Pacquiao - Clottey Fight Discussion
I think a Pacquaio win is a foregone conclusion, so I'm basically more interested in how you think the fight will play out. If anyone thinks Clottey will win, I'd love to hear from them as well.
I think Pacquiao is just going to be too fast for Clottey. He'll frustrate him all night with his movement and handspeed and I don't think Clottey will have any answers. I think we'll see a late-round ref/corner stoppage.
Re: Pacquiao - Clottey: Who wins and how?
This is a hard one...I want to go with the norm and say Manny for the same reasons mentioned...Too much speed and movement but on the other hand..
Clottey has such a good chin and such tight defense...will Manny actually do damage like he did to DLH?...He certainly will not KO him cold like Hatton.....
Clottey is slow but he is well rounded....Manny may tire himself out or Manny might get caught...Clottey is a big WW in terms of how stocky he is...When you think of his career he has never actually been beaten...Sure losses on paper but never beaten up in the ring...
You have a DQ loss to Baldo that Clottey was winning before hand.....He was beating up Margarito until he broke his hands midway through the fight....
IMO the Cotto fight was so close either man could have gotten the decision.....
The key to this is Manny's movement speed and work rate if one of the three is not on point for him he could lose....By Stoppage
Re: Pacquiao - Clottey: Who wins and how?
I think Clottey may win the first round and maybe the second, while Pac sizes up his power and range. That's all I can really see him getting away with Clottey goes on vacation in the championship rounds, so if it's even close going into the later rounds it's Pac's fight. Clottey needs a KO to take this I don't think his lunging straight rights will connect effectively at all against Pac's superior lateral movement.
As ElTerrible said, it's very telling that there is next to no talk about this fight and it's just coming up this weekend.
Current odds for Pac/Clottey
Any means
Pac: -500 = 1/5
Clottey: +450 = 9/2
Draw: +3300 = 33/1

I will ban anyone from this thread who mentions PED's or any of that bullshit because I am both a mod and an asshole :).
75% of the members on this site won't participate in this thread now!;D
Back on topic, I say through attrition he takes Clottey out in the late rounds, I say around round 11. Speed, movement, power, and workrate is in his favor.
Re: Pacquiao - Clottey: Who wins and how?
Pacquiao by stoppage around the 10th round. Mostly by overwhelming Clottey and taking him out of the fight not necessarily consistently hurting him. Its not just that Pac is too fast and has too much movement but Clottey is all right for Pac's attributes. Clottey is too stationary, waits for his turn to punch, never lets his hands go, and never KOs anyone. Clottey's only reasonable chance is too catch Pac because he is not going to outbox him. To heighten the lucky chance of catching Pac that is going against everything Clottey fights like. Clottey has one real advantage and thats his size. Clottey only uses his size for defense. Against Pac this will turn into a disadvantage as Clottey will only be a bigger stationary target. When Clottey is ready to punch Pac won't be there. Or at least Pac will be slipping, easily catching onto to Clottey's rhythm, and finding openings. The fight will only last long because Clottey does usually cover up very well and thus takes less damage. Pac all day TKO 10.

The fight isn't talked about here but on other boards it's being talked about quite a bit. Plus I just read that the 45,000 seats are almost all sold out and it's expected to, unless Arum and Jones is bullshitting.Promoter Bob Arum expects sellout for Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey fight at Cowboys Stadium - ESPN Dallas
I'll go out on a limb and say this fight does around 850k-900k.
Re: Pacquiao - Clottey: Who wins and how?
Pacquiao by late TKO. Clottey's low workrate is gonna allow Pac to just swarm him. I think it might be competitive early, but by the mid to late rounds Pac just takes over and I see him forcing a late stoppage.
Re: Pacquiao - Clottey: Who wins and how?
Pacquiao seems to have all the advantages I can think of: faster, more pop in his punches, can take damage alright, workrate, etc. I can't believe so called "boxing experts" even give Clottey a chance. But hey! Anything to sell the fight, eh? :)
Re: Pacquiao - Clottey: Who wins and how?
Pac doesn't need to win....clottey does a good enough job of beating himself. Pac's power won't be a huge problem he has a great chin. His speed will be somewhat a prob but not huge, clottey just fought zab and the speed didn't affect him much. The angles won't be what does him in cause clottey spends most of his time completly covered up so where the punches come from won't be that big a deal. Clottey actually has a chance not to win i think, but to make it interesting. But like always he'lll beat himself. Pac by easy Ud.
Re: Pacquiao - Clottey: Who wins and how?
I see it as a late round stoppage or a UD in Pac's favor. I just don't like the idea of him just standing and taking the punch from his opponent just to assess their power and to find out whether he can take their hit. He might not be lucky the next time he does that.
The only way I see Clottey winning is if Pac becomes complacent and receives a lucky punch from Clottey (very remote since his KO ratio in his last few fights is not that good). Upsets do happen and is always a possibility in any fights.

I guess the dropped they floor seat prices as well because they weren't selling. I do hope it sells out as I always like to see live boxing do well. But it's not looking likely.

Unless the Ghanaian get one of those patented leaping right to connect, or maybe an "unforseen" accidental headbutt, LOL, which either or both can slow or STOP Pac down, I see very slim chance for Josh to win.
Word out of Pac's training camp seem to give credence to the initial Vegas odds favoring the PacMan. More than a few credible wild card inhabitants profess that Manny has never looked better... (see video above from MAX Boxing)
I see a Durable Diaz parallel, only this time now with Pac even more precise with his delivery in inflicting damage. This may possibly cut the number of rounds by a few.
Round 6 till 8 will be it for Clottey. PacMan by stoppage.

That's what I'm thinking too, Pac's movement should allow him to take advantage of the openings the others were not able to do. I think Pac will be stepping to the right a lot and firing straight lefts to get inside of the jousting move Clottey uses to make it work against him (Clottey). The obvious follow up are right hooks to the body while continuing to move to the right to get around the elbows.
Re: Pacquiao - Clottey: Who wins and how?
The real question here is wether manny is taking p..........ineapple juice because its supposed to be really good for you ;D! But yeah i see Manny getting a late round KO i dont see Josh putting up as much a fight as Miguel did, after seeing how Clottey acted when Miguel threw him down he just doesnt have the heart.
Re: Pacquiao - Clottey: Who wins and how?
The first two Pac will move in and out to test Clottey's range and willingness. Clottey will be determined to be more aggressive and not sit back as per what most people expect... maybe catch pac with a shot. at which point Pac will acknowledge by throw his arms up. Pac, unhurt, goes on the attack after that, moving in and out and winning any exchanges by and extra 2 punches. From there on Clottey will settle into his shell despite pleads from his corner. Pacquaio will wear down Clottey aside from a round off here or there. While I think Clottey's conditioning can take him to the end....Somewhere in the later rounds, 10 or 11, the refs seen enough and calls a stop while Pac's flailing away on the Clottey Caccoon. Clottey will protest.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Clottey hurts his hand again in this fight.
