A few ideas on fast hands and posture

the second one looks a lot like what I had in mind when I asked punching "downhill" to Phil Campbell. I like it! ;)
to re-cap for the gyus that missed my thread, he said 10% overload and 10% overspeed is optimal for achieving speed.
One point of interest, the guy on the elastic hand exercise is 6 ft 9 ins and 18st 4 llbs. the little fellow on the headband is 6ft 5 ins and 17 st 2 llbs.
The little fellow? :P
I thought I was fairly big at 6 foot and 13 and a half stone :P
6ft 9... bloody hell scrap... :P
Adam hes not as big as the other guy hence the name shorty, and Im 6ft 3 they call me tiny, besides other things
ahaha amonsgt other things :P
So basically I'm a short arse? ;)
Diamonds dont come in large containers
I'm 6' even. 8)
;D
We had a lad at teh gym once who would of been maybe even over 6 9"
Long jab johnny (or something ;)) we used to call him... one of the juniors ws as tall as him at 15 :o used to step over all of the ropes when he got in the ring...
good lads to spar with... really hard getting past their jab and they're not afriad to lead off like some other people are.
scrap can you explain the elastic hand one is the band supposed to pull your hands?
Yes it does the further you go back the more resistance you create, plus it activates the feet a lot better. Makes you move the front foot and creates better posture, plus it teaches you to box off the back foot, and you get better laterell movement
...and it can be done with resistance bands?
Not really, you want 15 mll elastic rope, sailing shops sell it. You want 4 metres of it cut it in half so you have 2 2 metre lengths one put loops either end and a small one in the middle the other put loops in either end. Then clip the middle loop on the end of the other with a snap link and the other over the ring cost 8 qiud away you go
sharla
I also found that if you imagine that your trying to "steal" the punch it works really well.....what I mean is you need to act like whenever you throw a punch you need to react like like your trying to take something off the person's face and the person you're trying to hit is going to grab your fist. So, instead of him grabbing your hand you throw the punch and pull it back with the quickness.......another thing is to throw your punches completely relaxed..keep your hands in a very loose fist if not almost completely open...do this whenever you're shadowboxing or if you can have someone hold the mitts while you practice.Quote:

This is an excellent vid thanks Scrap and those guys look pretty fast considering their size so I'll believe it works :)
I'm happy and impressed despite the fact that I'm DEFINATELY having a short day now :)
sorry this might sound stupid but why is the elastic pulling the hands out rather than them pushing the elastic out to add resistance? I would have thought he would have been shadow boxing the other way around.
Reaction througth touch and feel, the two main components in your body for speed. The first 3 inch of any movement will tell you how fast that motion will be the first guy is working on oral stability which gives speed. The second on recoil and speed of hand after. It all depends on the first 3 inch for technique the thought if you like once triggered it wont be changed unless its a con its still the thought.
thanks mate, will have to go buy myself some of that elastic rope then :)
Do the bands maybe work on 2 levels Scrap - one for the speed and also to force you to ground your foot with your punch?
Last night my brother was trying to highlight why my right hand felt powerless when moving foreward with parallel movement (throwing left hand with left step and right hand with right step) unlike diagonal movement (left hand with right step and vice versa)  - not sure if there are other names for that elsewhere.
He put his hand under my right foot only just above the ground and told me to throw a jab cross combo on the spot and feel the difference compared to with my foot planted. When my foot wasn't planted and was floating all over the place - no power. I guess people have explained this to me a bit before but I don't think I understood the implications of that while moving foreward one hundred percent before.
I guess when I've been using the bands I probably haven't been using them under enough tension to feel this and would always need to have the band tight enough to feel an obvious pull for it to work properly.
Does that kinda make sense?
completly
All good thanks for the confirmation CC Scrap :) I've been taught parallel movement in my current gym as if when using it if i can't get power in the cross I'm doing something wrong - somehow failing to twist my shoulders through enough - so while I could still be doing something wrong it's nice to know it's not 100 % my fault!
Ok Thanks for the Video,Peace.
I wanna see them big guys shadow box like that for half hour straight. Let's see if they can maintain that pace.
I'm marking this thread and I'll get onto it later
With a statement like that Pac it shows me you havent got a clue.
As regards Boxing not really, makes your anarobic system work better speed in relation to movement it Helps but there are better ways to incorperate fast twitch fibres response. Througth a method of touch response and stretch
I might have maxed out my free info quota recently already but I was wondering what sort of things you do to train touch response?
Are specific drills where you say train a counter or a block in partner work or on the pads classified as touch response exercises?
No its something that makes that and everything that applies to what youre talking about easier.
One day my brain is going to overheat trying to nut out these little hints ;D
I guess having to partially work it out myself could be more beneficial for me and my understanding of it in the long run.
Thanks for the response Scrap - I'll have to ruminate on it for a while and see if I can get an idea of what it is.
I'm guessing it has something to do with what Floyd Mayweather was working on with the pad work he was doing which most people thought was pointless show off stuff.
One other Q just to clarify this in my head. When you say touch and feel it seems you are talking about two different things but you are 'reacting' to touch and feel.
So wouldn't touch and feel really be one thing? I mean I'm thinking of touch as being an action but if you react to it you must be sensing something to react to so is it really just feel?
So if you're reacting to 'touch and feel' - you are reacting to what you feel when you touch something - whether it the contact with your opponent or the ground at various positions and angles under your feet depending on your stance and posture?
So would touch and feel really be balance and distancing between you and your opponent?
Thats part of it, how do you feel today ;D
OK so it is more complicated than I thought!
I guess I've never really thought of that kind of 'feeling' to be trainable except for perhaps training in a way which allows maximum recovery while still challenging your body enough to make fitness gains.
I guess it kinda makes sense that over-training might mess with your prioreception the same way that feeling a bit sick or tired will. I mean I always walk into things when I'm tired. ;D
So I guess that might be an added thing to consider on top of any muscle tightnesses, imbalances etc?
Is there something else to it that I haven't clicked on to yet though?
Im as busy as Hell at the moment Shala, when things settle Ill pm you and explain it in detail we will talk.
Thanks Scrap :)
That'll be awesome!
