Bad luck to have to follow the "greatest of all tıme"---not only that but havıng to beat up the "greatest of all tıme" as well. Yeah not a very popular guy after that, not to mentıon not very charısmatıc eıther. SECOND ONLY TO THE BROWN BOMBER AS HE DEFENDED HIS TITLE 20 CONSECUTIVE TIMES SUCCESSFULLY. What thanks dıd he get? >He beat the monster Gerry Cooney (Foreman saıd Cooney hıt harder than Frazıer), Shavers twıce ın dramatıc fashıon, Wıtherspoon, Weaver, Wıllıams, Norton and everyone else they put ın front of hım. ı dıdnt thınk you would need me to lıst all the thıngs and reasons why Holmes ıs sometımes consıdered the best of all tıme. by narrowly thınkıng ıt ıs because of my mentıon of Marcıano's record you are clearly not consıderıng countless of other reasons. I thınk I am beıng quıte serıous and openmınded when I mentıon hıs 20 defenses and the calıber of hıs opponents. Wıtherspoon and Weaver and Cooney and Shavers were no slouches, nor were Carl Wıllıams for example or Ken Norton back ın 1978, and even LARRY'S lesser opponents lıke Snıpes and Spınks were atleast as good as the tomato cans that the Klıtschkos have been fıghtıng. Holmes was also stopped by d 1 year younger than himself Duane Bobick in d amateurs , and later avoided him in d pros and avenged his loss 2 him by beating Duane's younger and lesser brother , Rodney .

Okay 'dedication' is not necessarily a bad thing... You can probably go through the entire history of the heavyweight division and surmise that the reason why the majority of these champions succeed is because they champion the ethic of dedication.

Even fighters like Joe Louis, who was far more technically advanced than most of his opponents, came into the ring in better condition and better prepared to fight.

It's just a case of how dedicated a fighter can remain.

I mean to be honest I have Holmes as 3rd on my list (always have) but never the greatest.

Thumbing Shavers was also a way of avoiding fair fight .
Also no Pinklon Thomas , Michael Dokes & Tony Tubbs , and no rematches vs Carl Williams & Tim Witherspoon whom definitely deserved them .

U can't exempt him from fighting Nick Wells & Duane Bobick when u know that he fought d lesser LeDoux , Rodney Bobick & Mike Weaver and yet even worse opponents than these even .

Are you kidding me ? Larry Holmes whooped Earnie Shavers twice, apart from that lucky shot in the 7th round of there rematch, Earnie Shavers was dominated in both fights.

Ken Norton didn't get a rematch because he got KO'ed in 1 round by Earnie Shavers, hence why Earnie Shavers got his shot.

Tony Tubbs only started to become a name in 1985 when Larry Holmes was finished, so how did he duck him exactly ?

As for the other names they were only champions for a very short time, like Pinklon Thomas had a very short prime. I seriously doubt Larry Holmes would of ducked either of them especially Michael frigging Dokes
