Margarito wouldn't be able to land a goddamn thing on Mayweather
I just watched Margarito and Cintron 2, and besides his workrate there is nothing impressive about Antonio Margarito except his chin. He doesn't hit ridiculously hard, he's as slow as Baldomir, and he throws the widest punches I've ever seen. If he was in there against Mayweather he wouldn't be landing 15% of his punches, and no he would not break Mayweather down, I could see Cotto's power and sharpness maybe doing it, but Margarito doesn't have the strength or power to hurt Mayweather nor does he have the footspeed to keep up. This fight would look almost exactly like Mayweather-Baldomir except that Margarito would be throwing more punches. I see Vernon Forest, ODLH, Cotto, Mosley, Mayweather, Spinks, maybe even Mayorga all beating Margarito at 147-154... he is way overrated on this forum.

If Clottey was able to beat the holy shit out of Margarito for 5 rounds then Mayweather should be able to do it for 12. That's my reasoning. The guy can't block right hands and Mayweather probably has the best right hand lead in boxing.

have you ever started a thread that wasn't about mayweather or Roy jones?
Re: Margarito wouldn't be able to land a goddamn thing on Mayweather
Margarito is a tough fighter and his workrate makes him entertaining, but he is not an elite fighter and never will be.
Cotto is better at every aspect of the game, and I expect him to decisively beat Margarito. Mayweather would do the same.
Re: Margarito wouldn't be able to land a goddamn thing on Mayweather
I just watched the first half of Clottey Margarito and this reminds me how limited of a figher Margarito is. Clottey's hand speed and movement gave Tony fits until he hurt his hand. Clottey was landing quick, short, hard punches on Tony at will. I thought the Cotto fight was a pick'em fight but Cotto is a bigger puncher and better boxer than Clottey. I'm starting to think Cotto will torch Margarito. Head movement, lateral movement, and good defense negates Tony's pressure, he will be swinging at air against both Cotto and Floyd.
Re: Margarito wouldn't be able to land a goddamn thing on Mayweather
I pretty much give cotto a slim slim chance at beating mayweather....i give tony even less. But at the same time a fight between those two would be great and either will deserve a shot to prove me and anyone else wrong. Margarito for one thing is just too damn slow in comparison to pbf. I could see him throwing 100 plus punches a round and landing very few, and being pot shotted inbetween. Cotto would be a much better match imo.
Re: Margarito wouldn't be able to land a goddamn thing on Mayweather
I agree, I really hope Cotto/ Margarito comes of next... it's a great match-up.
I also agree with the topic of the thread that Margarito would have major issues vs Floyd

Lets be fair here though Tony was not 100 percent before the fight he twisted his ankle and had other complications, which El Gamo will be able to tell you the full story on.

Almost agree with everything except both Spinks and Mayorga would not beat him, PBF would catch a cold from all the missed Margarito shots flying by. Easy UD win for PBF against Margo. He just might land a good shot on Cotto and you never know in boxing!
Re: Margarito wouldn't be able to land a goddamn thing on Mayweather
Well to be honest it will take a flawed fighter to beat Mayweather. Nobody can outbox or outsmart PBF. Wide punches are effective against Mayweather and keeping pressure on him is a must. There are some guys that can potentially beat Mayweather and Id put Margarito on that list. Forrest, Cotto, Quintana, and Williams are all guys that I could see beating Mayweather all for different reasons. I also think Joel Julio has a good style to beat Mayweather in a couple years if Floyd is still fighting.
Re: Margarito wouldn't be able to land a goddamn thing on Mayweather
tony is not gifted in speed or in power etc but tony is one of those fighters that knows how to beat you. thats what makes him dangerous and floyd knows it.When tony is tony the tiger margarito, he can dominate fighters in front of him. Sure it may seem he wont be able to hit floyd with all of floyds running and ducking. Thats fine though cause tony is one of the decieving veteran fighters out there. He gets down to the nitty gritty and finds the route to a victory. Im not saying he'll beat floyd for sure but what im sure of his he is likely to find a way to. Remember floyd/castillo? can you figure out how castillo was able to land? im sure tony can figure how to.
Re: Margarito wouldn't be able to land a goddamn thing on Mayweather
If Margarito is a guy who knows how to win then why does he 5 loses on his record? I am not even saying this just concerning Mayweather, but he is the guy everybody has been takling about being scard of Tony. IMO it will take a lot better pressure fighter to beat Mayweather. Roy JOnes Jr lost to GLen Johnson because Glen throws nice quick, sharp punches on the inside. A guy similar to that is Cotto who right now I give the best chance of giving Mayweather a run for his money besides maybe a guy like SPinks who is southpaw. The who beats Mayweather will have to be able to switch up the pace, and really be able to improvise in the ring. Castillo fought a slow steady pace against MAyweather, and thats why he was countering MAyweather as good as anyone, and why he was successful with MAyweather against the ropes, but Castillo is a much better technical inside fighter than MArgarito, he's faster, p4p a harder hitter, and he also has an iron jaw.

Like I said Castillo is a way better, faster, technically trained fighter htan TOny. His punches were sharper, he used a lot of holding on the inside to get his punches off, and his was able to time Mayweather because Mayweather fought differently back then. Because Mayweather hardly uses the jab anymore its almost impossible to time him, and Castillo picked his punches while Margarito just throws anything. DId you watch Mayweather vs Chavez, N'Dou? THat more how I see this fight going, but even those two were faster than Tony.

forget about it taeth, you know how in boxing a fighter comes in as a huge underdog and he gives a whole lot of problems to the fighters thats suppose to just maul him. Well this is how it could go down, tony showing nothing much to be able to win and floyd is suppose to be an unlitimate slick boxer fighter but gets run down somehow with tony's ways.
Re: Margarito wouldn't be able to land a goddamn thing on Mayweather
Taeth, I totally agree. You actually beat me to the Baldomir comparison. Floyd would almost pitch a shutout against Tony. I can't see Tony winning more than 2-3 rounds if any.
