Some evidence for my 'this new rep system is flawed' theory
Ok I know you guys think I'm harping on here, and indeed I am, I like to harp :D
But this is a clear example of how this new system of building a reputation is completely flawed.
A user can in just one month of regular posting earn a rep that eclipses that of a well respected longstanding poster who has happened to take some time off.
Now let's look at DG' Diane as an example.
Let me say firstly that I really like Diane, she's a cool girl and one of my favourite new posters BUT
She has the 24th highest reputation on the whole of Saddo's despite having posted only 278 times
This is the equivilent of a boxer being made p4p number 1 on his pro debut
In under 280 postings she has managed to build a better rep than Memphis with 12000 posts, Scrap with 3780, Missy with 10,777, KillerSheep with over 4000, Big H 7500 posts, Amat 6500, Lords Gym 6103, X 4022 plus other well respected posters like
Brad4boxer, Fenster, Sal The Butcher, Ono, BZKFN, Smashup (11000 posts!), Adam GB (6287), p4pking (4500) Sweet Pea (2600), Snakey (8127)
Mad Dog (5205), Steelie (6331), TitoBHB (5489), Hulk (3749) and a host more.
All of the posters I mentioned had excellent reps under the old coolclick system, reputations that would last over time BUT because they havn't been so active over the past 4 weeks since the new system has been implemented a poster with UNDER 300 POSTS has now eclipsed them all.
She's not alone, DeanRW has less than 700 posts and is now above virtually all of those mentioned.
This new system only rewards the previous 4 weeks. As everybody's punch power will increase (probably double) every 4 weeks this will be a consistent self perpetuating thing.
There's no longer any consistency or stability to the rankings.
I know it's just for fun and not to be taken seriously but really if none of you take it seriously then why not just let me get it changed back to the old system ;D
The coolclick system better reflected the value and contribution of users over time.
You wouldn't touch a ranking system like this with a barge pole when it came to ranking fighters on an all time p4p so why do we have it in place here?
Thankyou, that is all :soapbox:
Re: Some evidence for my 'this new rep system is flawed' theory
Let me just explain this one more way so people can understand that I'm not complaining about nothing.
Since we've had the new forum rep system in place my reputation has doubled!
So what I had patiently built in 3 FREAKING YEARS was matched in just a few weeks.
As the rep system is inflationary by nature this means that over the next say 6 weeks my reputation will have doubled again!
So once again my entire reputation earned over all of my time here at Saddos is matched in just six weeks.
This means if even our most esteemed user with the most peerless reputation on the board was to go away for 6 weeks, he or she would come back and find himself dumped 30 or more places down on the rankings.
As a sensible boxing site we argue for common sense and a rational approach when rating fighters on a p4p scale, especially an all time one.
This system we can see would be absolutely crazy for a real life ranking system so why do we have it in place on Saddo's?
It makes no sense whatsoever. If this system was in place for real rankings Marvin Hagler wouldnt even be rated in the 5000 middleweigts on an all time p4p list as his wins would mean only a fraction of what a modern da fighters would.
It's completely absurd. Now please is there ANYONE else who gets what I'm saying here?
Re: Some evidence for my 'this new rep system is flawed' theory
i get what you're saying..
i've def reaped the benefits of the rep system, obviously..
I think that if there is going to be something done about it then it needs to happen quick before things get that much out of hand..
only like 10-15 people including myself have had huge increases from not having too much rep..(i think i had like 65 ccs to 16 scs)

Exactly my point buddy! It HAS to be addressed now because it will get worse really fast.
The situation could be that a member like myself Mick or Gamo could leave for a few weeks and our reputations would have plummeted to be replaced by people with less than 1000 posts!
It just doesn't make any sense!
Re: Some evidence for my 'this new rep system is flawed' theory
so waht is the resolution?
come up with some algorithm that makes sense!! haha

In my opinion the only solution is to go back to the old coolclick system.
By its very nature the punch power system is flawed because it's based on inflation therefore the only point that matters in terms of reputation building is right now.
You cannot have a workable system where everybody's reputation doubles or even greater every 6 weeks.
You have around 1000 reps. CutMeMick has around 5000 and has been one of the pillars of this board for over 3 years.
Under the old coolclick system he could take say 6 months off and still be in the top 2 or 3 in reputation because of all the coolclicks he had built up during those 3 years.
Now if he took just say 10 weeks off he would be replaced by probably everyone who currently has close to 1000 reps.
It makes no sense whatsoever, it only rewards and reflects the past few weeks not the whole history of Saddo's
The ONLY solution in my mind is to go back to the old coolclick system. Any notion of variable punch power that can increase just destroys the system longterm.
Re: Some evidence for my 'this new rep system is flawed' theory
yeah, but i mean what do we do with all the rep we've racked up now? Do we just count one rep, regardless of the punch power, as 1 cc and convert it back to cc's? or do we just say that i have 900+ cc's?

