Sauerland sign George Groves

I thought hed sign for one of the US promoters but this may be a smart move for him. I mean if he loses to Froch, signing for Sauerland opens up a title shot with Abraham. Also if he decideds to move up he has an easier world title shot against Braehmer.
One thing is certain, George Groves cannot stand Eddie Hearn and thinks he is a con man. ha ha. I thought he might have gone with GBP, but Sauerland seem to be able to do deals with Matchroom and promoters in the States , so I suppose it's the best of both Worlds , not a bad move. Depends what his motive is ...World titles or Cash? If he signed with Hearn , These Brit fighters seem to make pot loads of dough without really doing anything at world level. It's refreshing that it's not just about that.
Groves is a very clever fella, opens lots of new doors and still keeps the old ones ajar.
He's not expecting to beat Froch then. If he isn't signed with Matchroom he isn't getting on Sky PPV and if he beats Froch he'd be able to coin it on Sky PPV with a Froch rematch, De Gale, Kessler etc.

For Sauerland:
If he beats Froch
1. he can unify belts with Abraham
2. he can fight Kessler
3. He can fight Froch and get the Lion's share on his terms (if Froch wanted it,which I doubt)
All of those options give him as much money if not more than Sky PPV.
IF he loses to Froch
1. He can get a title shot at Abraham (winnable)
2. Still a chance of a lucrative fight with Kessler
For Matchroom:
If he beats Froch
1. Possible rematch with Froch if he wants it and although he'll get more , it won't be the 85-15 split that we're talking about for this fight. Froch just wouldn't bother and who can blame him.
2. He defends against Degale. Big deal! He does ok, Degale gets peanuts, main beneficiary- Matchroom!
If he loses to Froch
1. Get to the back of the queue and work your way back up.

Haye is a Matchroom fighter. He had to sign a deal with Matchroom -- despite having promoted himself (Hayemaker) on Setanta and Sky PPVs in the past -- to get the Fury fight on Sky PPV.Quote:

For years previous to this Haye and Booth talked about how carefully they'd managed his career and that he'd been paid his full value in every fight he'd been in for pther promoters and that as soon as he could he took control of his own career and had shown that self-promoted fighters could win a world heavyweight title and become PPV attractions in their own rights without needing a promoter to take a huge chunk of their earnings.
Then he goes and signs with Matchroom despite having done previous successful PPVs on Sky and Setanta with his own promotional company.
Matchroom have so much control over the boxing shown on Sky that they can dictate whether Sky show somebody or not. Whether this control will extend to nixing Groves from PPV if he wins the biggest fight ever held in Britain is another thing but Groves certainly can't be 100% sure in his mind right now that he'll still be on Sky if he beats Froch. Not least because he's signed to Sauerland and they have an exclusive agreement with Box Nation. Maybe that agreement doesn't extend to Groves, lots of maybes, but even if Groves isn't contractually prevented from doing a deal with Sky maybe Matchroom can nix it if they don't promote him.
After he gets whipped by Froch again he won't be worth dick.

Saurland obviously want to make inroads into the UK with the signing of Price and now Groves. Its an interesting move but I think if he wanted to become big abroad it was best if he avoided Matchroom, sure they pay well if you're on top but I don't like their alliance with Sky and some of the bullshit they come out with.
That's Smith going over to Germany as an opponent for the house fighter. It's like they did a deal for Rees to go to America and fight Broner.Quote:

Matchroom aren't going to want to give up excusivity on Sky for big fights because it affects their future profits.
Look at Anthony Joshua. Let's say that he develops into an exciting knockout TV fighter, wins a world title, becomes a big PPV attraction and goes on to have the career of a Lennox Lewis or an Audley Harrison.
At various points in that career his contract will be up. If he's seen Groves walk away from Matchroom and still get on Sky PPV it gives him far more negotiating room with Matchroom when it comes to new contracts if Matchroom can't block him from Sky PPV if he doesn't sign with them. Same goes for any other Matchroom fighters that become big attractions.
Matchroom have obviously used their leverage with Sky to force Haye to sign up with them. Haye never had more than a fight by fight deal with any promoter from his first fight, promoted himself as early as he could and then basically signed away the rest of his career to Matchroom so that he could get on Sky PPV.
Matchroom will do everything they can to keep Groves off Sky should he win. If the fight turns into another Hagler Hearns and Groves sparks Froch in a few rounds it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out. Imagine if Sauerland offer Sky Groves-Kessler followed by Groves-Abraham in two London stadium fights. Are Sky going to turn it down or do they actually have a complete exclusivity agreement with Matchroom?
