As for Groves, whatever he decides, I hope he stays happy. He’s given me a lot of pleasure over the years and has been a very skilful fighter. The only regret is that he didn’t get what he deserved in the 1st Froch fight.
I tried frantically to find a stream for this one and just couldn’t. What did Groves deserve in the first Froch fight, though? It’s not like he was stopped in the dying seconds of it, he was done and there was plenty of time left. Froch was a terrific finisher as much as anything else, that fight being seen as controversial is about as ridiculous as anything in boxing in recent years, especially with hindsight.
This could go on and on, but.....
    1. Groves was fighting back at the time of the stoppage.
2.Froch was just as fucked as Groves.
    3. Considering Froch had only won one fucking round, Groves deserved to be given a bit more time.
    4. Why wasn’t the fight stopped in the 6th, when Groves fucking battered him?
Fucking hell, amazing that after a certain amount of time , people can twist what actually happened.
I really do understand most of what you’re saying. If the fight had been waved off in favor of Groves it wouldn’t have been controversial on several occasions prior. When it was called off though, was entirely appropriate. What if it was allowed to continue another 30 seconds and Groves was never the same guy? Ffs maybe he wasn’t anyways, based on everything we’ve seen prior, including last night.
If it continued another 30 seconds , he may have plugged Froch , who I repeat was just as fucked. I agree that Froch took something out of Groves, but I think that is mainly down to the KO in the 2nd fight.
Mentally that took a lot away from Groves , and we know how much stock Groves put into the psychological side of things.
I also think that The Gutneckht tragedy ate away at Groves as well, Infact he’s almost said as much. It’s a massive burden to carry and should Groves retire like I think he might, I reckon he may even feel a sense of relief as well.
Groves is a hero in my book and while I’m gutted it didn’t go a bit better at the end, he has been an absolute fucking gent and I just wish he could’ve took that extra step.
He owes nobody a thing , he’s given us some amazing memories.

I think Groves still has a big fight or two left in him and certainly would like to see him take on DeGale after he has rested and recuperated.

What would that do for him other than line his pockets? His pockets should be good. I say rest, recover, then pick the weakest champion and use the UK fans to lure a fight. Win a belt and retire a champion.(granted the champions are of similar quality right now but by the time he has recouperated a good matchup might have emerged)

Retirement with a belt may be meaningless to fans if you pick the weakest champion but to a fighter it matters.

I in no way agree Froch was “just as fucked” at the time, he certainly had been close to it but caught another wind. Otherwise fair enough. To be my usual miserable self though, there are no hero’s in my book, and Groves hasn’t given me any memories at all

Each to their own. Groves was the main reason they sold out Wembley , even Froch acknowledges that. In the 1st fight , he did a “Rocky/Drago” . Nobody gave him a chance.Everyone thought he was arrogant, mocked and ridiculed him, then when he backed up every single word he had said, during the course of the fight they turned and loved him and cheered him when he was ROBBED!
Before this he fought one of the best quality British title fights for years against DeGale. Again he was the underdog against the golden boy.
He absolutely Schooled Eubank Jr. For which I will always be eternally grateful and so should the rest of Boxing.
And the way he talks about Eddie Gutneckht with feeling, honesty and humility makes him out as a real Gentleman in my book.
So yeah, he’s given me some pretty good memories. They don’t always have to the GOAT contenders to feel a connection.

I precursed it with being miserable for good reason, but nationality also plays a big role. I wasn’t there, and so had no emotional investment, you know? There’s never been a good boxer born within 100 miles of me. If there was, I might inherently get behind them or follow something they do out of the ring. I don’t know or care why people dislike Eubank jr so much, I’m sure he’s a clown, but that’s kind of the default for a man.

I saw the miserable bit , so I wasn’t really having a pop, just ranting on about how I felt.
The Eubank thing isn’t so much about him, it just amazes me how much influence hype has. It’s almost like people make their opinions on fighters on what they read rather than what they see.
I can’t understand why anybody who watches with their own eyes can’t see his limitations and so it’s almost like justice when a fighter like that does get beat by a technically good Boxer.

I know you weren’t lol, although it’s welcomed. That’s kind of what I meant with regards to the hype, I’ve just never been exposed to it, for pretty well any fighter save a few. I’m not sure how anyone could’ve ever watched Jr and thought he’s technically good. He’s very athletic and tough, so has enough to overwhelm guys who can’t fight for shit, but beyond that, he only has/had a chance being younger and stronger than anyone he fought.
