If floyd goes to 160.....
don't you think he should he should fight Jermaine Taylor instead of Trinidad?? Just seems like a more competive fight.

Same old story. He'd make more money fighting trinidad and have a lot less chance of getting beat. Why risk losing for less money?
I dont agree with that thinking but its what so many boxers do nowadays.

Welcome to the forum.
Have the Obligatory Wacko Welcome Wagon :coolclick:
Good question...double edged sword factor.
He fights Tito he beat another world champ & SUPERSTAR...but fans will say he beat Tito like he beat an old Oscar.
He fights Taylor then he beats the man that drew with Wright & "defeated' Hopkins in a bullshit decision. Taylor's lack lustre & fans will run with that.
Still...I say that he should get more credit fighting Taylor.

Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
Floyd should fight Taylor instead of Trinidad. Taylors the middleweight champion! If Floyd wins there it makes him a 3 weight Ring world champion. Lightweight, Welterweight & Middle. Now thats a legacy.

IF he wins. Big IF!

Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
This whole Floyd bandwagon is going a bit far!! v Taylor is absolutely ridiculous!! JT could stop him with the jab alone Wacksta. ;) In my opinion Taylor is a comfortable Super Middleweight and Floyd is a comfortable Light Welterweight.

Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
I don't see how this topic is a "floyd bandwagon"

That is probably why floyd is talking up the fight with a smaller guy in tito, not Taylor.

Maybe but DLH was competitve with Hopkins until the stoppage & Talyor struggled both times with Hopkins. Plus Taylor seems to always go backwards even against smaller opponents so although he's bigger his style does not necessarily mean he'll be imposing. Taylors balance is sh*t & I could see Floyds speed & technical ability causing big problems. Taylors amatuer flaws would be highlighted by Floyd if this bout happened!

Would PBF be able to hurt Taylor tho?
And u say he has many flaws. What flaws. I mean if Winky and BHOP couldnt expose them they cant be that bad. PBF is gifted and great, but sooner or later the size difference has to catch up. Otherwise they wouldnt have weight divisions......
-
Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
Floyd's speed at 160 would definantly be a factor.....JT does jab a lot which is good if you're going after Floyd but JT seems to tense up when he lets his power punches go, throwing down instead of straight.
-
Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
i don't think PBF should even stay at 154 let alone move up to 160. the fact that he came into the DLH fight at 148 lets tell you that he knows he's not a 154lb fighter.
skill wise PBF is the better fighter but taylor is too big for him.
-
Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
a fight vs Kassim Ouma at 154 would be good
-
Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
he beats the shit out of kassim and the hater will keep complaining.

Kassim applies pressure and he could still win titles at 154
If there are no threats to Floyd at 147 or 154 then Floyd owes it to the boxing fan to FIND the threat and then eliminate it.....or just retire

Plenty of potential threats at both 154 and 147. But no noe who would clearly have an edge on floyd.
-
Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
.....when Floyd loses it's going to be a shock to everyone IMO (like when RJJ lost)....no one's ever going to see it coming, especially Floyd, and it'll bring him down to earth, as far as skills go, he'll get gunshy and start having closer fights and he'll keep at it trying to recapture his glory but it'll never come back
(that's just what I think, to help me sleep at night)

thats only true if looses by KO. if he looes a close fight like the castillo fight it could make him better.

Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
Floyd would do good fighting anybody in any weight class only problem is, if its a weight above 140...i think i'll fall asleep before the fight is over....so i dont know if he would win
-
Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
i think floyd style is capable on 160 specially against some really slower fighters it does not matter if they are really powerful; their punching power is a real threat but the thing is it's really really hard to hit floyd at full power because of his excellent defensive skill by using his exceptional reflex, speed stamina and ring intelligence.
-
Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
yeah i swear PBF know what punch comming before it's thrown. if you watch his fights there are time when it seem like he thinking will you throw the left hook already.
-
Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
he'd get more recognition fighting taylor but would make more money fighting tito lol.
i think it could be a bit dodgy fighting anyone at 160 though the power uppage from 147 must be quite a lot however to win a fight by ko you have to hit the guy and its quite hard to hit floyd with enough power to have a lasting effect.
does anyone reckon floyd would go in at around 150 on the fight night fighting against a 160 guy?

You should know by now, Floyd doesn't need to hurt to win a fight. He'll punch and run all night long.

