***Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!*** (Presser Included & Weigh In pictures)
According to Zab Judah the fight is a done deal, Madison Square Garden June 9th. I'm baffled by this, how the heck has Zab pulled this one?
http://boxingtalk.com/pag/article11294.html
*I changed the title to suit the thread a little better. :)

Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o
IF Boxingtalk mess this up giving away fake news I will sue them
-
Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
Presuming he doesn't overlook Cordona I guess :-\
I'm a bit suprised by Zab though, I mean coming off back to back losses you would think he'd go after a couple easy paydays and work his way back to a title before going after Cotto.
Another tough fight for Zab.
-
Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
oh no!!!!! Zab got a bigger fight signed behind this one!!! lol so I guess that means Zab is gonna lose on ESPN right ???
Dont mess this up zab!!!!
-
Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
A tough fight for cotto as well Bilbo
-
Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
;D I like the match up, good work by Zab's promo, they got him right back in the saddle and this one should pull a lot of fans in and do big numbers at MSG, it'll be Brooklynites vs the New Yoricuns! I think Puerto Rico will be the happiest on the night though.

Yes definitely but with losses to Tyszu, Spinks, Baldimor and Mayweather from his last 10 opponents you'd think Zab would want to get a financial cushion with a few easy fights before he risks becoming the next Fernando Vargas especially seeing as he is said to be short of money.
If he loses, where does he go from there really?

Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
I don't know man!!!
For the most part I/m thinking WHY in the HELL is Cotto wasting his time with Zab hes a nobody and beating him means nothing.
I won't be surprised cause I know Cotto can beat him with flying colors.....
Bad decision IMO from team Cotto thats IF this is true....
-
Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
Well style makes fights for a boxer to win or to lose Judah style is very akward for Cotto IMO
When Cotto beats Zab that will be his entry key to elite level. For what I watched in the video I posted above you can tell it's going to be a great fight.
-
Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
a HUGE step backwards IMO.....
And to be honest Zab to me is slowly becoming Tyson (post-Holyfield I) in the sense that people are willing to see him fight and see if he can get his hands on the titles again and or win.... Cause you know he has a chance at wining but you also know he can loose.
You wanna know something funny?
BoxRec has Cotto vs. Williams ..... ???

I wouldn't call Zab a nobody, he definitely has talent but his record in big fights is pretty poor, 1 win 3 losses not counting Baldimor.
You'd have to have him as the underdog against Cotto albiet in my opinion a live one.
But if he loses, whats left for him? A trilogy with Cory Spinks?
Spinks doesn't even make the televised undercard on Showtime!

I guess after this fight Cotto can look for either Paul Williams, Antonio Margarito or Shane Mosley. Too bad Floyd is retiring because I really wanted to see Cotto vs Mayweather Jr.
Maybe Floyd comes out of retirement due to pressure or need to prove himself what ever and fight Cotto :) who will still be young and waiting.

Since Margo is fighting Williams , PBf fighting Oscar, Mosly is an option but you know how GBP and Top Rank are a bunch of whining bitches who else is there to fight?

With Hatton fighting Castillo, Margarito seemingly fighting P.Williams, And Mayweather fighting DLH, Mosley too soon to negotiate with, who else is there to fight? Cotto can make a huge payday fighting Judah, and HBO will be happy because the fight is definatly going to be explosive. It's not hard to see why they made the fight.

IMO, this a HIGH RISK, low reward fight for Cotto and if his team is smart enough they will not allow him to fight that fight..........
It will mean nothing......
It will just sign, seal and deliver something that I said right after the Baldomir fight.....
Zab is a hasbeen.....
All Cotto will be doing is something that Spink, Baldomir & PBF already did.....
What will it prove that Cotto can beat hasbeens?
On the other hand if he fights anyone of the top Welters. Margarito, SSM, PBF (If he continues to fight), Cintron, Williams the fight will mean something positive for him.... IMO
-
Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
Well Majesty I put it so people can see what Cotto might be up against I said might because you know how unstable Zab is mentally

Ummmmmm!!!!
SSM would have been a BIGGER sell and a better fight IMO.....
2 fighters that win.....
Not 1 fighter that wins and the other that loses.....

Agreed.
I think he might have a little trouble early, but Cotto wins big in this one.

You do got a very logical point there
question?
If Cotto blow this guy aroung 10 or less rounds what will be said about Cotto?
then will the fight be compare how Zab did against PBF and Zab vs Cotto?
and give more credit to him (Cotto)
-
Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
I think this is a good match up, more for Cotto to lose and a lot for Judah to make up...
If Judah can perform as he did against Mayweather then he will give Cotto fits..
A fight that could go either way for me....

Yeah man, but you gotta lot of Puerto Ricans and a lot of Brooklynites who will wanna go. I'd prefer it to be sugar shane too but from a $ point of view its not hard to see why they made it. It's gonna be exciting.

Are you serious man?? Not everyone shares your mindset you know.. Beating Zab would mean nothing?? If that's the case then why are we even talking about Cotto now, his whole career has been nothing. Judah's a very talented fighter, and would be a VERY good win for Cotto. He is clearly the best fighter Cotto has ever fought. Argue that, if you feel like humouring me. He will have 0 naysayers if he can perform well and beat Judah, and it will draw a huge crowd at MSG. The only thing I really agree with is that its a high risk fight for Cotto. Im not even sure who I favour to be honest. Sure Zabs lost most of his big fights but Cotto hasn't really had any, and he's also had his chin checked.. Very interesting and great matchup imo, don't see why anyone can frown upon this fight being made.. There's noone else for Cotto at the moment except maybe Mosley, and now THAT is a fight his team shouldn't make just yet..
-
Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
i think it'll be a great fight to watch,
zab imo is the most gifted fighter today but yet he lacks deciplen and thats his downfall.
as for cotto, his the best young undefeated fighter right now, zab is a great test for cotto.
if zab gets a win over cotto that would be huge, zab would be right back in the mix and that rematch with pbf i've been hoping for can possibly happen. hopefully zab gets his self straighten out, if he does he can beat anyone out there imo.

