Mayweather has shown that he is a PPV attraction by the #s his last fight put up. However in my opinion this does not mean he is necessarily a bigger draw than Manny. I think that Mayweather sparked the public's interest and Manny and Miguel will set it off sort of. I'll go out on a limb and say that Pac Cotto does 1.3 M
How do you predict Pac - Cotto sales go?

And Mayweather-Hatton did 900,000+ and that's just the US numbers. Either way Floyd has proven that he's the bigger draw than Pac against the same opponents in a very similar economic climate.Quote:

Cotto-Pac might be similar to Hatton-Pac in terms of ppv buys, in that they are 2 foreign fighters that have an exciting style but does only a decent number, overall it's the American buying general public that dictates PPV sales.

Well, PBF definitely carried this event and I'm glad boxing showed UFC up only because Dana White is a very mouthy president for them. Pac/Cotto has two fighters who have a decent following even though Pac might have more. So Pac/Cotto should do well itself. But there is no denying that PBF is a bigger draw than Pac. They now have 3 common opponents(Hatton, DLH, Marquez) and in each case PBF drew more PPV buys than when Pac fought them.

Mayweather-Hatton
US: 920,000 buys
UK: 1.4m buys
Pacquiao-Hatton
US: 825,000 buys
UK: 350,000 buys
Kind of says it all. Unless you want me to bring out the comparison between how Mayweather sold against ODLH & JMM with how Pac did against those same opponents. Just accept it he's a star.
For the record I think Pacquiao-Cotto does 1m, maybe more as they're two fighters with big communities in the US. Difference between them & PBF-JMM is that they both have proved to be a draw of some kind in the past.

Most "Americans" I know wanted Hatton to beat Mayweather and wanted Marquez to beat Mayweather.
I think you underestimate how a lot of people tend to get behind the perceived underdog/humble fighter. Which in 24/7's case, and 24/7 does seem to be the X-factor in marketing BIG PPV's sales, the humble and/or underdog fighter always seems to not be an American.
I think a lot of people bought that fight to see if Marquez could pull an upset against Floyd, not to see an "American beat the crap out of a foreigner" :rolleyes:
Also, unless HBO publishes to PPV numbers as part of an official annual report or something I'm not going to believe any number I hear. Way too much money and politics behind it to believe talk.
As far as I know it's perfectly legal to lie about the amount of PPV sales something did to the public.
I don't know why everyone seems so suprised by Mayweather's numbers. He's American, has a hip hop image, is in the news for things outside of boxing, trashtalks, has alot of money and loves to show it and plays the villain. He's what alot of young people across the world find cool and someone alot of older people want to see get knocked out. People can't even pronounce Pacquiao Cotto.
We have different perceptions then, most Americans I know were rooting for Floyd to ko Hatton, because as someone pointed out Floyd appeals to the younger fans, especially to the hip hop generation. And many people bought the Floyd-Marquez fight was to see him back in action and return to the ring as the true p4p king (I'm not saying Pacman didn't earn his #1 p4p status).Quote:

Most Americans, don't know who Pacquiao or Cotto is. They can't even pronounce their names. They are seen as 2 foreigners, even though Puerto Ricans have American citizenship by birthright. And Pacquiao is seen as an oddity in boxing (by the American general public), sort of an Yao Ming type.
I'm from Australia and I'd have to agree. When I first got into boxing I checked out Pacquiao fights because I'm half Filipino and Jim Lampley would always be talking about how much of an international superstar Manny is and I remember thinking how come I've never heard of him before. I'm a massive Pacquiao fan but I think his worldwide recognition is grossly overestimated because of his cult status in the Philippines. The sad thing is I'd never heard of Mayweather as well. The only thing you hear about here is rugby fucking league. Man I never knew that Peurto Ricans had a birthright to American citizenship. You learn something new everyday

Before I signed up to Saddos and started hearing about this Pacquiao fellow, Mayweather, Marquez, etc. All I knew was Ali was the man, but a lil punch drunk these days. RJJ was slick. Thanks man. I think this forum is the best on the net. I played soccer when I was younger and I think I could of gone so much further if there was just a place I could find reliable information. This forum is it for boxing. Yeh man it was awesome when I first got into boxing. Just seeing the completely unique styles of all the great modern fighters for the first time kept me on youtube for hours at a time. Chris Nagel gave me some advice a while back and suggested I checked out the old fighters. Now I sit back in awe watching Willie Pep.
I was the first one to diss Floyd on the PPv thing and the first one to say he wouldn't much higher than 500k of PPV and I admit I was wrong and surprised (still surprised a bit). I was wrong on that one, plain and simple, Floyd's an ass overall but he still drag a good crowd and foster interest into the sport, which can only be good for everybody involved into boxing.
