Poll: Taylor to defend against Pavlik! It's going to happen!
Arum was on the phone with the WBC on Monday afternoon.
"Jose Sulaiman stood up like a man. He said, 'Jermain Taylor must fight Kelly Pavlik in his next fight or give up the title.' No ifs, no ands and no buts. He must fight him," stated Arum.
-
Re: Taylor to defend against Pavlik!(Poll)I't going to happen!
Did you see how Arum was looking at Pavlik after the fight, he looked like a proud pappa. I may talk crap about Bob but he knows boxing and takes care of buisness.
-
Re: Taylor to defend against Pavlik!(Poll)I't going to happen!
I'm going with Taylor on points. Please don't ask me to justify this with theory. I'm too depressed with Jermaine right now to do so.
-
Re: Taylor to defend against Pavlik!(Poll)I't going to happen!
Now I'm a Kelly Pavlik nut hugger ;) (Kelly Pavlik #1) he's going to wipe the floor of him, inside a round. No, a minute actually.

Due to the fact that Taylor aint as wide open as a barn door in the middle of summer...I voted Pavlik by decision.
Personally, I think that it'll be a great fight...but he won't have such an easy time of stopping Taylor as he did against Miranda...I still can't get over that though...totally unexpected & I was thrilled to death that Pavlik still showed Miranda respect after such a devastatingly clear win.
Good thread Dukey.

+1 for Lucifer and +1 for you wacko this is the third time in three days. I think that Pavlik has the better chin than Taylor. I believe that Pavlik swats alot harder too. We all know he respects the sport more than Taylor and hopefully Pavlik is the type of new wave of fighters. Hopefully the sun is just beginning to crest the horizon of a new wave and generation of young boxers. He showed great class. And if any of you guys are familiar with my posts , I'm all about class. I love classy fighters.

Re: Poll: Taylor to defend against Pavlik! It's going to happen!
There's no way Pavlik is gonna go through Jermaine Taylor like he did Miranda. Those are two totally different fighters. I think Taylor is a lot like Holyfield in how he fights up to the level of his opponents and a lot of times the ones that tend to not bring the fight right to him, that play more defense, that stay more elusive; they make for much more boring performances; he does what he needs to win the fight, but not much more. And he gets the job done. Until now maybe? I don't think so. Kelly Pavlik's style lends itself in a way to Taylor's in that he will bring the fight to him. The Ghost has all the size and the tools to make it a rough night for Bad Intentions too, if he retreats like Miranda, trades brainlessly (although in the exchanges expect JT to connect A LOT more than Miranda did in his exchanges...oftenwhich were awful sometimes 5:1 punch deficits to Kelly Pavlik...JT is a lot more accurate and smarter than Miranda ever will be as a boxer), but I expect Taylor to make it a lot more defensive and look for that big counter right. To maximize the effectiveness of this game plan though, he's gotta make use of the jab; he's gotta listen to Manny Steward because he's gonna need the jab big time to set range and dictate the distance and pace of the fight. If he does this, he can find Pavlik's rhythm and take control of the fight. A big danger to J.T. is his tiring late and backing up to the ropes. As we all saw during last Saturday's destruction of El Pantera, this is where The Ghost from Youngstown is most dangerous. Close, but I say Jermaine Taylor by decision in a really exciting fight. I can't wait to see if it will really happen like they say it will...

Here's the thing...I'm a huge fan of the middleweight division & a vast majority of her fighters. Always have been.
Hopkins, Sturm, Abraham, & Wright are my favorite fighters at 160lbs. Oddly enough...Taylor was my number three guy coming up. He caught my eye at the Olympics, he was glued to ESPN2 for all of his matches, and I had high hopes of the kid as an heir to Hopkins' throne.
Truthfully...the Jermain Taylor with Pat Burns in his corner...the Jermain Taylor prior to the Hopkins win...prior to the draw with Wright...prior to the two matches against two blown up light middles...that Jermain will always be in the back of my mind & if he could remotely begin to be that Jermain again...I wouldn't think twice about hoping back in his corner.
Now I know that sounds bad coming from Wacko. I know that it's a 360 degree spin of me loving values & devotion to me fighters...but Jermain busted Wacko's bubble a few years back & the way he keeps under performing...he's just adding insult to injury. I'm pretty much disgusted with him.
While Kelly's a good fighter & he did show out against Miranda...I really really want to see a showdown between the two of them.
Maybe he can work it out & maybe not...but one way or another...if they do fight...one of them will make an actual fight of it.
Honestly...I'd love to see Pavlik come out on top. Lightening strike me down...I really do.
Pavlik's been on the back burner long enough & he's been toiling in obscurity for just this very moment.
I believe that he'll shine like a new penny & thus bring the best out of Taylor.

