Re: Groves v Smith to be held in Saudi Arabia
Hold my hands up... didn't think Smith had that in him but he used his 6 inch reach advantage to perfection... Groves just like against Froch had stamina probs for me. Great finish great stoppage kudos Smith. š
Re: Groves v Smith to be held in Saudi Arabia
Callum Smith looked very reassured in their. Itāll be interesting to see who he fights now. Probably a defence followed by getting someone from the other side of the pond to Anfield bext summer.
As for Groves, whatever he decides, I hope he stays happy. Heās given me a lot of pleasure over the years and has been a very skilful fighter. The only regret is that he didnāt get what he deserved in the 1st Froch fight.
Re: Groves v Smith to be held in Saudi Arabia
I said on here many years ago that Callum Smith would be a 2 weight World Champion. As time went on, he stagnated a touch and I began to have my doubts.
But I have to say, LHW at World level is a stacked division at the moment, and if he can keep making weight, stay at SMW for now .
Re: Groves v Smith to be held in Saudi Arabia
Looked at the first round only one winner Smith and I was correct money were my mouth was Ā£10 to win by KO Ā£60 return.š

I tried frantically to find a stream for this one and just couldnāt. What did Groves deserve in the first Froch fight, though? Itās not like he was stopped in the dying seconds of it, he was done and there was plenty of time left. Froch was a terrific finisher as much as anything else, that fight being seen as controversial is about as ridiculous as anything in boxing in recent years, especially with hindsight.

This could go on and on, but.....
1. Groves was fighting back at the time of the stoppage.
2.Froch was just as fucked as Groves.
3. Considering Froch had only won one fucking round, Groves deserved to be given a bit more time.
4. Why wasnāt the fight stopped in the 6th, when Groves fucking battered him?
Fucking hell, amazing that after a certain amount of time , people can twist what actually happened.
Re: Groves v Smith to be held in Saudi Arabia
That was a really impressive performance from Smith. That body shot was brutal.
Re: Groves v Smith to be held in Saudi Arabia
Maybe smith Wil gain vengeance on Mexico for two of his brothers getting beaten up... not sure though gilberto Ramirez seems to be good bit always on the outside of big big fightsm

I really do understand most of what youāre saying. If the fight had been waved off in favor of Groves it wouldnāt have been controversial on several occasions prior. When it was called off though, was entirely appropriate. What if it was allowed to continue another 30 seconds and Groves was never the same guy? Ffs maybe he wasnāt anyways, based on everything weāve seen prior, including last night.
Re: Groves v Smith to be held in Saudi Arabia
I just watched it on youtube , nice performance from Smith Groves struggled all night with Smiths size .

If it continued another 30 seconds , he may have plugged Froch , who I repeat was just as fucked. I agree that Froch took something out of Groves, but I think that is mainly down to the KO in the 2nd fight.
Mentally that took a lot away from Groves , and we know how much stock Groves put into the psychological side of things.
I also think that The Gutneckht tragedy ate away at Groves as well, Infact heās almost said as much. Itās a massive burden to carry and should Groves retire like I think he might, I reckon he may even feel a sense of relief as well.
Groves is a hero in my book and while Iām gutted it didnāt go a bit better at the end, he has been an absolute fucking gent and I just wish he couldāve took that extra step.
He owes nobody a thing , heās given us some amazing memories.
Re: Groves v Smith to be held in Saudi Arabia
I think Groves still has a big fight or two left in him and certainly would like to see him take on DeGale after he has rested and recuperated.

I in no way agree Froch was ājust as fuckedā at the time, he certainly had been close to it but caught another wind. Otherwise fair enough. To be my usual miserable self though, there are no heroās in my book, and Groves hasnāt given me any memories at all :p

Each to their own. Groves was the main reason they sold out Wembley , even Froch acknowledges that. In the 1st fight , he did a āRocky/Dragoā . Nobody gave him a chance.Everyone thought he was arrogant, mocked and ridiculed him, then when he backed up every single word he had said, during the course of the fight they turned and loved him and cheered him when he was ROBBED!
Before this he fought one of the best quality British title fights for years against DeGale. Again he was the underdog against the golden boy.
He absolutely Schooled Eubank Jr. For which I will always be eternally grateful and so should the rest of Boxing.
And the way he talks about Eddie Gutneckht with feeling, honesty and humility makes him out as a real Gentleman in my book.
So yeah, heās given me some pretty good memories. They donāt always have to the GOAT contenders to feel a connection.
