Starting a new weight loss program today...
UpDayDownDay Diet™ Plan – How to Succeed
The 'Up Day' 'Down Day' diet. I've read the whole book and there are some very interesting medical benefits to this diet, so I am going to give it a go.
Basically it involves, only having 500 calories every other day, and then just eating want you want (within reason) on the alternate days.
Being that my big problem is sustaining a weight loss program for a long period of time, because it's so restrictive, I'm hoping that this will be a good solution, as I will only, in effect, be restricted 50% of the time.
Sounds good on paper, I'll see how it goes.
Anybody familiar with this program?
Re: Starting a new weight loss program today...
no but sounds interesting
I could do with shedding 3/4 of a stone myself. Am not fat just my clothes aint fitting like they used to - the two weeks of indulgence in Turkey took its toll
I am usually really good during the week. Dont drink , eat chocolate, gorge food etc....
But Friday at 5pm (ish) i go into binge mode. Beer spirits, takeaway - then same Saturday. Sunday meal at parents with dessert to finish etc....
Then Monday good again :-\
I feel cheated if I dont have at least two takeaways Fri-Sunday :-\

I know exactly what you mean mate.
This one sounds good one paper, but I just reckon the 500 cal days will be so tuff, that it may not be sustainable :-\
Gotta do something though, I am in freefall again. Of the 7.5 stone I lost, I have put 5.5 back on :(
Re: Starting a new weight loss program today...
look at the positves you ain't put it all back on so less to lose ! ;)
i am no good with calories etc.. so have no idea what 500 covers
Re: Starting a new weight loss program today...
500 isnt a lot
i suppose you could have 3 salads in that day and a few drinks of water
Re: Starting a new weight loss program today...
A slimfast shake is 202 cals. So you can have 2.5 Slimfasts and nothing else. Or you could count calories, but 500 cals won't give you much food
Re: Starting a new weight loss program today...
i know this might be a bit patronising but isnt weight loss about eating less food than you burn?
you can still eat a lot of food and lose weight
preparing your own meals every meal will help reduce the calories, you can eat 3 normal meals a day or 6 small meals a day, make one big pot of food in a morning that you are gonna eat that day and then eat it when ever you want, use loads of green veg
and get to the gym, 40 minutes workout burns a meal
so if you are eating 3 meals equivalent and burning one then you should be losing weight

that dont work the same for everyone. All down to metabolism and person etc. Obviously you have no trouble keeping weight off

it does work the same for everyone
people say it is different for them are generally fat
burn more callories than you eat and you will lose weight
i dont have any trouble with my weight because i train 6 days a week, i have hardly any fat on me at the minute, i eat a lot of food too, i make most of my own meals but i do eat fast food curries burgers kebabs i drink beer (although not that often any more) chocolate

...and because you don't have an eating disorder.
I'm pretty sure I know more about how to lose weight than anybody else on here, but knowing what is the correct thing to do and being able to is not black and white for everybody.

Well, scientific logic dictates what you are saying, but it also excludes the proclivities of the human mind or the free time habits of many people.
What goes in should be less than what goes out is an obvious logic. However, some people drink too much or indulge in risky behaviour too. You could just say, 'cut it out', but there are other factors, often deeper factors involved.
I have been crass in the past about mental disorders and obese people, but really I don't belittle them. Everyone has their own obstacle and I guess this is Big H's one. I wish him well.

physically it works on the same principles for everyone, mentally people are different yes so no its not black and white for everyone, I appreciate that you have trouble
My reaction was to the diet you plan to do
it sounds pretty extreme and pretty daft and i would have said you (anyone) are destined to fail
i think rythm and structure is a key to success
I dont know anything about eating disorders so i dont know your issues, but if i was to give anyone any advice who had been dieting for years and was still fat it would be that controlling the food they eat clearly isnt working, try taking the callories off in other ways, exercize (obviously dont totally relax with what you eat, be careful just dont put too much pressure on)
you are obviously a boxing fan, go to a local boxing gym a couple of times a week and do a circuit for 45 minutes, you will be very suprised at how much better you feel, then hopefully that will lead to better things

Yeh it's good advice mate. I am usually quite fir and go to the gym 5-6 times per week. I haven't been for a few months and do need to sort that side out, but I still gain weight even when doing vigorous exercise, because I eat so much,
You are deffo right that 'Diet's don't work long term, but it's the short term that is also an issue, becuase when you are overweight, thinking about losing weight slowly and it taking a year is hard to get your head around. Also, the fact is I cannot sustain anything long term (apart from starvation, which I can)
Re: Starting a new weight loss program today...
yep - different for everyone. We all now people who exercise like fuck and are still walking lard arses. Its not easy and what works for one doesn't for another.
Kind of like me saying just drop your pants and expect a massive cock to drop out. It works for me because I have been blessed with one. But other people not so fortunate

honestly mate there arent many people around who do actually exercise like fuck and are fat, in fact i would say there are probably none
no doubt you eat more than me, i eat a lot of food tho and i havent got an inch of fat on me and thats coz i exercise so regulary, im not bragging its just the way things work
and imagine if you did exercise more you could be like me, a six pack and a big willy :)
