Re: Wlad-Fury - Plus Rod Stewart. 10pm. Saturday/SKY PPV. Fact.
OOoooh! Two headbutts in round 11! One crafty one and then one full frontal butt with Tony Weeks having a perfect view and as I write he's currently taking a point from Fury. What a shocking display of cheating and bad sportsmanship by the Russian peasant! He's getting exposed and he's too scared to throw a punch but he'll cheat and use his head instead. He's losing and he's showing what he's really made of. I can't wait to watch the last round and see who win this.
-
Re: Wlad-Fury - Plus Rod Stewart. 10pm. Saturday/SKY PPV. Fact.
Congrats to Fury and his team. He used his height picked his spots and had Wlad in trouble towards the end. I'm not going to harp on Weeks taking that point but it was a bit much, especially after Wlad did that headbutt charge. Wasn't a dominating performance but I had Fury winning pretty easily with a lot of close rounds. If Wlad had more balls it may have been closer. Wlad is done IMO he needs to ride off into the sunset. Now hopefully the HW division gets some excitement.
-
Didn't think Fury had a chance, which wasn't an unreasonable view to have.
Although last Friday I was impressed by Furys in his head to head discussion with Wlad.
Began to root for him then.
Wlad appeared not to be fighting with full confidence from round 1. Odd behaviour for a long time champion.
The only downside now is that Fury will never shut up. :)
Props to Ross for flying the Fury flag .

Oh no, you have it all wrong. Now that Wald is out of the way, unless there is a rematch, I see heavyweight boxing taking off like a rocket! There are going to be big fights everywhere we look, I'm not sure we will be able to schedule them all. It's going to be glorious. Happy days are here again. I can't wait for the wheels to start rolling. I can hear it now clickety-clack, clickety-clack, clickety-clack and a big fight at every stop, now that Wlad is out of the way! ;D Hot damn and diggity dog!

Do not get me wrong Wald was boring there is no way around it but is Fury going to be show stopper i think not really. I mean look at the fight it was boring as shit only this time Wald lost the fight i mean if we are going to give up a champ that consistent then i want a Tyson or a Holyfeild back.

I think Tyson Fury will get better. No one will look good against Wlad unless they spark him out and he is too good for that.

Wlad is too cautious to get sparked

Actually think Fury could have knocked him out in the 11th but Tony Weeks stepped in to take a point. Just prior to that Fury had levelled him two of three times and Klitschko looked wobbly. Was waiting for the bullshit points deduction as well.
Fair play to him anyway I'm made up for him. Not sure how long he will last as champion given he's unlikely to face anyone as gunshy as Wlad again (except the rematch).
As for Wlad, this is exactly why I always questioned him being in people's p4p rankings. Turns out, assuming everyone is the same size and weight, Wlad is a little bit worse than Tyson Fury. And that's quite funny.

Sure as hell you'll have someone come in here and say "Oh yeah? Well... how about the 10 years of dominance?"

That is what I meant, wlad has his style of survival which is holding and mauling which he has perfected to an art. You can tell wlad is fragile and has confidence issues because poor fighters he faces he takes too long to stop them and anyone remotely dangerous he hugs and leans on them.

Are you actually saying those 10 years mean nothing!? You really like to get on those Ali haters, you should take a look at yourself! You're a Wald hater, dude. You have let your hate take over your brain!
All that resentment, frustration, and envy that has been building for 10 years against Wald finally exploded and infected your brain with hate! Yes, I can see how it happened, when Tyson beat Wald the dam broke and all that hate washed out. You're a hater now and I don't know if you can be saved!
As much as I dislike Ali, I have never tried to say what he did in the ring was not legit. Not only do you dislike Wald's fighting style, you are also saying his whole career stinks. Oh yeah, you are a serious Wlad hater! Shame on you!

"Envy" is the only thing I would strike from the record.
Other than that..... guilty as charged.
But there's differences between what you feel about Ali, and what I feel about Wlad.
I like the person, but hate the fighter.
You hate the person, and.... meh.... the fighter.

