Did the Froch beating scare Bute from fighting?
I just watched the Stevenson/Bellew fight, (Bellew didn't stand a chance from about the second round and it was a ko waiting to happen) and I saw Bute at ringside.
The LH division has become "Concussion City" as Lampley succinctly put it after Bellew was stopped from two Stevenson left hands. It has become more exciting at LH and Super-Middle, with skilled fighters and KO's almost in every other fight.
So, the question is: Since the Froch beating, Bute has been slated to fight Jean Pascal, another hard hitting Super-Middle/Light-Heavy (Haitian descent as Stevenson), for nearly a year now. The fight has been put off for several reasons or the other, IS Bute afraid to get back into the ring, at such a high level and against a dangerous opponent like Pascal, and has the Froch thrashing put enough fear in him to want to NOT fight at a high level again?
What say ye?
I always thought Bute was a little more hype than delivery. But, my personal feelings on him aside, he was a champion and had fought a few guys that one can say were good fighters.
My take on it is that he is scared to fight tough, big fighters and fighters. Froch put him out of it. The Pascal fight is still on, the last time I checked. Scheduled for January 18th, 2014, God's willing. So, we will have to see if Bute just had a terrible night vs. Froch, or if whether or not Bute really has hit a dead-end in his career and has peaked and has nothing else to give the sport.

I think Bute was over hyped and protected and just been exposed for an average world class fighter he is. Pascal should beat him.
Re: Did the Froch beating scare Bute from fighting?
Bute was all but knocked out in the first andrade fight. If it wasn't the final round andrade would have ko'd Bute. Bute did bounce back by fighting Grachev, after being tko'd by Froch. Now he'll face another hard puncher.
Re: Did the Froch beating scare Bute from fighting?
Steele should have waited in the Chavez/Taylor fight but the ref should have have called it in the first Bute/Andrade fight. So I guess it depends on the fighter and not the circumstances. What a crock of shit and we all know what happened in the second Andrade fight. He mentally fell apart in the Froch fight. Its the reason countless fighters dont travel.
Re: Did the Froch beating scare Bute from fighting?
Pascal thrashes Bute. Unless Pascal, overnight, forgot how to box.
Re: Did the Froch beating scare Bute from fighting?
Agreed! That beating turned a hoe into a bigger hoe, that's how I see it. I say this because Bute made a championship career out of beating bums and C level oppositions in his backyward..
After winning the vacant title against C level Berrios, he defended it against nothing but tomato cans and guys who just didnt belong in the ring with him..
People complain how Ward gets hometown advantage?! Take a look at this guy Bute's resume and see where he's fought. At least Ward fought the best available..
I used to get into alot with the Butetards when I was at ESB cuz I always told them the same thing, that Bute is a pampered fighter and he'll get knocked out by the first elite fighter he faces then bamm, Froch proves me right..
BUte is a B level fighter at best..

Re: Did the Froch beating scare Bute from fighting?
I don't buy all this shit about Lucian being protected, at least no more than any other "local" star. He fought purely in his backyard, but it's not like they were handing him complete stiffs or giving him home-cooked decisions like certain European fighters. Sakio Bika, Andrade twice (if he was so protected, why would they put him in there again with the guy who nearly knocked him out?), Edison Miranda (one of the biggest bombers at 168 at the time), Mendy, Glen Johnson... these were tough, high ranking guys, and he mostly won in dominant, impressive fashion. And if he was so protected, why would he ever agree to fight Froch in his backyard?
He fought in Canada exclusively simply because he draws a huge crowd in Quebec and makes a lot more money, as opposed to the US where he had a fraction of the following. So give the guy some credit.
That being said, I think the Froch fight really fucked him up. Froch beat him up. It was an embarrassing, emasculating beatdown. That's a hard one to come back from.
Re: Did the Froch beating scare Bute from fighting?
The Froch beating clearly did not scare Bute from fighting. Bute went on to fight Grachev who is a big puncher in his very next fight.
The more relevant question is would a win over Pascal redeem Bute?
Re: Did the Froch beating scare Bute from fighting?
the bute situation is weird because he was thought so highly of. everybody thought that bute and ward were the best 168 pounders in the world and needed to fight. once froch destroyed bute, everybody pretty much forgot about him. i still think that he is a good fighter but just not great. i think pascal will win because he has a great chin, has a decent punch and has decent speed. i think that he will eventually catch bute. most people already knew that bute had a weak chin before the froch fight.
Re: Did the Froch beating scare Bute from fighting?
I think Bute still has a lot to offer personally. After seeing Froch Groves he'll potentially fancy that rematch more. I'd like to see him make a statement and beat Pascal, that would shake things up again. He still has very good boxing skills and the punch power to trouble anyone at 168 atleast. I guess we'll see.....
Re: Did the Froch beating scare Bute from fighting?
No I don't think so. I think Bute is scared of fighting Froch again and is waiting for his decline before exercising a rematch clause. Bute is pretty skilled and has decent wins on his ledger against other big punchers. I think Pascal will beat him though and who knows how he'll be after that?

Have to agree. Bute has to defeat Pascal to stay relevant, in my opinion.
Crossroads fight for both:-\
