< -- Documentaries -- >
While on the SRR thread that Daxx did I started thinking about documentaries.... So my question is which is your fav. documentary?
Try to list ONLY 3.
For me in this order:
1. Ring Of Fire:Emile Griffith - Both great & tragic what a great doc. this was as it lead you to the Paret fights.
2. Unforgivable Blackness:Jack Johnson - Some great rare footage in this one. Jack was a funny but malicious man IMO.
3. Roberto Duran: Beyond The Glory - One of my fav. all time fighters really enjoyed this one and great insight on Duran.
-
Re: < -- Documentaries -- >
Bazooka: The Battles Of Wilfredo Gomez: Saw this once and it was outstanding. Can't seem to find it anywhere
The Rules Of The Ring: Looks at Dempsey, Tyson and John L. Sullivan
The Champ Nobody Wanted: Great look at Sonny Liston
Roberto Duran: Beyond The Glory: Agree with Mick. A great doc
-
Re: < -- Documentaries -- >
Joe Calzaghe: No Average Joe (Violent Demise would enjoy that one) ;D
But seriously I will try and download all the documentary's mentioned in this thread - have been meaning to download the Jack Johnson one and will over this weekend. :)

You guess it Bazooka: The Battles of Wilfredo Gomez :'(
I wanted to fucken cry..
I've e-mailed the co. who produced it and also the distributors no ones ever replied to my e-mails.... :(
Fuckers!! >:mad
Durans BTG was fucken great man... that picture of him and his pops posing in the dressing room are great.

Unforgiviable Blackness was one of the best documentaries I have ever seen...be it on boxing or anything else....It showed exactly how hard it was for Jack to be champion...also showed at times his pride was his own worst enemy

Unforgivable Blackness is probably the best boxing BOOK ever written. It is a must read for any boxing fan.

Something that always makes me laugh when I think about that Doc.
Is the part where they show Jack driving down a street and a cop pulled him over. The cop writes him a ticket for $50 dlls. (You gotta think this was like 1909) or something like that so 50 dlls. was a lot.... Well anyways Jack pulls out a chunk of rolled up bills from his pocket and hands the cop $100 dlls. the cop says to Jack the tickets for $50 and Jack tells the cop I know it's because I plan on driving back down this same street coming back.
Fucken brilliant!!! :lolhaha:

I never knew all those things about Jack and all the trouble he'd had.
Getting into street fights all the time, and trying to survive day by day.
What was crazy also was how they would build arenas/venues for particular fights. Really great doc. all in all.

Re: < -- Documentaries -- >
Ring Of Fire: Emile Grifith
Beyord The Glory: Bernard Hopkins
Legendary Nights: Chavez-Taylor
-
Re: < -- Documentaries -- >
The 3 CMM said are all great, especially 'Ring Of Fire', sorry WelshdevilRob but i did not think the joe calzaghe doc. was that good. I'd love to see a Johnny Tapia doc., his book is great but i'd like to see the story retold in a doc. so we could see interviews with Tapia and his family. I haven't seen that B-HOP doc., i'll keep my eyes peeled for it.

Good call on the B-Hop BTG that's actually my #5 in my list.
The way it was put together the interviews and how they took you there to the correctional facility he was in as a teen and the gym he trained at is great.

Oscar has a couple out here in E.L.A.
Paez Sr. has a cool one in Mexicali, Mexico
Duran has several in Panama
That's the way of the people showing love and respect towards one of their own who's had a big impact on the outside world.

Re: < -- Documentaries -- >
One night in Vegas was good, Tyson and tupac.
-
Re: < -- Documentaries -- >
I've got a few on my computer. The Undisputed Truth is pretty good, and I liked the Beyond the Glory for both Hopkins and Jones Jr.
The HBO Real Sports - Boxing Deaths documentary was good, but I found the part about Vernon Forrest's death particularly sad. I've got Unforgivable Blackness on there too but I've never gotten around to watching it because it's about 4 hours long and I've never had the time.
I've got a good one about Don King too, it's done by Jack Newfield. I'm not sure what the official title of it is, when I downloaded it it was called "Don King: Unauthorised." It's only about 40 minutes, but it's a good watch.

Assault In The Ring is fascinating.
Unforgiveable Blackness is my favourite.

Ya there are a lot of great docs in there, Mick's list. And among them a serious look at the dark underbelly in Assault in the Ring. I think it is important for anyone learning the sport, wanting to be a part of it to see that. A must even. Some unfortunate realities to this world of boxing.

Re: < -- Documentaries -- >
I saw a BBC one about Don King years ago about his corruption and double standards and getting money from South Africa when there was apartheid. He was flummoxed by the reporter.