Re: Wlad-Fury - Plus Rod Stewart. 10pm. Saturday/SKY PPV. Fact.
It is not easy being champ for 10 years so i am not going to say Wald crap because he lost at 39 it would not make much sense. Hell he could pull off a rematch not like that fight was a barn burner and Fury does not have shit ton power who knows. Anyhow i never would think of saying a guy who was champ for 10 years lose at 39 and then he was not shit kinda stupid I mean there have been a shit ton of champs to lose to guys they should not lose to when they are near to 40 years of age. I would know because i am Holyfeild fan and he lost to guys that were not even in his class when he was ancient.
-
Re: Wlad-Fury - Plus Rod Stewart. 10pm. Saturday/SKY PPV. Fact.
Sick and tired of hearing about the damn 10 years, as if a number alone can define what the reign was really about. Fact is... his style has always been safety first, safety second, safety third. Protect that chin at all costs, quality of the fight be damned. Although you can poke holes in the opponents of every HW champ if you really want to, fact is Wlad's opponents were a procession of has-beens and never-will-be's. On the rare occasion someone did present a real danger to Wlad, and fans got all pumped up at the prospect of a heavyweight fight like in the old days..... Wlad proceeded to foul things up by precisely that.... fouling his way to a survival...er... I mean... victory. Many people might not say it, out of grudging respect for the 10 years. But the fact of the matter is most fans are ecstatic Wlad's finally gone.
-
Re: Wlad-Fury - Plus Rod Stewart. 10pm. Saturday/SKY PPV. Fact.
I have not really cared who has been hw champ since Holyfeild called it a day but being champ for that long with guys over 230 plus trying to knock you out is not a easy task. I mean look who Tyson lost to and look who Lewis lost to people who were not even close to them in talent but a guy throwing punches who weighs over 230 is a different animal not mention Wald 39 a lot fighters lose at that age. I know you do not like the guy and thats fine but it is not easy task to be champ that long for anyone and it is even harder in hw because a punch can end it a lot easier then in other weightclasses.
-
Re: Wlad-Fury - Plus Rod Stewart. 10pm. Saturday/SKY PPV. Fact.
I'm not saying that lasting that long (10 years) was not a feat in itself. Anybody can come out of the woodwork and beat a champ on any given day... and HW punches are more prone to cause 1-punch knockouts in general than in other weight classes. But what you say can easily apply to anybody who holds the HW title. It doesn't have to be a dull, boring, torturous affair. Lewis and Tyson, guys you mentioned, were very successful at the top, and dominant in their own time. Yet people enjoyed watching them fight. Why? Because although they paid attention to defense in their own way, they were also quite a bit into offensive fighting.... actually trying to knock the other guy out. Sometimes in the process they would engage in toe-to-toe exchanges, with each guy giving as good as he took. That could never happen with Wlad. The moment he took a decent one on the chin, he'd be down and out. He knows this..... so he fights like crap. The fact he's knocked out so many opponents is a testament to how little resistance they've put up when in the ring. Of the few exceptions, you had guys like Povetkin, who came in to make an honest effort to win, and what did Wlad do? Turn the fight into a "foul-fest". There's no way you can make a comparison between the quality of Lewis and Mike Tyson fights and Wlad fights and have Wlad look good. No way. Lewis' and Tyson's fights were exciting, and they brought fans to HW boxing. Wlad's fights have turned people off from the division.
-
So now Wlad doesn't even credit for knocking opponents out? Bloody hell
-
Re: Wlad-Fury - Plus Rod Stewart. 10pm. Saturday/SKY PPV. Fact.
You don't read very well, do you.
He gets credit.
But you'll forgive me if I don't bow at the altar of the Great Wladimir Klitschko The Greatest Heavyweight Boxing Champion in the History of the Universe... ok?
Some of you need to loosen the grip on your blinders.... they'll give you a killer migraine.
My contention..... and bear in mind these are all opinions, just like you guys in the Hail Mighty Wlad Fan Club have your own..... my contention is that just to blabber that Wlad defended his title for 10 years, blah, blah, blah..... yadda, yadda, yadda..... doesn't amount to a hill of beans to me. As with any empty shell of a number, you need to look past that. How did Wlad do against the key opponents in his career? Forget getting the damn "W". How did he perform against Haye? Sultan? Povetkin?
Finally.... along came Fury with all his faults, quirks, annoying personality, and controversial views on life. He also came along with the size to equal Wlad's..... and a confidence that unnerved Wlad and brought his REAL FEARS out so everyone could see. His fans were in denial all these years..... but Wlad proved some of us right once and for all.
No "cojones".

Except you only want to see one.
Fury avoided Price because he is a giant like him. So not so different to Wlad.
Fury never went all out to go toe to toe with China chinned Wlad despite assuring everyone he was a fighting man to the core. So just like Wlad.
You insisted the only reason Wlad got knockouts was the unwillingness of his opponents to engage. That makes no sense and Fury is hardly Mr excitement either.
We have watched Fury for years on small Hall terrestrial TV show cards fighting bigger bums than Wlad has been fed so most Brits know Fury as cautious as he can be, will at some point be sparked out.
That may be by Wlad in a rematch, a smaller fighter like Haye or a supposedly overhyped prospect like Anthony Joshua. Until then props to him but as ridiculous as it seems I don't think, unlike Ross, that Fury is the second coming of Ali.

