I do believe that the relationship between trainer and fighter is usually a very close one, and if Kovalev hated blacks as much as people seem to believe, I question why he wouldn't just get another trainer? There are a ton of amazing non-black trainers out there who would love to work with a champion and possible world beater like Kovalev: trainers with much deeper resumes than JDJ.
Yet people called Hopkins racist while he was trained by a white guy.

It appears his only child is the one that was born just last year in October and just over 6 months old. The body for the shirt appears to an old rocky poster (by the design of the belt and the velcro on the parring gloves) maybe which would make the monkey white. That's probably something the kid chose to wear when he was going to meet kovalev or to an event where he would meet boxers..
Thanks for adding some actual facts and perspective to something I honestly think is blown out of proportion. The body is clearly Stallone, initially I thought it was Adonis with chimpanzee head added. I get it was an 'ignorant' throw away statement by a guy who hardly speaks the language from a completely different culture and who is in the business of knocking people unconscious. We are quickly becoming a limp dick PC society where no words need be spoken to write a man completely off and for us to proclaim to know his soul.

Where was this level of skepticism when Hopkins and Floyd were called racists???
Kovalev has made blatantly racist statements before.

Most who called Hopkins a racist after "I never lost to a white boy" didn't like him to begin with. The consultation and what Hopkins said to Pavlik after that fight was all you needed to see to know what he thought.

Like ? I may have missed those. Calling him a piece of shit seemed more insulting to me, if I were Adonis.

Racism has a very specific definition: it's a term used to describe somebody who has true feelings of prejudice against a certain race.
True racism is ugly, intentional and malicious. It's a guy like Donald Sterling, who refused to rent apartments to black people. It's the employer who doesn't hire the black guy because he feels the white guy would be more reliable. It's the moron who yells racial slurs at a black person in public, or one of those football hooligans who throws bananas at the black players. These people are true racist scum who should be shunned. Like I said, "racist" is a serious title to give somebody, and when you throw it around as easily as people tend to now a days it cheapens the word.
Do I think some guy going for a silly "gorilla" joke, blissfully unaware of the racial context of the insult, should be lumped in with the people I mentioned above? Of course not. None of us know if Kovalev is a racist,
so why throw the word around?
It's probably thrown around because the word itself has been diluted till words of ignorance can be equated to actions of hate. A person wearing a t-shirt with a negative image but does no actions to validate the meaning of the shirt--- is now a person just as guilty of someone who wont wear such a thing; but does actions that validate hatred in the name of one race over another.
This is 7 pages of a brainfart moment.

Ya see now that's important. You don't know a man in an instant but in patterns and behavior. So what are these demonstrated by Kovalev and what is his history?

He has a history of referring to Black people as niggers and monkeys.

Yeah, and Adrien Broner got in trouble for the Mexican comment. Race is always going to be a touchy subject and you're bound to offend whenever you say something racial. I think people need to lighten up.
Re: Not a good look for Kovalev
Kov needs to be made aware of his actions and the consequences of having those ignorant beliefs.

I never understood the Broner dust up honestly. If anything he was guilty of being an asshole there. I think it was the way he said it in that location, the crowd, wbc etc. "I just fucked UP a Mexican". Mexican by itself...who cares. But he went dumb with it.
Re: Not a good look for Kovalev
Maybe I am giving the guy to much leeway as I love watching him fight but I can't believe that Kovalev is racist in any meaningful way. I just don't see an actual racist with white supremacist beliefs allowing himself to be trained by a black trainer. Is he racist in the sense that he'll make racist remarks and has some prejudices, probably, most people are. Is he racist in the sense that he believes black people are subhumans and should be slaves, doubt it. Shitty thing to do but who the f knows I'm not in the dude's head...Also in another sport this might be a huge deal but in boxing we routinely root for less than savory characters..

Basically he needs to "Americanize" himself for lack of a better word and understand everything he does and says is under scrutiny in a Country with a shameful history in regards to race. Educate himself and adapt to his surroundings. The cultural and societal teachings, experiences and languages are worlds apart between many countries. Hell even states in the U.S. Where I live many many locals refer to themselves as "Coonass". Say that outside of the state and next thing you know you are in the Klan or some shit. Its no excuse for being a dummy, but I really do not believe those mentioned, Broner, or a Hopkins or a Kovalev are racist. At least not the racism and true hate I've seen.
