Default Is It Time For James Toney To Hang The Gloves Up

As much as i like Toney its bad to see him only winning sd in his last fight against someone he should of won quite comfortably he lost badly to Peter now only winning sd against this guy imo its time to hang them up.

It is getting close for him to hang it up that is for sure. I think once he gets knocked out for real that will be the time he will slip to the level where he will not be seen as legitimate. But he sure has taken punishment, especially from Peter.

Thing is is too damn tough for his own good..

He keeps bieng denied of that heavyweight title and hasnt had that win to go out on top..

He was given a draw against Rahman when he won..

He robbed himself of the wba title against Ruiz..

The judges robbed him of the first sam peter fight so he didnt get the shot at rahman.. But was HELLA lucky to get the rematch with peter.. Of which he did alot better then everyone says he did but he DID loose .. In all fairness peter is a great fight, he looked great in that fight.. but if toney had of been given a just decision the first time .. then i have no doubt he would have beaten maskaev and at least retired having been the heavyweight champ should he have lost the title later

Yes, a decision over Peter and then a win over Maskaev was the ideal way for Toney to finish his career. Its awkward for me as a fan to see the way it has gone. None of us have seen how James really looked in this fight and having seen split decisions in fights I clearly saw going only one way (Floyd: Oscar....Taylor:Spinks) I wouldnt be too hasty to draw any conclusions on Toney yet.

Until I see this fight, I wont yet be calling for time on Toney's career....

Toney should stay away from Wlad. Another warm up and just try to put it together piece by piece and only then maybe step up again. But only a maybe....

For what though ?? if you really are a fan of Toney you wouldn't want him to get hurt no more i don't want him back he will get badly hurt if he hasn't taken enough punches already he should go out with his legacy still intact i hate fighters who stay in boxing too long and start losing to boxers that wouldn't have in there prime.

ICB have you seen the fight? Toney very well may have won that fight 98-92 just as the other two judges said(one said 97-93) all I heard was that the fight was boring. Which means that Toney as usual was laying back and countering and the other guy was coming forward and throwing. So the other judge may have given it to him just for pressing the fight even if he didn't land anything meaningful. So Toney may have won the fight easily.

No Starr, Toney did horrible. He took a lot of clean punches too, Freddie Roach said that he wants Toney to retire and that if he does fight on, the only way Roach is sticking with him is if he comes in at 215.

Roach also said that he thinks Toney would continue to fight on with another trainer and that he is going to get hurt.

It's all in the San Jose Mercury News this morning.