Re: Poll: Taylor to defend against Pavlik! It's going to happen!
I think Pavlik should have about three more fights against some top ten contention fighters before he fights Taylor, But right now..Pavlik has a punchers chance, Also this would be the biggest puncher that Taylor has fought to date................ So If I had to pick, I say Pavlik by late ko.
-
Re: Poll: Taylor to defend against Pavlik! It's going to happen!
I don't think the fight will happen,he might try to give up th belts, move up and fight JC. If they do fight,I'd favour JT slightly.I think Pavlik would bring out the fighting spirit in him which he showed earlier in his career and exhibited v Winky too.
He would have his moments because Kelly's hands can be low at times. However,I'd favour the Ghost,JT can get trapped on the ropes,he has not faced as murderous a puncher as Kelly and his activity levels would give JT fits. Remember, had Winky let his hands go in the 12th,he would have won. Had B Hop let his hands go earlier in their fights,he might have won at least 1. Kelly won't have that problem, the guy is a wrecking machine.
If JT takes this fight, and wins in a war,he will have won over the fans for sure. It'll be tough,a close fight, but I favour Pavlik on points.

Re: Poll: Taylor to defend against Pavlik! It's going to happen!
Taylor's going to win this fight. That much is sure. It's will people say Pavlik just beat an underskilled Miranda and never fought anybody thats the question.
Taylor isn't gonna let Pavlik stalk him and load up for his right hand. And he has a better chin then Miranda better boxing skills, is faster and has better balance(for his lack of it) then Miranda does.
Point blank, Taylor will be the greatest fighter Pavlik has ever fought. The same cannot be said about Pavlik.

Whilst I agree that Taylor will fight Pavlik better than he has fought in his last few fights,I HIGHLY doubt it will be as easy as yo are making out. He has better balance than Miranda...so what? JT's balance is still woeful. And how does he have a better chin than Miranda, which punchers has JT fought?
JT's power at higher levels is questionable,he was constantly being backed up by the weak compared to Pavlik,Kassim Ouma and Winky. Pavlik is bigger, stronger and hits tonnes harder than them both. Pavlik is also fairly decent defensively,I don't know if people notice but although he gets hit,he knows how to smother shots too and he takes a few on the gloves.
And just because Taylor will be the the best fight Pavlik has fought and not the same for Taylor, what relevance does that have?> Styles make fights. Taylor's inactivity will cost him. Like I said, this isn't B Hop throwing 5 punches a round,or some blown up 154 pounder. This is the biggest strongest and baddest guy Taylor has fought.
It'll be far from easy for Kelly and JT will have his moments for sure but Kelly would win imo on points.

Umm i can't split em to be honest haven't seen Taylor ever take a flush shot from big puncher so i can't say to be honest so its very hard to split em i think Taylor will have huge trouble with Pavliks constant pressure and boy can Pavlik bang.

The step back up will shock him.... Im not gonna buy the Holyfield analogy for a second.
With the aggression, poise and accuracy that Pavlik brings, Taylor will be found wanting.

CC--my thoughts exactly. JT's already given up alphabet straps at this division, why is the WBC belt any different? He makes a ton more money fighting JC and would have to give up the belts to do that anyway. The only reason he'd take this fight is because Pavlik is a much easier opponent for him than JC is. I'd pick JT over Pavlik by decision; JC over JT by decision (unless he breaks both his hands in round 1).
So I'll vote JT by decision, I guess. But there really ought to be an option for "this fight isn't going to happen just because the WBC wants it to happen."

