When HBO/etc. really touts their faves to make you sick....
Don't you hate it when a fighter is CLEARLY being trumped up and highly-praised and it just seems to be a real pre-planned promotional maneuver in order to trump up a fighter's "status" in the eyes of the viewers? Don't you hate that fishy smell?
What fighters can you remember were really nauseatingly over-hyped in a disgustingly OBVIOUS way by the announcers and commentators on, OH, LET'S SAY UH...., HBO, MAYBE???:p
Funny thing was, alot of them turned out to be just shadows of the intended SUPERSTAR STATUS that they hoped (and hyped!) they would attain.
In my mind, those marketing moghuls really went to town on the supposed stellar future of certain fighters, and it merely backfired on them when it never materialized.
One fighter really comes to mind IMO, and that is Sam Peter.
Re: When HBO/etc. really touts their faves to make you sick....
Zab Judah-Joshua Clottey. I seriously thought Kellerman was going to suck Judah's dikk. He was riding him that hard. And Judah wasn't even winning
Re: When HBO/etc. really touts their faves to make you sick....
Yeah that is a GREAT example of this vomit-phenomenon. Kellerman can really get annoying sometimes, and that is an understatement. I personally never admired much about Judah EVER, and that goes for his CHARACTER as well as his boxing skill.
Keelerman also used to bow down and worship Paul Spadafora, do you remember that nonsense? This guy has turned out to be what, then, in hindsight?
Re: When HBO/etc. really touts their faves to make you sick....
Max wasn't touting Judah that much. He said Zab was giving a good effort, but he had Clottey ahead in the fight.
I love Lampley, but sometimes his love for Oscar and Barrera went completely over the top. Oscar would throw one of those 10 punch flurries where 1 punch lands and 9 miss, and Lampley would get so excited that he would practically start crying.

1 punch would land
I agree, his love of Oscar was ridiculous & how he & Merchant tried to set up a rematch with PBF immediately after a fight that wasn't close enough to warrant it was unbelievable, especially considering it was hardly a thriller of a fight

Hahahaha.... exactly!!! Typical Lampley... seeing what he wants to see.

oscar de la hoya. I was a fan of Oscar when i was a little kid so i always wanted him to win so i was seeing what Lampley was seeing but now im older i go and rewatch some of those fights and i get sick
Re: When HBO/etc. really touts their faves to make you sick....
the thing that annoys me the most by almost all of the commentators on HBO (including Steward at times) is how they'll boast up a fight, or a fighter, and then when what they were originally saying goes sour, they try to switch it up and the end and are all like "i always knew that it what turn out this way"

"Slo-mo": The 10-punch flurry's worst enemy.
;D ;D
Re: When HBO/etc. really touts their faves to make you sick....
They are just desperate for the next big fighter, alot of fighters are getting old it seems to be a changing of the guard so to speak.

Steward did this really badly at Mayweather-Baldomir. Before the fight in the intros, he said Baldomir was going to be a real rough opponent for Floyd with a real shot at winning.
Then after the fight, he said something like, "Well, I knew Baldomir never really had a chance to win."
Re: When HBO/etc. really touts their faves to make you sick....
lol, I remember that... :-X
Lampley is the worst for it... a fighter lands a shot on somebody's elbow...
"BIIIG LEFT HOOK TO THE RIBS BY VARGAS"

hah, yes!! I remember always waiting for the replay to see if anything actually landed because i was pretty sure nothing did..
In the same respect, he's always delayed on when someone gets stunned.. Until their legs are jelly and they're about to fall over it's as if nothing happened.. Then they're out on their feet and he'll throw a "So and so JUST TOOK A SHOT STRAIGHT ON THE CHIN!!".. yes, that happened 3 seconds ago.

Re: When HBO/etc. really touts their faves to make you sick....
I have to disagree. People on this forum in particular love to make this allegation at HBO's announce crew. I have been watching HBO boxing for 20 years and have never noticed any intentional bias.
