How the fuck did that guy walk out of that?
Unbelievable
And he walked out???????
Just one more reason why people should participate in real sports. Don't get me wrong that stuff takes courage and skill but sometimes you just have to wonder. Thats more of a hobby than a sport and i really don't see the point in glorifying it as if its a new sports genre.
You cant get hurt skiing?Quote:

And is that an established sport?Quote:

Being hurt in something doesn't legitimize or delegitimize a sport. You can get hurt doing anything but honestly is it or is it not better described as a hobby than a sport?. You can skateboard around town and pretty much anywhere. You can't just ski anywhere. You have to organize sports. If you can just go out and do something, than it's a hobby but if you have to travel to some specified area or call up some friends and then go to a specified area to play its a sport.Quote:

Yes but the pros don't do that. Any skateboarding around town and grinding things is the exact same thing the pros do in skate boarding competitions.Quote:

No actually it isntQuote:

Pro level skating is actually harder to practice then most major sports, because its harder to find facilities
And for Lyle, the next time you break 5 bones laying down a pair of 10's,let me know
I didn't see that live, if I did I think I would have thrown up. That was horrifying.
Golf is a hobby as is poker just because they have pro leagues doesn't mean its more sport than hobby.Quote:

I dunno Kat, landing from that height and not dying is a pretty decent trick as far as Im concerned.
ahhhhh but it's gotta be in the rules !! no skateboard no trick
in effect u could say he cheated 2 get2nd place :lickish: :lickish:
He could see it slipping away so threw himself to the ground for the sympathy points ;D
yea and he did the running man in the air for added effect
u see he turned and landed on the secret padding on his side b4 he hit the ground
should have an inquiry into this sort of cheating hehehehe :lickish:
His other two runs were probably top notchQuote:

Not guilty (no matter how odd sounding a boxing nickname you may think it to be) actually has a nice ring to it if thrown in the middle of my full name. Therefor, when i do begin boxing, i will be going with that.Quote:

I don't know if he actually made it or not but some of the things he would brag about doing were trivial in my estimation (not that i could even stand on a skateboard for more than 10 seconds without breaking something). He was sponsored for quite awhile and kept messing around with making his own skating company or something like that. Basically, i'm not as uneducated about the subject as you'd like to believe.
Its a sportorized hobby as far as i'm concerned. You can skateboard by yourself. Even if you go to a place that has vert ramps and all that, you could be skate boarding on your own and it'd be the exact same thing you'd be doing at the pro level. Skiing is different simply because there's a race aspect and you aren't asisted by motorized machines (like you would be in motocross, nascar, etc. Don't get me wrong they take skill to drive but calling them sport is stretching it abit).
Golf is not a sport because 70 yr old men (and numerous otherwise unfit athletes) can excel at it. There is a degree of athleticism required to pull off the jumps and tricks in these "extreme" sports but the same could be said about yoyoing or competitive eating (if you'll atleast agree that the latter is a total farce, we may find some common ground here). There's just been such an influx of new "sports" in the past several decades that i believe people have lost perspective of what a sport really is. MMA is a combat sport (low quality IMO, but to each his own) and you can't exactly just MMA by yourself. Just like boxing, there is no practice run you can go on to simulate a boxing match aside from actually getting in the ring with someone. Anything aided by a motorized machine can't possibly be a sport IMO. There can be aspects of a sport to it but calling it a full blown sport is a bit much.
I really have no opinion on skateboarding...It takes a good level of skill much like surfing...is it a sport?..hell I dont know...but guys come on...putting a 20 ft birdie and cracking a 300 yard drive in the fairway are probably two of the hardest things to do in sports..I dont play golf but I count it a sport
Sport/not sport? Whos to say. All Im sure of is that if you get paid for something and operate at a level Joe Bloggs cant reach its far more than a hobby. A hobby is something where performance doesnt really matter that much.
Darts is one that comes to mind, always hovering on the sport/not sport boarder. Anyone can pick up a set of arrows and hit a few 100's the occasional 180, doesnt make you Phil Taylor. Not the most energetic of sports but then again neither are some of the events you see at the olympics, pistol shooting for fucks sake?
I saw that live... That was insane man the way he landed on the ramp was just mind boggling.... :o
There was another guy who tried the double back flip he missed it also... Heres the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnVXUoxbLmw
It takes skill don't get me wrong but i think its still there on the boarder.Quote:

No. They both have measureable levels of skill and success as well as a degree of athleticism (just look at charles barkleys golf swing, how his back is still in one peice amazes me) required to do them but they aren't full blown sports. Shooting a gun takes just about as much skill as golfing or those other things. You have to calm your nerves to the point where you can hold it steady and most of the time you have a very small target to hit. I don't exactly consider hunting a sport either. They are borderline hobby/sport and the argument could be made one way or the other.
I gotta disagree about shooting/golf analogy...Granted I'm in the Army but I can shoot pretty well and I work with a number of guys that can put a 5 round shot group inside a quarter at 300 meters with iron sights.....but I'm pretty damn worthless with a golf club
I saw it live in a local bar. Couldn't believe it. My first words to the guy next to me were, "that kids' never gonna walk again."Quote:

Lyle, I hear you, but partly disagree. I think people don't see it as a sport because of the way it's marketed... plus you have the kids skating in public places, ruining shit, etc. But I skated many moons ago... shit, 20 years ago...and I have to say, these guys are athletes in every sense of the word. It takes massive hours of practicing, countless injuries, etc. To be able to do what they do is just as impressive...more impressive even...than most other sports on TV.
he was lucky he ended up where he did on the rotation.. could have ended badly for the bloke.Quote:

America is a land of choices and I am of the opinion that flying down a ramp to jump up as high as possible with only a helmet, kneepads, and a skateboard was a bad choice.....and perhaps that dude thought the same thing as he was laying in his hospital bed with a bruised lung and bruised liver.
You try something stupid Dan and you just might get a stupid result....hence the "hahahaha"....you act as if this is something no one does when they see that sort of crap....ever heard of a show called 'Scarred' or 'Caught On Tape'.....people make money off of these near death experiences and they don't deserve to, they were stupid to do those things to begin with.