If I was Saddo and had the coolclick counts for everybody prior to the changeover I would just restore it back to how it was then.
If not I'd probably divide everybody's current reputation by 2 and set that as the coolclick count for everybody.
So Mick would have about 2500, I'd have 2350, you'd 450 etc
That would be an approximation of what we had before.
I genuinely think that would be in the best interest of the site. Even though the rep system is just a bit of fun, if you're going to have it, let's make it right, you agree?

I see your point to a degree, but quit being such a bitch. You have a punch power of 60 and a rep of nearly 5K based on 10k posts. Most quality posters have a rep to post rate of about 1:3. Yours is almost 1:2. Why does it matter one bit? Everybody knows that you, Gamo, Mick, Sheep (who has been largely inactive lately, VD, and Gorilla, and a handful of others are saddo legends and staples of this site. If you need some magic number to validate that, it's pretty sad. Please move out of your mothers hobbit hole and get some self-esteem;)
I don't hear Taeth bitching about his rep or power, and he's one of the most interesting posters on the site and at one time, he was one of the most active. I've been around since 2005 and I had 10 CC's for every 1 SC before the switch, and I'm punching like a Flyweight right now. Do I give a damn? No.
The only problem is that people who suck up to guys with high PP's can get their own reps up too soon, but with Saddo's new system where you have give a smaller amount of reps, it's nobodys fault except the longtime, hardcore members if they inflate newbie's too high too soon. People with 20+ punchpower need to thing twice before they throw full rep to newbs and they should make a point to boost up the reps of the people they feel deserve it. You can't go around using the new system like we used CC's and SC's. It's not the system, it's they way users are handling the system.
And FYI, not all 1000 post are equal. Some people constantly post very short, insignificant posts and rack up their number very quickly. If you were to take the total number of my words in 975 posts, or whatever I have, you would find that I've contributed more to this site than a heck of a lot of people with twice the posts. Who gives a rat's ass? The posters who matter know and respect my posts and that's all that matters to me.

I'm not whining for myself! I have a great reputation!
It's for all the others that I'm raising this point, for people like Taeth and Big H and YOU for example who had great reputations before but who have lost them because they havn't been so active since we had the new system!!!
If under the new system you had a great reputation and now you don't then this new system has failed you to some degree, would you not agree?
It's not a big deal in the scheme of things but I'm just trying to help make the site the fairest it can be for everyone.
Why call me a bitch? I'm trying to do what's right for everybody, it doesn't benefit me in the slightest?
Re: Some evidence for my 'this new rep system is flawed' theory
Bilbo Buddy,You really have to squash it.Do you really think someone's "True Rep" is defined by mathmatics and little green cubes?Top members can never loose Reputation and as long as there spoken of and "Rep"resented We know who the vets and top dogs are.....The Dates when joined & activity can say quite a bit as well.We are all responsible for out Reps and how we respond in Kind :D

Yeah well I guess if nobody else cares or minds I will just 'squash' it. I just thought it was worth making the point to see if anybody cared whether we had gone from a 'lifelong' ranking system to a 'monthly' ranking system or not.
If am indeed the only person who cares then I will drop it.

I can't help it if people are giving me good rep. I don't go around asking people to rep me, like some people I know. ;) ;D
Yes, a small portion of my reps is from those who welcomed me because I was Danny's friend, but the majority of it comes from people liking what I have to say, and those people do not have to give me full rep, they can always just give me 1 rep point if they want.
Why do you keep giving me full rep points when you obviously think that I don't deserve it?
This is something that is just supposed to be for fun. Rep points shouldn't matter, what should matter is the people of this forum, and the opinions they have to share.
So I'll tell you what, I think that I can go into my options, and make it so I cannot be rated by anyone anymore. Will that satisfy you then?

i mean, i don't specifically "care".. if you didn't make this topic i wouldn't have talked about it, but considering you did i said how i felt..
it's pretty obvious the ratings have gone crazy, and obviously they will only multiply.. i personally don't care much about my rating, i generally just rep guys who's posts i liked.. i just don't like how i have to rep 9 more people til i can rep that guy again..
