I'm from Australia and I'd have to agree. When I first got into boxing I checked out Pacquiao fights because I'm half Filipino and Jim Lampley would always be talking about how much of an international superstar Manny is and I remember thinking how come I've never heard of him before. I'm a massive Pacquiao fan but I think his worldwide recognition is grossly overestimated because of his cult status in the Philippines. The sad thing is I'd never heard of Mayweather as well. The only thing you hear about here is rugby fucking league. Man I never knew that Peurto Ricans had a birthright to American citizenship. You learn something new everyday

Jahmez, I had been boxing for nearly 2 years and had fights under my belt in two countries already before I started to learn a bit about professional boxing. Before I signed up to Saddos and started hearing about this Pacquiao fellow, Mayweather, Marquez, etc. All I knew was Ali was the man, but a lil punch drunk these days. RJJ was slick. That was it!

It was was kinda cool asa new boxer to be like this. I mean, it made it so much more exciting to learn the sport in both training and history. I kinda like you Jahmez (in a totally non gay way lol) and hope you stick around Saddos and the trainin section. You got a really good attitude for boxing me thinks.

Thanks man. I think this forum is the best on the net. I played soccer when I was younger and I think I could of gone so much further if there was just a place I could find reliable information. This forum is it for boxing. Yeh man it was awesome when I first got into boxing. Just seeing the completely unique styles of all the great modern fighters for the first time kept me on youtube for hours at a time. Chris Nagel gave me some advice a while back and suggested I checked out the old fighters. Now I sit back in awe watching Willie Pep.

I was the first one to diss Floyd on the PPv thing and the first one to say he wouldn't much higher than 500k of PPV and I admit I was wrong and surprised (still surprised a bit). I was wrong on that one, plain and simple, Floyd's an ass overall but he still drag a good crowd and foster interest into the sport, which can only be good for everybody involved into boxing.

I think this proves that the 24/7 series of marketing and all the other marketing stops worked. PBF isn't the cash cow.

DeWalt was a sponsor and there were posters in every Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

GBP had some mexican beer company giving rebates and coupons for the exact value of the fight so you could basically see it for free if you ordered it and bought enough beer.

Mayweather's name is very recognizable now, but his fan base isn't real high. He's well known like O.J. every body wants to see him get smashed.

Mayweather has benefitted greatly from the new marketing tactics more than people wanting to see him. Imagine if Hagler Hearns, SRL Hearns, etc were ppv's and had 24/7 marketing them?

And to add, this last fight had a very strong undercard. Actually that's what convinced me to order. I had people over and none of the 11 people wanted to see PBF. We were gonna order UFC, but I decided that Kats, and Juarez fights would be good and reading the rumors that PBF didn't look good in training, the weight thing, etc..... maybe JMM drank enough piss to pull off an upset.

I figured I would be disappointed and that it was a mismatch but because the undercard would be good, I went with boxing.
