Totally agree Ice ;D
did anyone see the fight? how bad did he look?
Yeah, I've thought he should have for a while.
It is getting close for him to hang it up that is for sure. I think once he gets knocked out for real that will be the time he will slip to the level where he will not be seen as legitimate. But he sure has taken punishment, especially from Peter.Quote:

Thing is is too damn tough for his own good..
He keeps bieng denied of that heavyweight title and hasnt had that win to go out on top..
He was given a draw against Rahman when he won..
He robbed himself of the wba title against Ruiz..
The judges robbed him of the first sam peter fight so he didnt get the shot at rahman.. But was HELLA lucky to get the rematch with peter.. Of which he did alot better then everyone says he did but he DID loose .. In all fairness peter is a great fight, he looked great in that fight.. but if toney had of been given a just decision the first time .. then i have no doubt he would have beaten maskaev and at least retired having been the heavyweight champ should he have lost the title later
Yes. He is making a fool out of himself.Quote:

None of us have seen how James really looked in this fight and having seen split decisions in fights I clearly saw going only one way (Floyd: Oscar....Taylor:Spinks) I wouldnt be too hasty to draw any conclusions on Toney yet.Quote:

Maybe Wlad will want to fight him now
Toney should stay away from Wlad. Another warm up and just try to put it together piece by piece and only then maybe step up again. But only a maybe....Quote:

For what though ?? if you really are a fan of Toney you wouldn't want him to get hurt no more i don't want him back he will get badly hurt if he hasn't taken enough punches already he should go out with his legacy still intact i hate fighters who stay in boxing too long and start losing to boxers that wouldn't have in there prime.Quote:

So the other judge may have given it to him just for pressing the fight even if he didn't land anything meaningful. So Toney may have won the fight easily.
No Starr, Toney did horrible. He took a lot of clean punches too, Freddie Roach said that he wants Toney to retire and that if he does fight on, the only way Roach is sticking with him is if he comes in at 215.
Roach also said that he thinks Toney would continue to fight on with another trainer and that he is going to get hurt.
It's all in the San Jose Mercury News this morning.
It was time MANY moons ago....
But have you seen the fight? No, and me neither. We should reserve a little judgement.Quote:

And that's from people I put a lot of stock in. If Toney of all people said he did horrible, his trainer said he did horrible and every writer out there said he did horrible, well then I think it's safe to make some judgements.
FINALLY ROACH TELLS TONEY TO GET IN SHAPE!!!Quote:

As much as i like Toney this is no suprise really because Toney has a habit of getting into close decision with lower class opponents Terry McGroom Dave Tiberi in which Toney was very lucky to get the decision against Tiberi he was so disgusted with the decision that Tiberi retired so jury is still out on Toney because us Toney fans know that Toney goes through his bad patches of getting into close fights with lesser boxers.
Im happy he got his 70th win. That is an accomplishment for any boxer. Now is the perfect time for him to retire
yeah Im sure he's never even suggested as much before... ::** The man is 38 years old, and he's James Toney. he's going to do whatever he wants to and tell himself he's just as good as he ever was no matter what anyone says. Not that anyone should have to tell him to lose those man breasts.Quote:

Altough with that being said, Toney has drifted off into oblivion before and clocked up a whole heap of fights (hence the 70+ wins) proving that Toney really is an old skool fighter (i mean its not like he'strying to protect that '0' or anything).
What im saying is, for me, Toney is allowed to flirt with lower-level opposition just for the sake of fighting, enjoying his sport and getting paid. For me, that does just as much for his legacy as anything else.
A man needs to know his limitations though. Thats all.
How many all time greats (heavy or other) went out on top without an accusations of them dodging people by retiring? The are no happy endings in boxing.
yeah he is done. he hasnt got the right attitude and is lazy.
Sdly that won't stop him :(Quote:

I will watch this clip a few times more
Is there any more of this footage out there?
Based on that
Pack it in
Guys a tomato, and for most of the round,Toney cant get off first
Hes never had true heavyweight power, and now its looking like he no longer has cruiserweight speed
But again, that just basing it off of that footage,so he might have been on cruise control for that round
Based on that I need to see Toney fight 1 more time and hopefully in front of more cameras. That footage was not vintage Toney, but it did look like a bout of habitual sparring...
Hopefully Toney sticks to his word and is back very soon...
Toneys not really a shot fighter, hes just not a heavyweight. He thinks that his skills alone are enough for him to suceed at this weight. That is the problem with Toney and he wont fix it this far along so yes he should retire, but he wont.
I wouldn't mind if he retired, I haven't seen this fight so I can't say much about it but before this fight I thought it might be the right move to go ahead and retire.
Is he gonna get better, he's just getting older, who really thinks he's gonna get down to 215, even 220? It'd be great to see him come back and win a big fight but he's gonna end up having fought on to long probably.
