How did they get that scoring?
I am totally confused, I saw Bernard win the first five rounds, but after that I saw him maybe win two or three of hte rounds. Roy was countering better, fighting on the inside better, and landing cleaner shots on the outside. I am not sure if Roy deserved to win, but he certainly didn't lose that badly. Also Bernard was being SUCH a pussy.
Re: How did they get that scoring?
I had it 117 - 111 Hopkins

Neither really did anything but BHOP did "more" to win the rounds..since its 10 point must...they all should have been scored 0-0 except for the point deduction which would give bhop the win 0 to -1....
Re: How did they get that scoring?
I didn't score it properly, but felt it was a clear Hopkins win. He got too far ahead early on with that repulsive 'hook, ram with the head, clinch' thing he does. There needs to be rules about charging in with the head down in boxing. It is repugnant. Jones Jr goes out with his held high IMO. He did what he could but everything seemed to be against him. Why doesn't anyone warn or take points away from Hopkins for his clinching? This SHOULDN'T be a part of boxing. Inside fighting is great, but blatant clinching is unnaceptable. It spoils fights and shouldn't be allowed.
Anyway, I thought Jones won the 5th (I think it was the 5th) and his share of the rounds down the stretch, so a Hopkins win but not by ridiculously wide margins. Hopkins should have lost a couple of points too.
Re: How did they get that scoring?
Roy won 3-4 rounds imo at the most.
Shit dirty fight.
I expected much better from my man X, serious let down by him tonight. :-\
Re: How did they get that scoring?
I am going to have to see it again, but even watching it streamed it was pretty good quality, and Roy was landing better punches. I think ineffective "aggression" shouldn't win rounds for Hopkins who wasn't landing in a lot of circumstances. I honesly believe that if they had counted punches for this fight that Roy would have landed more based on what I saw.

Agreed. Hopkins won more rounds clearly and won the fight.
But he should have been deducted at least two points for his blatent headbutts and hittin after the bell and acting his ass off.
Just disgraceful performances by both.
Re: How did they get that scoring?
Nazim hit the nail on the head in the corner when he said that Roy was only there to try to survive an say he went 12 rounds, I gave 1 round to Roy and that was the 5th or the 6th I believe.

Where you guys giving rounds to Hopkins just because? He wasn't landing the better punches in many of the rounds, and he wasn't bombarding Roy with punches ala Joe Calzaghe, and after the first 4 or 5 rounds Roy started hitting Hopkins with uppercuts on the inside pretty much everytime. Most of Bernard's combinations were just hitting Roy on the gloves and arms.

Yeah, Jones started to try and do some work on the inside after realising he was being completely nullified in the opening 4. A lot of good uppercuts were getting through. I also saw a fair few straight rights from Jones landing flush. The problem for Jones was also that he was just too gun shy. It reminded me of Jones/Tarver 3 a little in that sense. The fight was there to be won if he could have thrown a bit more because I just do not believe that Hopkins has the stamina to keep up. But those roughhouse tactics of Hopkins are just awful and can throw anyone off their game. Both guys look pretty done to me at this stage.
Re: How did they get that scoring?
I only gave Roy 2 rounds, he did seem like he was just trying to survive. Shit fight, the only positive thing that can be said is it wasn't as bad as their first one.

Well I am not sure there, with all the dirty stuff and Cirque du Soleil prowess by Hopkins, it was a show of an epic size WWE-wise.
Re: How did they get that scoring?
I haven't seen it yet, I crashed about 1am. What were the actual scores fellas?
Re: How did they get that scoring?
Haven't seen it and don't want to see it. They both fought each other when they were approaching their primes and Jones won with one hand. Hopkins has clearly aged the better of the 2 but had they fought the rematch in 2001 when they were originally going to Jones would have schooled him again. It was a farce of a fight from the moment it was signed and by the sounds of what i have read it was a terrible fight and all i hope to see Roy doing from now on is promoting or rapping or whatever he plans to do with the rest of his life as long as it doesn't involve being in the ring with people that were never good enough to even mention his name in his prime.

Loopsided decision for Hopkins 117-110, 117-110, 118-109 into a circus and foulfest of epic proportions.
