One of the very best in all boxing history
He will be a bigger version of and this generations Roberto Duran
A certain hall of famer and living legend.. No question
I understand he got beat up easy against Junior Jones can anyone explain wot happened there.
One of the greatest Mexican fighters of all time, You should check out his fight with Kennedy McKinney. That was one of the best slugfest's you will ever see. If your MAB fan do not watch 1st Junior Jones fight because he took a bit of beating in that fight, although i think MAB should of won the rematch vs Junior Jones, he just had MAB's number just like Norton had Ali's and Forrest had Mosley's.
I think Barrera was one of the best Superbantamweights of all time he is up there with Wilfredo Gomez imo.
Jones just had his number, Jones caught Barrera with very hard right hand and Barrera went down, he got back up and then he was pounded along the ropes and he went down again but Barrera's corner men jumped into the ring when the round was still active so Barrera got DQ but if you watched the fight you would consider it a KO and not DQ win. The rematch Barrera done better i think he edged it but like i said Jones just had Barrera's number.Quote:

Yep he walked right into it, i couldn't believe he actually got up that was right on the button perfect punch.Quote:

Second fight was much closer, still a L on his record though. People for years kept saying he was chinny after the first Jones fight ::**Quote:

Barrera was too over confident just like Mosley was going into Forrest fight and he payed the price. I did think Barrera won the rematch but Jones just had the right style to beat Barrera theres always a boxer out there that just has your number, like Norton/Ali, Forrest/Mosley, Saddler/Pep. But fair play to Barrera he comeback very well when most boxers wouldn't have recovered from that.Quote:

What do you mean by " He will be a bigger version of Duran "
He certainly isn't as popular or revered as Duran, and he's much lighter. And he's many, many tiers below him in the pantheon of pugilistic greats. Barrera was a modern great of that theres no question, but he was pretty limited when compared to authentic all time greats.
A fantastic fighter turned boxer Barrera was a great fighter who in my opinion is ia member of the royal family of the Mexican boxing hierarchy.
His power, desire, stamina and work ethic would have made him competitive in any era

Cheers for the comments I also heard he lost against Pac man twice anyone know what the fights were like.
The 1st fight Pac dominated Barrera, 2nd fight Barrera boxed cautious and he was doing pretty good through first 9 rounds, but he faded and Pacquiao won clearly in the later rounds. The 2nd fight alot of people didn't enjoy it, im not sure it would be your taste i didn't think it was a bad fight but i don't think you would enjoy it.Quote:

How can you compile 200 odd posts on this forum yet haven't seen hardly any Barrera fights?
The Barrera-Pac rematch was 2 months ago.
:-\
I have the utmost respect for Barrera and his place in the hall of fame. But I've always been more of a Morales fan. Sorry I had to mention Morales, but you can never mention one without the other.
One of the greatest and most intelligent fighters in the history of the sport. He could go from brawler to boxer and vice versa...as well as anyone.
The only Barrera fights I have seen in full is the Naseem Hameed fight and the morales trilogy I have not seen any of his other fights gonna try and look on the net over the next few days see if can get a career set on him and see more of his fights...Cos on the fights I have seen him the Hammed and Morales ones he is great to watch...Quote:

Good but over-rated. Sort of a third tier elite fighter. Not a phenom like Floyd and Roy. Not quite on the level of Tito and Oscar. The problem with him is there's no point in time where you can look at him and say "that's when he was a monster". He looked like a beast at 122 but then he got smoked by Jones. He looked like a future all-time top 10 at 126, then he got smoked by Pac. He pretty much got beat up by Marquez and Pac at 130.
It's not a case of looking like a fucking monster at any stage of your career. He fought with pride and courage and never stopped at anything and as a result gave us some of the best bouts ever fought. As far as his losses go.......great fighters get beat by great fighters, he has never lost to a sub standard fighter. Your post is a bit confusing.Quote:

I don't know if I'd call him "sub-standard", but Jones wasn't an elite fighter. The question was "How good was MAB?", so him fighting with "pride and courage" means nothing. All fighters fight with pride and courage, because they're fighters. He was an elite fighter. Arguably a great fighter. But when you look at his actual career, it falls short of where people usually seem to place him.Quote:

years ago the p4p ranking was like this;
roy jones
bernard hopkins
marco antonio barrera
that was the top three p4p fighters at the time.
Marco was no doubt the better p4p fighter while our current top two p4p were still making their way up.
He was never better than PBF. And how was he better than Pac? He deserved to be rated higher because he was more established but he obviously wasn't better.Quote:

His losses came from guys who are all going to the HOF...he always showed courage in the ring...one of the greatest all time trilogy's....He can retire now as at ATG without question....It takes a rare breed of fighter that when looking on his career there is no need to question if or should I say how will he be looked upon in 20 years....Barrera is one of those fighters
Fucks sake, look back a few years would you.Quote:
