What was Calzaghe better at ?
Fighting off the backfoot or coming forward ?
Best performance on the backfoot : Jeff Lacy
Best performance coming forward : Mikkel Kessler
What you think ?
Re: What was Calzaghe better at ?
Backfoot, but he only very rarely had opponents come to him.

Do you really think Calzaghe fought Lacy on the back foot???
I havent seen the fight for a couple of years now but im pretty certain Calzaghe took the fight to him 95% of the fight.

From what i recall he did especially early in the fight.
He used his superior footwork to have Lacy come to him and then peppered him with combos then moved out.
I'm sure as the fight went on Calzaghe did start pressing forward.
Re: What was Calzaghe better at ?
backfoot but that was another strength of Calzaghe's, he was good at both.
Re: What was Calzaghe better at ?
He was better at waiting until great fighters were hitting their 40's before fighting them than anything.

This thread was made to discuss whether you thought Calzaghe was more effective coming forward or on the backfoot.
It is not made to criticize Calzaghe's ability to slap or his level of competition. :)
Re: What was Calzaghe better at ?
i think all threads end up completely different than the original post;D
Re: What was Calzaghe better at ?
Coming forward Chris Eubank, Mikkel Kessler, Charles Brewer, Roy Jones Jr, Mario Veit, Richie Woodhall, Omar Sheika.

Veit in Germany was a beatdown really impressive performance, even though he was fighting a overrated stiff.