Re: Poll: Taylor to defend against Pavlik! It's going to happen!
CC bak bro, thats my thinking and not just that but there could be a confilct within team Taylor because I think his next fight is his last fight DiBella unless he re-signs and Di Bella wants him to fight Pavlik but Al Haymon(Manager?) wants him to fight someone else:(JC) so again,I doubt this fight will happen.

I wonder why you say that? I have a sneaking suspicion....
Anyways, Pavlik backed up possibly the hardest guy to back up in the division in Miranda. Backing Taylor up, as Wright showed, is what kills Taylor. Taylor did not win a single round in that fight when Wright wasn't flatfooted. Pavlik has a good jab and what comes after it is even better. Taylor will have plenty of opportunity to land, but he would have to be busy because he is not a counter puncher.
I need to see the whole Miranda - Pavlik fight (though I think pieced together I think I basically have seen the whole thing, I've definitely got the jist of the fight. Taylor used to be a busy, aggressive fighter. Where did that go? If he has any hope of beating Pavlik, he'll need that old Taylor to come back.
Begrudgingly, I'm saying Pavlik by points.

Let me say this without getting into an all out arguement with Sweet Sassy Sugar Puss...but Taylor don't take a flush shot worth a fiz-uck! Hopkins clocked Taylor in the first fight, it was either the 9th or 10th round I believe, and nearly knocked his head off of his shoulders. Taylor dropped his hands, got clocked again & then acted like a deer in headlights prior to gettin tagged again & then went flailing around & back pedaling on his bike until he could get a clutch on Hopkins.
I encourage everyone to back up & do the research yourself if youv'e got Taylor's career on tape...he did the same thing against Wright as he did against Hopkins. The first sign of this came when he fought Cuevas in 2003 or 2004...can't remember which month or whether it was the end of 2003 or the start of 2004. Anywho, he beat Cuevas over 12 rounds unanimously but Cuevas did crack Taylor a few times & Taylor did the ole' hand drop deer in headlights weakness that he DOES have!
The reason that no one's seen Taylor take a hard flush shot is due to the fact that he's hardly ever fought a power punching middleweight of legit status. Sure he's fought Joppy, Hopkins, & Wright...all champions & worthy contenders...but Joppy was pretty much a spent force, Hopkins didn't seem motivated for the games, & Wright isn't known for being a heavy handed hitter.
Pavlik will be a totally different story. While I like Pavlik & have expressed my hopes of him in the past...he's a bit like Miranda was for me...he's not my particular cup of tea & not the type of fighter that I get behind as far as skills go.
Pavlik looked, dare I say, "amazing" against Miranda? Yep...I dare. He looked amazing. To be honest...& I love to use this phrase because it's an Ali one & it is so over the top to hear him say it : "HE SHOOK UP THA WORLD"! No one was really expecting that...no matter what Pavlik's die hard fans said...no one expected that type of showing...maybe they hoped that he'd win...but NO ONE COULDA SEEN THAT COMIN.
Anywho...back to what I was saying. Pavlik will do well against Taylor...but not as well as he did against Miranda. While Taylor is a bit of a disappointment to me, & pretty much the world as we know it, he's leaps & bounds over Miranda. Miranda left bigger holes in his defense than I have holes in me gotdam socks...& I have some holey ass socks.
I truly believe that a Pavlik match will be sink or swim for Taylor & if Pavlik comes in as determined as he was against Miranda...we will have a fantastic fight on our hands...win, lose, or draw for Pavlik.

Well i will have to rewatch that fight Wacko :coolclick: for the info though didn't know all that but i agree Pavlik is massive puncher and Taylor won't able to do his normal stuff of just being able to win a fight Pavlik won't be looking for a points win he will go in the ring and try and take Taylors head off Pavlik will be a star imo he will beat Taylor and anybody else at Middleweight dare i say he could be a force at Supermiddleweight aswell ?? i did watch Miranda vs Pavlik that was proper boxing at its best toe to toe slugfest no holds barred he walked through everything Miranda had to offer and just comeback at him and beat crap out of him he looked good a proper in that fight and i believe he will finally put an end to these gift decisions Taylor is getting.

