Couldn't agree more, I definitely have no sympathy for people who have been given second chances and blow it. Could have changed his life around if he wanted

That's true and certainly there has to be some responsibility exercised by Kirkland, but I'm glad that ODLH is going to speak for him. De La Hoya has put his neck on the line for Kirkland, any corporate run pro sports franchise would have cut bait a long time ago. He's 25, I hope he doesn't get 3 years or you could essentially forget about his career.
Say what you want, but boxing was most likely the best thing Kirkland had and I'll assume it's what he's best at. After he gets out of prison that will have been taken away from him for to long to pick up the pieces and make another run.
It's a sad case, say what you want about him being a thug, but if there is a way to turn his life around it will likely be with boxing. Oh well, hopefully he can make good for himself.

yea i completely agree with both, i honestly never thought too much of Kirkland to begin with, i have said numerous times on here, ANYONE with a good right hand would give Kirkland fits, Julio did this to a certain point, IMO Williams (although a southpaw), Martinez, Forrest (RIP), Mora, hell even Cintron would have probably handed Kirkland his ass

Dude was robbed at gunpoint earlier this year, I know laws are laws but it is not like he pulled a gun on anyone this time. I don't get this idea that Kirkland is trying to play a thug or anything like that. I think he was trying to obtain a gun to make sure he wouldn't be letting himself be robbed again. I don't really know if I agree that felons shouldn't be allowed to carry weapons either, I mean aren't they the people most likely to be shot? They should have to get a permit like anyone else but it is pretty much a fact that if they won't let you get one legally you will have to get one illegally in order to protect yourself.

I'm not saying Kirkland should be able to own a gun but there is simple logic to why he might feel the need to own one. That thought has more to do with people automatically thinking he is a thug, and the comments about felons being allowed to own guns to do with the actual law. I know in Kirkland's case he was arrested for a firearm related offense before and he should get in trouble for this. What about someone that stole $1000 worth of golf clubs though and got a felony charge, should they not be allowed to own a gun to protect themselves? Or someone who records a conversation without consent in the state I live, FL, they get charged with a felony and lose the right to protect themselves. Instead of saying all felons can't ever have a gun or ammo again they should change it to crimes seriously violent in nature or felonies commited with the presence of a gun should lose gun rights or make it part of the sentencing on a case by case basis.

Mark, it is much easier to just say "yeah he has no common sense" than it is to actually show any kind of evidence of such. So what about my posts isn't common sense? We can agree that people with violent convictions in the past should in most cases not get their gun rights back and we can agree that Kirkland should be punished for this. So the difference is that I believe we shouldn't have a blanket law disallowing felons from owning guns? Fine you can believe they shouldn't but isn't it common sense that someone who stole over $1000, cheated on taxes, or committed some other non violent offense deemed a felony shouldn't be excluded from owning a gun? Or is the problem that I said I could understand why Kirkland might want to own a gun after being robbed at gunpoint earlier this year?