I think you're selling this fight short by saying that a Cotto win would prove nothing.
The type of fighter that Cotto is... this type of fighter is usually most bothered by fast fighters who want to fight on the outside.
If Cotto catches Judah with a big punch and KO's him, then maybe that doesn't prove much, because everyone already knows that Judah has a suspect chin.
But if Cotto can go in there and outbox Judah, negate his speed, win the vast majority of the rounds... then that would prove something significant. If Cotto can outbox Judah from the opening bell in addition to overpowering him, then that proves a lot.
I personally think that if Cotto can show he's not bothered by Judah's speed, that would prove just as much, maybe even more, than a win over Antonio "Slow Motion" Margarito would have.

Everyone already knows Danny G's agenda, it doesn't matter what happens he looks just as dumb either way. I think Mick is just underrating Judah's chances.. People won't "go at him" about it though.

Yep more a less sums it up. I was thinking as soon as i saw Judah mentioned that this is not an easy fight, if Zab comes in focused then he could win this. Im going with Cotto, but i ain't gona totally right Zab out.

The title of this fight should be "It takes 2 to Tango"......one guy to throw a punch and Zab Judah to get his groove on

I gotta disagree here bro. Zab is a tough fight for anyone in the division and this is actually a very dangerous fight for Cotto. Za better be in top shape though cause Cotto is gonna be looking to find out early. Great fight. Not to mention Zab is from Brooklyn so that's gonna make this thing huge in NYC and the Garden. I love it.

If Cotto beats Zab, I won't be surprised......
Hes been beat by Baldomir come on......
All we will have is a WHOLE bunch of people making the same kind of excuses they made for him when he lost to Spinks, when he lost to Baldomir & when he lost to PBF.......
When Cotto beats Zab, people will say that Cotto doesn't have the speed to beat PBF and IF Zab Judah lands ANY TYPE of big punch...... Everyone will hang on to that and say IF Zab was able to land on Cotto but because Zab isn't PBF and doesn't have the focus you can't compare that..... and blah! blah! blah!!
Thats why I say it will mean nothing..... Trust me....

I'm DEAD serious....
I know not everyone shares my mindset, thats why we can all post our own comments....
You say Cottos whole career has been nothing? You do realise hes a 2 division Champ. whos undefeated? I know for a fact Zabs fought the better opposition in the ring but hes failed against THAT best opposition...... And he will again.
How can fighting a guy whos lost 2 fights back to back be a good thing for a fighter like Cotto? I can see what some people are saying about the match up in the ring as far as Zabs, speed, power vs. Cottos, power, body attack but thats it.... As I said HIGH RISK, low reward..... What will beating a guy who been beat back to back prove for Cottos career.....
All people will say is the same shit! over and over.....
"If the Zab that fought..... Would have fought Cotto Zab would have won"
"Zab lost focus after the 3rd. round IF he would have stayed focused he would have won easily"
LMAO!!! when people make these kind of statements..... (I'm not saying you make them)
I hope that team Cotto really know what they are doing, I would just wish that NO champ. out there would give Zab the satisfaction of fighting for a title until hes earned it.... Losing twice (back to back) then coming back and beating Israel Cardona (Who the fwock is this) and getting a title shot! is just absurd....... IMO....

SweatPea,
I've had my share of debates with a lot of Zab fans and for the most part all they have is 'Lack of Focus' excuses and 'Versions of Zab' whatever that means.....
As I said I no longer think Zabs chin is supect, to me it's as GUILTY as it could be of being made out of 'glass'

Wrong!!! Cause you'll still have people saying that it was Zab who lost the fight due to his lack of focus, trust me some excuse will arise somehow....

Well like I said I can see what people mean as far as the styles, but whats the reward for Cotto as far as his career goes?
That he can beat Zab??? When people look at his record they'll just say he fought Zab on the downfall after he had already been beaten by Baldomir & PBF...... At least Margarito hasn't lost and is a Champ. what does Zab bring to the table? Well, then again maybe the IBF will jump allover this and strip Cintron and throw the title in there for the fight?
-
Re: ***Done Deal - Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah June 9th!***
Wow, shit I've been out of the loop lately, I had no idea they were even talking about this.
As big an idiot as Judah is, this is Cotto's step up fight, Cotto's never fought the elite guys like Zab has.
I think its an interesting fight, if you look at when Cotto's been in trouble in fights its when he's had to come forward, sometimes he's gotten reckless. The thing is, if Judah can't get to a guy early, if a pressure fighter keeps on coming after four or five rounds he starts to quit mentally and just fades, if he does that in this fight he won't go 12.

Well who cares if there are some irrational Zab fans who will still be making excuses??? There are still Mike tyson fans out there who think he can be heavyweight champ, doesn't mean you have to pay attention to them....
I think there are plenty of people (including myself) who can see a scenario where Judah is effective early on and uses his speed to give Cotto some problems. If this doesn't happen, and Cotto outboxes him from the start, that proves something, I don't care if Judah fans will make excuses or not. The rational boxing fans will realize that Cotto has proven something.

What would the reward be if he beat Cintron? There is nothing special that Cintron brings to the table. Same goes for Margarito. Margarito may deserve a higher ranking than Judah right now, I won't argue that, but he's a slow body puncher. He's not going to beat Cotto with that style, everyone knows that.
We don't know whether Cotto can handle a guy with elite hand speed, which is something Judah brings to table.
