Default Edwin Valero Targets Juan M. Marquez To Unify

Should undefeated WBA super featherweight champion Edwin Valero successfully defend his title against No.2 ranked former OPBF champion Nobuhito Honmo in a triple world title fight card in Tokyo on May 3, a unification title fight against newly crowned WBC champion Juan Manuel Marquez may take place and once again effectively preventing Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao from facing the most exciting fighters in megabuck showdowns.

If this fight comes off,I choose JMM via KO to win but Valero WILL drop him at some point.

Valero is a guy I like. He goes for the KO. I mean that's all he does. Hands all the way apart and most of the time halfway down his stomach. Rarely goes to the body. Loads up on every punch. Just a balls to the wall type of guy. But to his credit he has very good timing. He's incredibly active in punching while still managing to throw meaningful blows. Actually a pretty good situational puncher, always throws the right punch when he has to. He fights well in that "in between zone", not so much the outside and not so much the inside. Valero also has a tremendous punch arsenal and works equally well with straights, hooks and uppercuts. And for the most part he knows when to throw those punches. He can open up with any of those and all are long punches and allow him to keep range. Actually a pretty good situational puncher, always throws the right punch when he has to. Good example of this being in the 6th round versus Mosquera how he opened up his punches at different times against Mosquera. Mosquera gave a lot of different looks defensively. He tried to square up and keep his hands in front of his face a couple times in which Valero hooked around with the right and then followed to the body. Then seconds later Mosquera would go into more of a conventional stance with the left and Valero would punch over the jab with his left. Very impressed at his awareness on the offensive side of things.

Awesome offensive fighter. No defense. I think JMM gets hit flush a few times, maybe even dropped like you said but ultimately he's a sharp crisp counter puncher who should beat Valero handily imo. You never know though. Valero has great heart and a pretty good chin considering the amount of times Mosquera hit him flush.

I think Valero matches better with Pacquiao then he does JMM.

Too slow, too old, too experienced... = JMM

That said, Valero has too much intensity, youth, belief, poise, and power for JMM.

Edwin, by TKO. Possibly brutal KO.

You can say Pacman is the same, but better, BUT I say differently, Valero is a different kind of Monster.

Just watched Edwin Valero vs Genaro Trazancos on Youtube.

Ive never seen Valero fight before but he does look a lot like Pac when he fights (albiet a bit slower, bit more brooding), especially the way he just lines up that straight left time and time again.

Straight KO merchant, i think JMM has already shown he's too wise for that kind of a fighter.... Would still be a great fight though.

Pac v Valero would be brutal!!

JMM would shoot strait punches right between Valeros wide bombs and beat him to the punch all day. Pac thows much more compact punches than Valero. I think JMM would win a wide decision and there would be knockdowns from both guys.

JMM vs Valero would be an exciting fight. Both of them world champions fighting each other. The winner must (should) fight Pacquaio.

I go for Valero because of his knockout power.

It's impossible to say either side would win simply because we haven't seen enough of Valero.

In a play of probabilities, JMM will definitely be hit at least once by VAlero if they happen to meet each other in the ring (which is highly probable). That is one thing that JMM should consider. Can he take the punch(es) of Valero? Using the same proposition, I go for Valero (TKO before 6th round).

hmmmm...well Valero is inexperienced but I have nearly all his fights plus quite a few of his now mythological sparring sessions. So that means I've seen quite alot of him and I'd say he does well for a few rounds before being taken out late. He's too crude for such a technically refined boxer as JMM.

I'll take JMM by a wide UD. I think he'll defuse valero, as much as i like valero

Well he can target JMM all he want's. I suggest he backs off as much as I like the kid Valero & JMM are worlds apart.....
Valero needs to sharpen his skills up a bit and work on his movements IMO at times I find repeating the same things over he needs some movement.....

Would make for a interesting match up next year or so but not now IMO.

Agreed! He is always in awsome shape
