Re: American confederate flag
The point was made. you just decided to start of with...
You lost me there...
You responded with the Jesse post. I baited my hook because u haven't responded to any of my other posts here. My oft repeated statement here was..how the confederate flag discussion is being used to quiet down the American discussion of how so many claim racism don't exist. Then when it does...well that was just one person.
This isn't my first post on this thread.... so the fact that you responded to my claims or assertions 7 pages later... are very telling in what you will engage and or disengage in.
7 pages later, the Jesse thread u responded to. But it wasn't an out...
Ok, well when you weren't lost...

You seem to think I have thoughts in my mind that I don't. I asked for your opinion on the flag then I thanked or in not so many words. I never said racism doesn't exist. My wife is non Caucasian and I hear little snide remarks from time to time, I must stress not that often but it happens. My main point with this thread, going back to the beginning, was that I thought the state's should decide if they want the flag or not. I can't remember what was posted seven pages back, Jackson is kind of cool it's Sharpton that drives me nuts. I don't know if at this point you are calling me a racist, we all have our prejudice but I like to think I interact with equal respect to all my brethren, you are free to think other.
Re: American confederate flag
hahaaaahaa.....No need to give your resume. Does this mean I can't privately p.m. you and say you are a cool mofo? Even if you are a dang tootin' conservative! I won't tell Sharpton if you don't tell Limbaugh!?;D

You my friend can PM me anytime. I do like rush Limbaugh, but partly because I find him funny. I'm a registered independent but lean conservative. The threads seem to be going all over the place lately. It's fine but I work fourty hours in three days and I think my brain is mush.

For the Hindus and Buddhists in India and other Asian countries, the swastika was an important symbol for many thousands of years and, to this day, the symbol can still be seen in abundance - on temples, buses, taxis, and on the cover of books. It was also used in Ancient Greece and can be found in the remains of the ancient city of Troy, which existed 4,000 years ago. The ancient Druids and the Celts also used the symbol, reflected in many artifacts that have been discovered. It was used by Nordic tribes and even early Christians used the Swastika as one of their symbols, including the Teutonic Knights, a German medieval military order, which became a purely religious Catholic Order.
Even with that history, you dont see neighbourhoods at least in the Western world dawning that symbol outside of the nutbar skinheads and white supremacists.
Oddly, it was a Christian church in his home town where Hitler first saw the symbol which would come to be called the swastika. It is still there today.
The Swastika is sometimes seen throughout Asian countries, I've seen it here often enough, and and is typically associated with Buddhism. It can can have peaceful meanings that go far beyond the over played Nazi card. If flipped suggest something different, but most are too ignorant to even realise which way it should go round and would likely start spitting something about 'evil' and 'ovens' and how disrespectful it all is. 'Look in the mirror, my rotund friend, and let's talk about respect' says the monk in a moment of non serenity. And he is not politically correct either! Holy cow, call CNN! As I say, a flag is just a flag. It's meaning is whatever the propaganda and yourself allow it to have. The rest should be up to you.

They dont parade it. That confederate flag represents the same thing as the Nazi flag minus the ovens.
Re: American confederate flag
No doubt the flag has negative connotations. George Wallace brought back into style in his state. I guess my take is very much influenced by me being a civil war buff. War wise, Robert E Lee was a brilliant tactician.. Stone wall Jackson, another great mind. When I see the flag I don't relate it at all to slavery or opression, again, that's just my take. The southern hicks I know who have the battle flag on their car do it to show their rebel anti government spirit. Still, perhaps flying it over a state capital is not appropriate. I encourage anyone able to visit the Gettysburg national park. It's an absolutely amazing place.
Re: American confederate flag
Rebel: a person who rises in opposition or armed resistance against an established government or ruler.
But also
(of a person) resist authority, control, or convention.
show or feel repugnance for or resistance to something
So by definition the "Rebel Flag" as it were, could be seen as anti-establishment, counter culture, etc. which was the case when Billy Idol was rocking it.

The Dukes of Hazzard, they were anti-establishment/anti-Boss Hog and corrupt Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane......but nah we can't have that see...we must comply
....that was in the 70's and 80's where people were using that flag as a political statement to be against the status quo.

Alright then my first question would be "Why then don't blacks feel the same way about the American flag, British flag, Dutch flag, Spanish flag, Portuguese flag, Brazilian flag, etc?" seeing how those flags were on the slave ships and NOT any form of the Confederate flag.
You opinion differs greatly from the opinions of THESE folks

....now the tricky thing with "feelings" and "emotions" is that we all have them, but which ones matter more because right now we're at a crossroads and 1 group is saying "that's a hateful flag, it always has been and it always will be" and we have another group that feels differently.....who is right? Are you right because your feelings are hurt by the flag? Are those people in the video right because of their views? I've got my views and that is the flag doesn't belong at the South Carolina state capitol because of why is was put there, HOWEVER, the flag itself should be flown/shown at memorials, Battlefields, at markers for Confederate dead (as the widows and orphans of the Confederacy started what we now call Memorial Day), and privately by whoever so chooses to fly the flag.
I choose liberty over censorship every single time
Re: American confederate flag
I only watched the middle one but it was quite good. They put better that which I've been attempting to say.

If you can't understand why that flag is offensive to blacks and it's time to relegate it to museums I'm not going to waste my time talking to you.
I couldn't understand why it was allowed to fly when I was 15. Are you really saying that you never wondered about the wrongness of it?
Well it's awful nice that you decided to be so condescending in your response. I know that it's a key factor in civil discourse to be as condescending as possible to get your point across because that's the only way to truly get a point across. I mean I'm not to be trusted to THINK for myself....I must be beaten into submission via a condescending tone. And to do it without answering any question I ask, nor saying "You know, I never thought of that" you're simply saying the world in general will be better off without the Battle Flag of Northern Virginia....fine, fine......say we do that, say we do exactly as you have said, my question would then be....
What next?
What will be the next "symbol of racism"? What will we blame the next shooting on? What will we blame the next ugly racist moment on?
Will the American flag be next? Or will 'Gone With The Wind' be next? Will Southern states have to change their flags as the overwhelming majority of them take from the original Flag of the Confederate States? Should states change their names? Should statues and monuments to Confederate generals be taken down? Streets be renamed? Should we even teach about the "Civil War"....I've forgotten more about that war than children are taught these days.
There WILL have to be something to take the place of the Battle flag, because I know progressive liberals and they do not retreat once they have their way, they keep marching forward until everyone learns to comply.