Taylor is mediocre at best, he's like Zab Judah to the effect that he is a front runner but fades down the stretch, lets face it Hopkins was for the taken, even then B-Hop gave him fits and could have easily won one of those fights.... Taylor couldnt impose that Supermiddleweight frame on Winky Wright who is a natural Welterweight...
Taylor is a counterpunchers dream, since he wastes punches and has a real poor selection, expends to much energy in the process. Couple that with a leaky defense.... Having those wrinkles are alright if you are prospect, but not the Middleweight Champ of the world.. I maintain my pick that Spinks will upset Taylor by being slick and using his speed and experience... Its just a matter of time that Taylor gets exposed, he better Mature fast. Manny Steward dosent even seem to be a force in his corner, since he dosent follow instructions

I am a fan of Taylor, but I have to agree with that. (Except for the Spinks winning part.)
And I actually think Taylor would be a juicy fight for Floyd.
I mean, six weight class WBC champ is unheard of! That's gotta sound lucrative to Floyd.
Coupled with the fact that Floyd could concievably beat him.
A large target who wastes punches who also fades down the stretch?? TaylorTailor-made for Floyd!
Juicy, juicy, prospective rewards for Floyd.
-
Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
Taylor is a BIG Middleweight surely this would be a step to far for PBF
Don't get me wrong I think Taylor is average, but Floyd could not hurt him imo, and 6 rounds of feeling a true Middleweights power would wear Floyd down, sap his speed etc.
-
Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
I like Floyd but Floyd better not fight Taylor at 160. People think Taylor would be an easy fight because Taylor is still suffering from fatigue and technique problems, but this would be a little too much for Floyd. Taylor is the exact type of fight that would cause Floyd all types of problems. Taylor is a very accurate puncher (look how much he landed against Winky, more than anyone I've seen). Taylor is very, very active and Taylor never abandons his jab. Never. Taylor is WAY too big for Floyd. I'm sold on Floyd's chin now but I don't see how Floyd beat JT at 160. This isn't a knock on Floyd but it's just out of his range.
-
Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
This is a good thread with alot of people making some very good points. However, I'd like to see Floyd finish off his career at welterweight. In my opinion that has the most intriguing matchups for him and the most stars in it. Not to mention that he's in the drivers seat. Another reason I'd like to see him back there is that by some chance he loses to one of these guys (Cotto, Margarito, Williams) I don't want to hear any excuses about how he wasn't at his best weight. Please go back to ww pbf.

Re: If floyd goes to 160.....
honestly, i don't want pbf to go 160 and fight some oldie and rusty fighters like trinidad and the likes and then after that he will reiterate calling himself one of the greatest, it's embarrassing. if he wants to fight at 160 go fight the best, hungrier, on his prime and truly worthy one in that division like JT. what? a mismatch but going to 160 is his own decision and he wants to prove a point that he can handle weight problems right? if he wants to wonder in that division he have to fight the best in that division or else he better off stay to where the division he could really flourish and fight all the best available. going 160 and up is useless if you are fighting oldies, out of their prime and rusty boxers unless your goal is once again "greed for money". and we all know that's what it is for pbf. ;)

JT and Winky really piss me off. JT is fighting small guys, Winky's fighting old guys, these guys really should just give us a rematch. That was a great fight.

Yea Hopkins was for the taking... Besides Tito who was a legitimate threat to Hopkins over the past few years and a man at 39-40 yrs of age?? His punch out put has been extremely anemic over the past few years... Shame on Hopkins for not getting his ass in gear sooner in those fights with Taylor, cause Taylor is a fader and always does
TARVER HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Please lets review the fight, Tarver tentative throws pawing punches, Hopkins puts his head down and throws straight right, ties up Tarver and rabbit punces him in the clinch.. .Wash, rinse and repeat for 12rounds...Have you looked at punch stats for that fight ???? Scarce real scarce, Typical Hopkins fight for the last few years... I like Hopkins but him beating Milk dud was no major exhibition, historically maybe but again Beating Overhyped 1 hit wonder Tarver again is no major exhibition
Oh Yea, Maybe I got my Winky weight fact wrong... But Taylor couldnt impose his size and strenght over Winky, if you remember Taylor was the one backing into corners all night getting tagged... And yea Taylor got his azz hit early and often all nite in his fight with Winky..

As far as me hating on Floyd goes I agree I have spent to much time lately debating against his god given ability considering I do recognise his position above the pack. I guess I just feel ripped off as a fan because I can see that ability but I think he has intelligently avoided the biggest threats all the while building a very transperant legacy and milking the sport for all its worth. Thats his proffession and really he is going about it in the best possible way to secure his financial and physical preservation, good luck to him. :(
ok Tarver.. I don't like the guy period, but I don't ignore his pedigree he is no bum there was a reason Roy avoided him so long. Hopkins is excellent at beating lefty's and I think Tarver took the old man too lightly.
I must admit I was surprised that Winky was forcing the fight so much against Taylor.
At the end of the day I feel Floyd would be way out of his depth moving to 160. I don't remember the last time he fought a young, hungry, active champion with power in both hands since Lightweight let alone Middleweight. But then again I thought Oscar still had enough left to beat lil'Floyd. ;D
ok the missus has finally finished breast feedin so I' am going back to bed, its 3am damnn!! 8)
