad they're not showing any canadian games :S
The only thing that's been a bit disappointing about this World Cup is that the Saturday games have been a bit shit. Argentina-Iran should have been scheduled for 2 AM Sunday Morning. Nigeria-Bosnia's passable at best. Ghana-Germany is the best game on paper, but Germany may just do their thing and end it by halftime.
Hogson is fucking rubbish he fucked up Liverpool, why did they pick him as England manager
he's shit simple maybe he was cheap.
Remember chaps me being Welsh we don't expect to much from our side, to be honest the
players you have underachieved, sham full really very poor.
Sorry a very poor manager, and all them super stars need a kick up the ass.
