Thats pretty interesting considering its not a hate crime if the victim is not a minority. The simple fact that we have "hate-crimes" is laughable. Somehow an assault is a worse crime if there is a racial bias...what a joke.

Half cast might have negative connotations because of history, but you would do just as well to have another word, perhaps 'halfcolour' or the more politically correct 'people of half colour'. Well, that just sounds stupid, just call them half casts and educate society to become more tolerant of ethnic diversity which in many ways the UK is. Certainly much more so than somewhere like Korea.
To be honest, you kinda Barking up the wrong tree... You have to know the origins of the term 'Half-Cast' to understand why it is offensive... Mongrel isn't even that offensive. Just stupid. We are all 'mongrel' in one way or another.
Fuck whatever Missy and Mark are talkin about, the younger generation have the right idea. Ignorance should never be accepted.
So show me the history of the term 'half cast'. It is a term with exactly the same meaning as 'mixed race'. Maybe 100 years later 'mixed race' will be called out as being wrong. Mongrel is crude and revolting as it suggests dog like characteristics. It suggests less than human which 'half cast' never does. In that way half cast is more endearing and in all honesty is not particularly offensive anyway.
The Poet John Agard in talking about his poem Half-Caste
"This imposition of half, half, half on a person's total human complexity implies that some sort of 'purity' has been subverted. A child of mixed race is a tangible, loving expression of human beings from different cultural backgrounds getting together - that should be seen not as something threatening, but as something enriching..."
John Agard
Caste comes from the latin castus meaning pure. Prefixing pure with half automatically gives it a negative as though the person being described is less than pure. The history of the term is very different depending on which country in which it is used and is coined by the imperial conquering culture. In our case as Brits, the Empire. After the subjugation of commonwealth countries it started as a term to describe anyone of mixed race, not necessarily black and white . Your belief that it is "endearing" is perhaps ill-judged as for many it will carry connotations of condescension.

Actually I completely agree with you on this, and with master regarding Stephen Lawrence. I would also see use of the N word as a direct racial attack. But footballers slagging each other off and a caddy slagging of his former employee and friend has no racial subtext imo and to claim so trivialises real racism.
As to the caddy just calling him an asshole if he wasn't racist rather than a black asshole I totally disagree. All insults are preceeded by a personal slur. It's very unnatural to make an insult without it. Try it. Do you call someone a bastard, or fat bastard, ugly bastard, ginger bastard, whiny bastard etc? There is always a descriptive that prefaces the swear word, always. It's always the thing that stands out to most define that person as well. For Tiger its being black.
It is precisely because you think Tiger Woods (womanising Hypocrite that he is) being black, is his most defining characteristic and that you then throw black into the same territory as fat, ugly and ginger that you fail to see the inherent racism in calling someone a black asshole. White fat bastard, White ugly bastard, both racist,Ginger Bastard not racist but more offensive than bastard.

Yes you are again displaying prejudice against the English by inserting English in-between whiny and the four letter c word. The construction of your sentence implies that the English are whiny and the plural version of the four letter c word. It is not a descriptor, a descriptor is a term used in Libraries,Website design in fact anywhere a database needs a way to index information for easy future retrieval. It was coined by Calvin Northrup Mooers the American computer scientist in 1948.

How many other elite level golfers are black? Being black IS Tiger Woods most defining characteristic in relation to other golfers. If he was a basketball player or boxer it wouldn't be, but his colour is what stands out in the golfing world and in my opinion its a weird reverse positive racism that people like you try to adopt, pretending everyone is the same colour.

Trudat....as a black man once said.
Re: Anyone else bored of 'racism' yet?
Tiger Woods most defining characteristic in relation to other golfers is that he's one of the greatest ever players.
Child prodigy, unbeliveable amateur, 14 majors, over 100 tournament wins, successfully represented America am/pro.
It's not being black that makes him stand out. It's being an utter golfing genius. (well, was).
Re: Anyone else bored of 'racism' yet?
The caddy is Australian....he obviously doesn't know better, they still think blackface is a laugh riot :vd:
