Cotto appoints new trainer
Looks like Cotto has appointed hisr former nutritionist as his trainer, he has been with him for a few years so knows him well but who knows what his credentials are for being trainer. His uncle was with him for 16 years, anyone else think this is a bad decision considering he has a major fight coming up.maybe a case of better the devil you know but i would have thought he could have approached a more proven trainer.
Re: Cotto appoints new trainer
I got a bad feeling about this 1 its almost like having Billy Blanks for James Toney when he fought Peter the 2nd time around. Clottey might be able to take advantage and squeak out a decision.

Agree, if it starts to get into the trenches then what is a nutritionist going to do, maybe give him a Mars bar !! Seriously though if he has been with the same trainer for that long it's gonna be a slog for someone who can't read the fight as clearly as a seasoned trainer.
Re: Cotto appoints new trainer
I never thought it would be Joe Santiago but so be it. Evangelista and Miguel were not on good speaking terms before and Miguel was practically training on his own anyway so who gives a shiet who he picks two months before a fight, it's not as though he will learn anything useful from any of the trainers who are available like Buddy McDirt for example ;D Cotto and Santiago are just going to have to sit and watch some old footage of the Grand Master JC from Ghana and come up with a decent game plan or two. I think this will be a hell of a fight now ;D I would have liked to have seen Cotto and Diaz but Diaz will be in Cotto's corner and Diaz is always putting his two cents into training and during fights so it will be as though he has Diaz anyways and I am sure Diaz will be their sharing his ideas and I think these three will be just fine togehter.
Re: Cotto appoints new trainer
I think a guy like Cotto at this point in his career doesn't really need a trainer to teach him things, he is as good technically as he is going to get, and he just needs a guy who can keep him excited, keep him in great shape for fights. IMO having a bad relationship with a great trainer is worse than having great relationship with a less experienced trainer, and who knows, maybe this guy has more experience as a general trainer than Evangelista does who has no boxing background.
Re: Cotto appoints new trainer
Look , that is what Cotto commented : " I really want be with a trainer that work with me , no that order somebody to say WHAT things are good for me and my trainer , I want somebody be with me at least 1 1/2 or 2 hours everyday in the Gym and to put Attention to all things that i'm doing for make corrections , that is the reason that i preferred to move my training camp to Florida "....................
Although , he said that now when finished his relation with Evangelista his "uncle" , he now would start a new stage without Pressure in where confirmed his tension that existed with his uncle ..........
" Now i feel less Pressure and i hope that this give me the opportunity to make my trainings much better and i want add , that this will not going have any effect in my training for the fight "......
" I have the enough strong to be the same boxer , i know what to do in the trail , i know what to do in the Gym and i know what to do in the Ring the day of the fight "................
In all this situation , i still thinking , of why the hell Evangelista Cotto complained to move the training camp in where Cotto had much better performance as in other fights ...........Obviously i thought that Evangelista have other boxers in charge and that IMO i think that was one of his interest in which he didn't want to leave ........

Cotto is only 28, he can still learn new things and implement them into his gameplan, Pacquiao who's 30 started making the adjustments to his style at about Cotto's age now, hell even Barrera was 27 when he fought Hamed, and that's the fight that he basically made the full transition to a boxer/puncher, Cotto's still young and can still pick up new tricks, or sharpen up the tools he has

Cotto could've gone either way. With someone familiar to him that he'd feel comfortable with, but maybe not as proven at the world class stage.... or a proven trainer who may or may not mesh well with Cotto. I would've preferred the latter, but Cotto obviously didn't, so.... so be it. Hopefully it won't hurt him for this fight.
But eventually I would like to see him with an Emmanuel Stewart, or someone of that caliber, who could tap into Cotto's huge potential and drive him to even greater heights.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. I definitely have confidence that Cotto will be in great shape and prepared to battle Clottey. My only concern is when things get hot during a fight. Will this new guy know what to say to Cotto?
Re: Cotto appoints new trainer
I think Cotto's done the best thing for this fight, stick with the the tried and trusted team, minus the snakes head. Miguel's got all the skills he needs to dismantle his next opponent, he is a vet now and knows what to do in a boxing ring, a bit like Joe with Enzo, Cotto's got the skills not his uncle. After this one though I would like to see him with maybe R. Mayweather or Manny as some one posted above, I think they are two guy's who could add something to Miguel's skill set, the way Cotto dodged Margarcheato's punches at the end of the fifth round shows he could mesh well with uncle Roger and that would be the road that I would like to see Cotto take.

with the buzz that PBF is gonna return you know he's not gonna let Uncle Roger train Cotto lol
Re: Cotto appoints new trainer
I've never really seen the need for a trainer during a fight, I mean they all say the same shit, you got to work your jab, go to the body more, keep busy etc.
How hard can that job be really?
As for training him to fight, he already knows everything he's going to know so I don't think it matters who trains him as long as they have a close relationship and bond.
Re: Cotto appoints new trainer
LOL Cotto should hire Floyd Mayweather Sr.:)
Re: Cotto appoints new trainer
The only thing Cotto has going for him is he's 28.
This guy's career is almost over. He won't psychologically ever recover from the Margarito loss. He'll never be the same. And Clottey will do to Cotto what Foreman did to Frazier.
This guy Cotto is in deep trouble. And now he's got the Nutritionist. To hear he is a spoiled baby in the gym doesn't surprise me at all. I had his juvenile number 4 years ago already. Yes he did gain a bit more boxing skill than I thought he ever would, but as we saw his stamina is in deep question, and his heart doesn't seem to be there when the going gets rough (if in doubt, please see Round 11 again, and how he took 2 knees--did Joe Frazier take any knees against Foreman? What this tells me is this NEW YOUNG GENERATION doesn't have the warrior heart that the older generations had. Cotto is no exception)
SHOUT OUT TO TITFAN AND RICAN AND ALL THE OTHER COTTO-LOVERS:
YOUR BOY IS FINISHED. HE NEVER, EVER WAS ANYTHING NEAR THE HYPE HE HAS RECEIVED.
A WILFREDO BENITEZ HE WILL NEVER BE. Fighters like Wilfredo are a dying breed.

After the Margo conviction, I have been at a loss for words for any other thread regarding him or pretty much any other subject...I think there is a small possibility that this could happen to alot of Cotto fans after the JC fight. Simply be at a loss for words after a loss.