Admittedly, I would've liked to see more from Fury. But in a battle or contest of who does less..... Wlad was the clear and runaway winner. Why should Fury risk a Hail Mary shot, when he had Wlad thoroughly defeated and embarrassed?

Yes is does make sense. Did you watch the Wlad-Austin fight? Disgraceful. A giant of a man, and yet he went into the ring like a puppy who has just wet an expensive rug. All he needed was the "Please hit me" sign pasted to his chin to complete the picture.

See my comments above. There's several categories of us fans here. There's Ross.... pretty much in a category by himself (especially if he feels Fury is the second coming of Ali)..... there's Lyle, yourself, and a handful of others.... who still defend Wlad and his style of fighting...... and there's others of us in the middle somewhere. I haven't seen enough of Fury to make strong statements one way or another. I saw the Cunningham fight, and was surprised to see such a big man floored by a LHW. On the other hand, Fury did get up and knock Cunningham out afterward. For this fight, I wanted a knockout of Wlad and was disappointed Fury didn't go for it harder. But I understand that a big powerful guy like Wlad will take a free shot if he gets one, especially if his own chin is in no danger. So why throw away a perfectly good victory by making a stupid mistake.
Here's the fine line between us: I credit Wlad with his knockout victories because they have occurred. Can't deny history. But with my fine-toothed comb, I discredit them at the same time because Wlad NEVER TAKES RISKS going on the offensive, which every other HW fighter in history has done in their fights. Not only that. Wlad will use whatever means necessary, legal or otherwise, to keep his chin untouched. Very unforthcoming for a HW champ, IMO.

Ok, so we're not that far apart in this particular continuum.
Difference is you're apparently a lot more familiar with Fury than I am.
I'm still ecstatic Fury defeated and embarrassed Wlad, because IMO that reign had to end. People had turned away from the HW division in droves. Let me mention a good Klitschko fight for the ages, which all fans enjoyed...... Vitali vs. Lennox. Now THAT was a heavyweight fight. So you see.... I'm much more of a Wlad hater than a Fury fan. And I hate the "fighting" style, not the man. Need to make that clear.

Hardly.
Even he knows Wlad is shit.
He just rates Fury just as low.

Yeah....but he sees your double standard and he's called you out on it...I mean I would have, but according to ross I know nothing of boxing and according to you I'm a biased fanboy....so I guess I don't get a say.
Continue on...you were talking to Beanz

Double standard? Has your brain entirely turned to mush?
I hate Wlad.... so now I have double standards?
That Thanksgiving turkey was a bit spiked..... no?

You hate Wladimir's style yes?
But you big up Tyson Fury for beating Wladimir using a style that was......well I'll allow you to finish that....didn't have the KO at the end of it like most Wlad fights, but hey I guess that's how Fury differs

Lyle, we don't need to argue about this. I wasn't thrilled about Fury's style myself. I would've preferred a devastating KO instead. But let's face it. Wlad IS big..... Wlad IS powerful. Fury had to be cautious and not hand over another victory to Wlad on a silver platter.
Now..... going forward.....
If Fury adopts the same style as Wlad for his HW title defenses........... I'll allow you to finish that one.

If you don't call him on it now, then I don't really care....that's the price of intellectual honesty

Umm....
Do you know about statistics, Lyle?
You know..... the science of collecting and analyzing numerical data in large quantities?
Well..... if I may..... 60 fights is a larger database and thus a more reliable figure than just one.
So, if you don't mind.... (and please refrain from the use of the word "intellectual" if you're going to come forth with THAT argument)..... I'd rather defer my opinion on Fury until a later date.
Cheerio.

Lyle has very little understanding of statistics, or seemingly any scientific discipline for that matter.

Is that a rhetorical question?

I wanted someone to beat Wlad and take his crown..... it happened.
Not the way I would've wanted it done, but the result was the same.
How is that so difficult to understand..... and how is this in any way, shape, or form a double standard.
I know deep down inside, you know I'm right.
But your damn ego and pigheadedness won't let you admit it.
So you babble on about why I don't rake Fury over the coals for the same thing I do Wlad, and you totally ignore we're talking about one damn fight.
But it's ok.
I've become used to your nonsensical way of arguing.
