Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
Pancho Villa = He died at 23 its scary thought how good he could of been.
Salvador Sanchez = Died at 22 or 23 yet he beat more All Time Greats than most boxers do in there entire Career.
Mike Tyson = Bad habits and Cus dying he could of been one of the Greatest Hw's of all time.
Roy Jones = Had he retired after Ruiz i think its good chance Jones would be top 10 P4P.
Charles Burley = Amazing fighter was ducked by likes of Robinson i think he could of been one of the greatest had he of got his chance.
Aaron Pryor = Similar to Tyson had very bad habits ruined his career and was ducked by some of the big boys aswell imagine how great he could of been ??

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
Its a strange thing man
Like many of the fighhters that were at the top of theyre game in the ninetees they all seemed to be fighting amazing competition and acting like real champs
The likes of barrera morales trinidad oscar were all fighting big great fights and champions and collecting titles
But of course toney unlike the likes of tito had the most amazing style and skill to go all the way with it, where as tito would have and did slip eventually
The competition was still there had toney kept on the strait and narrow im still bitter he never had the chance to stay low in weight and fight julian jackson, eubanks , benn, even maybe a fight with norris and more big names on his resume would have been amazing

I already think he is one of the best of all time, but he would have been THE BEST if he had half a brain. There was only one man who could beat Mike Tyson and that was Mike Tyson and in the end that's what he did.

Hector Camacho--Another one who lost a step from the outside life habits,

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
Mike Tyson
Harry Simon(gave Winky a hell of a fight in just his 15th fight.
Ike Ibeabuchi(could still be champ)
Sonny Liston(if he had been born a few years later he may have been the most dominant fighter of the golden era)
Roy Jones Jr(I consider him it, but he could have faced more SMW's)
James Toney(better work ethic)
Michael Nunn
McClellan if he hadn't gotten hurt in his fight
David Tua(what a tank if he stayed in shape who knows)
can't think of any more at the moment

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
Good call on Villa. That young and already has over 100 fights. I cant imagine what he would have accomplished by 30.

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
vernon forrest
also jerry quarry i think he could of been a way better fighter then he was
-
Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
Donald Curry. If he had more discipline (was known to blow up between fights) and didn't over stay his stay at welterweight. He would of been great.
Mark Breland. If he had a chin he would of been great. The skills were there
Ike Quartey. All he needed to do (against De La Hoya and Vargas) was let his hands go more.

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
vargas= if he would of taken more time to develop when younger.
zab judah= if only he would of mature and work on his defense.
buster douglas= if he would of stayed focus and hungry.(not literally hungry)

Im happy he wont go down in histoy as a great fighter. He doesnt deserve that. He was disrespectful to everyone especially his opponents...and women. He was a tough fighter but hopefully we dont see the likes of him again.

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
I am going to upset my fellow Aussie fight fans here by nominating Kostya Tszyu, like Aaron Pryor Tszyu was ducked by a lot of the AAA fighters during his ten year reign as the 140lb King. DLH, Mosley and PBF all avoided the big punching KT denying him a real marquee name on his resume. JCC was well past his best when he fought Tszyu so let's not bring him up, Tszyu lost to Vince Phillips and he shouldn't have and i look at his impressive record and have to argue that all time greatness just eludes him without a win against the fighters mentioned above. Tszyu is no doubt one of the best Jr Welters ever but just falls short of all time greatness. Had Tszyu been more active and perhaps moved up and taken the 147lb title then all time greatness would be his.
Salvador Sanchez makes it due to his wins against Gomez and Nelson, Pryor doesn't because he didn't get to fight Duran, Leonard or Hearns. Tszyu is in the Pryor category.

People will probably find this pick strange but i'm totally with you on this one. Vargas had such a fantastic boxing brain. His ability to adapt when Plan A wasn't working was incredible. At age 20 years old and being knocked down 3 times in round 1 against Trinidad, then to bring himself back into the fight spoke volumes to me about him. Was one of the most incredible things i've seen.

Utter rubbish Mike Tyson was totally over rated and never won a fight were the other guy fought back.
plenty of people could and would have beaten Mike Tyson!!!!

Tommy Hearns!
If he had a chin like Hagler & stamina like Marciano, he would have THE greatest fighter of all time!!!!

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
I will add Joe Calzaghe to the list. A great fighter, fast, strong hard to work out, adaptable and can take a punch. However he has not had the competition to showcase his abilities. Added to the fact that there is pretty much no way for him to improve his legacy, he's missed the atg boat. If he fights Hopkins or Jones, neither are near their peak and although on paper the wins would look good, they will be meaningless to fight fans (well me anyhow). Only his bank manager will care. I actually think that if it weren't for the money, he should just hang up his gloves now.

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
Lalia Ali-Could have left a hell of a legacy for womans boxing, but dodged Wolfe, and everyone knows it
Angel Manfreddy,Just his luck, hes around at the rise of Mayweather
Vitali Klitschko, there but for that cut
Joe Mesi, damn shame about the injury
Michael Dokes,bad habits indeed
Michael Grant, the next big thing, but he never had a consistent training philosophy,so hed get caught out confused

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
Michael Moorer if he stayed at Light Heavyweight. A truley amazing force at 175

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
Harry Wills at Heavy...Dempsey Finally agreed to tentative bout but then the Govoner of New Jersey?or New york Cancelled it in fear of "Race riots"
Zack Padillia In the 90's was on the rise and a great run at Jr. welter becoming champ........Maybe it is a stretch to say "all time great" but He was ALL ACTION and was ready for the big names IMO.He developed bleeding on the brain while sparring with Shane Mosley for a while and forced to retire.always wondered What If???
Salvador Sanchez without a doubt. But consider many already say he was/Is so early in career.
Junior Jones....Everything tobe long time champ and the best.....Except a Chin.No chin whatso ever Imo.
Kid akeem
Jeff Chandler

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
I also think guys like Liston, Foreman and Bowe all missed great opportunities to achieve real greatness with perhaps big George probably the best of the three. Curry, Nunn, Breland,Camacho,Mancini and Zarate all come to mind who had every chance to be ATG but just fell short of the achievement.
Maybe Mosley has missed out too with his losses to Forrest, Wright and Cotto.

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
What if Willie-pep didn't keep losing to sandy saddler?..There are a few old boxers who consider Pep the best there ever was in terms of P4P. it's sad footage is so hard to find of pep but if he defeated sandy saddler on the few occasions they fought...What has been said or written about Willo the Wisp....well history could tell a different story.

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
I totally agree with the call on Roy Jones...maybe he did go on too long, when he's made enough money, and the win over John Ruiz would have capped an immense career of achievement, which has been slightly sullied in his old age.
What about Audley Harrison Naseem Hamed, he seemed to have everything laid out for him, and the Barrera defeat could have made him greater if he could have rebuilt and come back better and more experienced, but the defeat just crippled him.
And I hate to say it, but we seem to be in a period of a couple of years at the moment, where the big names are fighting each other, and are creating legends before our eyes.

Re: Fighters Who Could Of Been One Of The Greatest Of All Time
tony tucker. he had it all movement power. if he had been properly managed and not broke his hand against tyson i think he could have dominated the heavyweight division. unfortunately he threw his talent away.
