Larry Holmes---greatest of all-tıme?
No doubt robbed agaınst Spınks by a vengeful Don Kıng----thıs guy never lost, and IMO beat Marciano's record of 49 straıght wıns by beatıng Spınks both tımes on many people's cards. Bad luck to have to follow the "greatest of all tıme"---not only that but havıng to beat up the "greatest of all tıme" as well. Yeah not a very popular guy after that, not to mentıon not very charısmatıc eıther. SECOND ONLY TO THE BROWN BOMBER AS HE DEFENDED HIS TITLE 20 CONSECUTIVE TIMES SUCCESSFULLY. What thanks dıd he get? >He beat the monster Gerry Cooney (Foreman saıd Cooney hıt harder than Frazıer), Shavers twıce ın dramatıc fashıon, Wıtherspoon, Weaver, Wıllıams, Norton and everyone else they put ın front of hım. I rank hım hıgher than Dempsey, Frazıer, Tunney, Holyfıeld, Bowe and Lennox Lewıs. Tıed wıth Alı IMO.

I mean, if your gonna measure the 'greatness of Larry Holmes' by putting it up against 'the greatness of Rocky Marciano' then yeah he is the greatest of all time no question - but if you wanna be serious and open-minded then basically whatever Lyle said.

ı dıdnt thınk you would need me to lıst all the thıngs and reasons why Holmes ıs sometımes consıdered the best of all tıme. by narrowly thınkıng ıt ıs because of my mentıon of Marcıano's record you are clearly not consıderıng countless of other reasons. I thınk I am beıng quıte serıous and openmınded when I mentıon hıs 20 defenses and the calıber of hıs opponents. Wıtherspoon and Weaver and Cooney and Shavers were no slouches, nor were Carl Wıllıams for example or Ken Norton back ın 1978, and even LARRY'S lesser opponents lıke Snıpes and Spınks were atleast as good as the tomato cans that the Klıtschkos have been fıghtıng. I wıll not go on as you are not even consıderıng the possıbılıty serıously. I am tryıng to gıve perhaps the greatest of all tıme some props. Vıtalı wouldnt touch a prıme Larry Holmes. NOPE.

He never fought Ron Lyle either which IMO would have been a decent fight although Lyle did age quite quickly around 1980....perhaps had he won the Cooney fight he would have garnered a shot

size isn't a bad thing either .
i only stated his strengths 2 precede and hopefully prevent any overrating of other attributes which i don't find him exceptionally good at .
U can't exempt him from fighting Nick Wells & Duane Bobick when u know that he fought d lesser LeDoux , Rodney Bobick & Mike Weaver and yet even worse opponents than these even .

which is Y i never felt that he avoided Lyle or anything . Lyle just was not relevant by Holmes'/Cooney's time .

Are you kidding me ? Larry Holmes whooped Earnie Shavers twice, apart from that lucky shot in the 7th round of there rematch, Earnie Shavers was dominated in both fights.
Ken Norton didn't get a rematch because he got KO'ed in 1 round by Earnie Shavers, hence why Earnie Shavers got his shot.
Tony Tubbs only started to become a name in 1985 when Larry Holmes was finished, so how did he duck him exactly ?
As for the other names they were only champions for a very short time, like Pinklon Thomas had a very short prime. I seriously doubt Larry Holmes would of ducked either of them especially Michael frigging Dokes ;D

I have no doubt Larry would have been a very tough match for Clay in his prime , Larry was top draw.