...because it's the same thing that he did against Spinks, Wright, Cuevas, & Ouma...just minus all that flailing around bullshit agaist Hopkins.
For some reason...Taylor seems to have forgotten his defense, power, & boxing smarts. Seriously...I shit you not...I don't know WTF has happened to this kid. He was somethin else prior to the Hopkins bout. Now I know that no one is perfect...but Taylor was REALLY good. I'd love to see him get it back...but honestly...I'd love to see someone that earned it command the championship.
I don't feel that Taylor has earned all of his wins lately.

Re: Poll: Taylor to defend against Pavlik! It's going to happen!
My friends little girl after the fight said Edison Miranda looked like a new born kitten. I about shoot beer out my nostrils. I never laughed so hard she is only like 7.
Im sorry if that is crude. I didnt want to see any one get hurt in the fight and I said a prayer that they didnt. My first fight I can remember was Boom Boom and Duk Koo Kim. Kim died in it 5 days later . So I try to say a mental prayer for the fighters. But my lord was that funny.......... a new born kitten.

:coolclick: right back, Lil Doggy!
Watch Taylor's first 20 fights & then watch his last seven or eight...you'll be wondering where the fwock Taylor went.
Seriously...I aint being hyper critical or trying to stretch the truth.
You know what...I agree with you...Taylor won't able to do his normal stuff. He sure as shit won't be able to win a fight with Pavlik by just trying to coast through the match on his jab. Also...I agree again...if Pavlik chops Taylor's block...Pavlik will be the go to guy of 160lbs.
As far as Pavlik being a star at 168lbs? Nope...I just don't see it for him. I think that he should be the man at 160lbs...if he can.
I have high hopes & I think that he'd be good for the sport. He's a good kid, respectable, respectful, & he's got what most fan's are in need of...concussive power & heart. Miranda vs Pavlik was more than just a toe to toe no holds barred slugfest...it was the greatest performance that we, the fans have seen from a middleweight contender in a long, long, loooooooooooong time. That's saying a lot because I was really thrilled with Sturm's shot against Oscar & Abraham's job against Miranda.
With his knockout of Miranda Pavlik pretty much issued a statement punctuated by an exclamation point...one that serves as his notice to everyone at the weight to go ahead & drop their drawers, pinch their noses, grab their ankles, & pucker up because pretty soon...they can all kiss their asses good bye.
With the power, heart, & chin that Pavlik posses...the right match ups could see him rise to the top.
IWO, all Pavlik needs to do is defeat Taylor & then start globe trotting & he could be one of the most respected & revered fighters of the last year five or six years in the 160lb range. That being said...it wasn't a display of technical brilliance...but it was impressive.

Watch Taylor's first 20 fights & then watch his last seven or eight...you'll be wondering where the fwock Taylor went.
Seriously...I aint being hyper critical or trying to stretch the truth.
You know what...I agree with you...Taylor won't able to do his normal stuff. He sure as S*** won't be able to win a fight with Pavlik by just trying to coast through the match on his jab.
Didn't think you was Wacko its just Taylor isn't doing himself no favours with these boring dragged out controversial fights i have nothing against Taylor outside the ring he seems a nice guy but inside he is boring as F*** seriously the Middleweight division needs a champion like Pavlik who isn't going to be looking for favours with judges but just going in there giving it everything he has got unlike Taylor who has played it safe whole time hoping to get lucky with judges that imo is not a real champion i really Hope Pavlik wins he will bring alot of excitement to Middleweight divison and if he beats Taylor he will rule Middleweight division for a long time and we will see some damn exciting fights to go along with it.

CC. man. that is funny.

He got taste of the goodlife(Money) and lost the passion for the sport itself and he is looking for easy big paydays. I honestly believe that Pavlik will Ko this guy.

I never said it would be easy. But I said Taylor would win :) He has a better alla round game and craft then Miranda, the only thing Miranda has is power going for him. But Jermain's style isn't to overpower another fighter or bully them like Miranda's is. Taylor's style is to fight off a bully and he does that. And honestly I don't see Pavlik with as good a jab as Wrights. And I think Pavlik is an easier style matchup then Spinks was. And I think Jermain would shock a lot of people when he beat him. Wouldn't be easy but it would be clear

What makes you think Taylor's style is to fight off a bully? When has he ever fought good off his backfoot?
