Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
Should undefeated WBA super featherweight champion Edwin Valero successfully defend his title against No.2 ranked former OPBF champion Nobuhito Honmo in a triple world title fight card in Tokyo on May 3, a unification title fight against newly crowned WBC champion Juan Manuel Marquez may take place and once again effectively preventing Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao from facing the most exciting fighters in megabuck showdowns.
If this fight comes off,I choose JMM via KO to win but Valero WILL drop him at some point.
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
Valero is a guy I like. He goes for the KO. I mean that's all he does. Hands all the way apart and most of the time halfway down his stomach. Rarely goes to the body. Loads up on every punch. Just a balls to the wall type of guy. But to his credit he has very good timing. He's incredibly active in punching while still managing to throw meaningful blows. Actually a pretty good situational puncher, always throws the right punch when he has to. He fights well in that "in between zone", not so much the outside and not so much the inside. Valero also has a tremendous punch arsenal and works equally well with straights, hooks and uppercuts. And for the most part he knows when to throw those punches. He can open up with any of those and all are long punches and allow him to keep range. Actually a pretty good situational puncher, always throws the right punch when he has to. Good example of this being in the 6th round versus Mosquera how he opened up his punches at different times against Mosquera. Mosquera gave a lot of different looks defensively. He tried to square up and keep his hands in front of his face a couple times in which Valero hooked around with the right and then followed to the body. Then seconds later Mosquera would go into more of a conventional stance with the left and Valero would punch over the jab with his left. Very impressed at his awareness on the offensive side of things.
Awesome offensive fighter. No defense. I think JMM gets hit flush a few times, maybe even dropped like you said but ultimately he's a sharp crisp counter puncher who should beat Valero handily imo. You never know though. Valero has great heart and a pretty good chin considering the amount of times Mosquera hit him flush.
I think Valero matches better with Pacquiao then he does JMM.

Too slow, too old, too experienced... = JMM
That said, Valero has too much intensity, youth, belief, poise, and power for JMM.
Edwin, by TKO. Possibly brutal KO.
You can say Pacman is the same, but better, BUT I say differently, Valero is a different kind of Monster.
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
Just watched Edwin Valero vs Genaro Trazancos on Youtube.
Ive never seen Valero fight before but he does look a lot like Pac when he fights (albiet a bit slower, bit more brooding), especially the way he just lines up that straight left time and time again.
Straight KO merchant, i think JMM has already shown he's too wise for that kind of a fighter.... Would still be a great fight though.
Pac v Valero would be brutal!!
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
JMM would shoot strait punches right between Valeros wide bombs and beat him to the punch all day. Pac thows much more compact punches than Valero. I think JMM would win a wide decision and there would be knockdowns from both guys.
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
jmm would ko valero.. valero never fought a caliber of jmm or any top superfeatherweight.. hes not proven.. all we saw of him is his online clips.. other than that we dont even know who his opponents except one...his wild style will be an easy meal for jmm
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
JMM vs Valero would be an exciting fight. Both of them world champions fighting each other. The winner must (should) fight Pacquaio.
I go for Valero because of his knockout power.
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
It's impossible to say either side would win simply because we haven't seen enough of Valero.
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
I hope he miss his target ;)

In a play of probabilities, JMM will definitely be hit at least once by VAlero if they happen to meet each other in the ring (which is highly probable). That is one thing that JMM should consider. Can he take the punch(es) of Valero? Using the same proposition, I go for Valero (TKO before 6th round).

hmmmm...well Valero is inexperienced but I have nearly all his fights plus quite a few of his now mythological sparring sessions. So that means I've seen quite alot of him and I'd say he does well for a few rounds before being taken out late. He's too crude for such a technically refined boxer as JMM.
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
I'll take JMM by a wide UD. I think he'll defuse valero, as much as i like valero
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
Well he can target JMM all he want's. I suggest he backs off as much as I like the kid Valero & JMM are worlds apart.....
Valero needs to sharpen his skills up a bit and work on his movements IMO at times I find repeating the same things over he needs some movement.....
Would make for a interesting match up next year or so but not now IMO.
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
this is how i describe jmm in comparison to valero.jmm is like a well tuned sports car and valero is just a damn muscle car...

Agreed! He is always in awsome shape

cc mate.
I don't really know why these guys are writing off Valero and sticking with the old man.
Valero's a champion, a belt holder, he won it in the ring,
like a real champ he endured punishment and won by TKO.
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
Valero, Mike Anchando and Pone De Leon are all buddies and have trained together. Mike is a friend of mine and tells me that Valero has incredible stamina... even greater than Ponce who is a human machine. If so, that could weigh heavily on his opponents.

sometimes, looks are deceiving. Valero's ability to knock his opponents during first rounds means he has enough power to last 12 rounds.
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
hmm.. how lucky is it for valero if marquez accepts his challenge. actually, because of this guys bad MRI result, it is almost predictable that the probability of his boxing career will be too short for his own good; and so this guy wants to get on top and get rich as fast as he can. But in reality his resume doesn't warrant him to challenge one of the best at least for now. But the thing is, it's still golden boy's plan that will prevail and basing from the reaction of GBP Vs. Top rank legal case it is as if even marquez wants to fight pac, ODLH won't allow it even if that is where more money is. Valero's record breaking consecutive 1st round knockout doesn't qualify him. But just to keep marquez busy while GBP is trying so hard to win Manny's case. Maybe a fight could workout. afterall,we've known marquez career to sometimes be going in a weird direction. Remember him fighting the journeyman chris john from indonesia for a mere $40k instead of the mega fight against pacman that would guarantee him millions. He then fought that unknown boxer and mind you he's the one who visited that guy as if he's a big name to beat,an eager challenger and a large pay up is coming. So i'd say if marquez accepts valero's offer it's no surprising at all basing from the dumb person around him who submissively he is allowing them to influence all the decisions in his potentially great great boxing career and so.. that would make him....hmm you're right DUMb as well. . ;D ;D
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
i thnk the only way valero he can win ko which he can now he'll also put a lot of presssure on him stamina good
valero has face weak opponents compare to jmm valero dnt keep hid hands up and jmm can make him pay i think jaca give valero a handful
but is he ready for jmm technical skills
if they fight in the fall jmm 70% leaning
if they fight in middle 08 or 09 valero 4 sure
fight later valero ko 10
Re: Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify
i think valero is the most overatted fighter today, he holds a belt yea but the top fighters would all whoop him.
guzman will whoop him.
jmm would toy with him.
pac would murder him.
i doubt valero can even win a round against jmm, he must be thinking he can knock out jmm since jmm was drop by mab in his last fight. it would be a mismatch either one of the real top fighters would brutaly expose OVERATED valero.
