Hey guys, kopunch here. Well about 2 days ago I started skippin rope, And about 2 minutes in i started to get a pretty bad headache on the upper right side of my head, and everytime I do cardio, like jogging ,sprinting, skippin, I get a bad headache. Im really worried, do you guys know what this is? and/or how to make them go away?
I don't know for sure. If it happens on just one side of your head and happens at other times aside from exercise then it might be something that you should talk to your doctor about.
Some simple precautions for your cardio is to not hunch up, (i.e. tightening the muscles around your head and neck) avoid clenching your teeth, and putting your chin on your breastbone, this can all cause a headache in itself. Drinking enough water is goes with out saying, and so does a good warm up to prevent a headache that would be caused by a quick change of blood pressure. Some dynamic and passive stretching before your workout can help deal with any tight muscles that would otherwise hinder your workout.
If you still experience headaches whenever you exert yourself even after taking precautions than this is definately something that you should see a doctor about. Perhaps Scrap has something that he can share from his understanding in biomechanics that can shed more light on this. It could be simple, or it could be something else, nonetheless you gotta do something about it.

Rest dont push it.
Then go back to doing stuff but take it easy finding out.There a good senario and it could be just dehydration it causes that alot. Chocolate can do that if theres a wack of it in your system and you go at it hard.
Theres a not so good senario too ,but either way you want to find out on the simple route not the oh my god its time to panic route.
Rest until theres no pain. get fully hydrated and start up slow and do it right and move on when your warmed up then do the cardio stuff in bunches and stop and breathe and see how you feel.
Get someone to prod around in your shoulder and shoulder blades neck muscles etc it can come from there too ,you'll know when they hit the spot at the base of your neck and out about an inch out onto your trapezius muscle can trigger brain pain high up in your head ,you can reach that one yourself and see if you got a knot in there.
Good post chris, It could be one of many things, usually its the hips being out off line is a common source of the problem and the upper body compensating to give the head stability. Thus tightening of the opposing side you are trying to compensate for. one stretch which should help is the chicken on the Stretch Routine whats up on the stretches.
I find that when something is out in my back skipping aggrivates it more than anything else because of the impact.
If it's an option for you seeing a chiropractor or osteopath might fix it up pretty quickly - if it's your back.

Its not something western medicine or even extremly physically orientated people can even think about, let alone except as real but when freed up the body repairs its self faster naturally.

I'm still holding off on spending money so I can afford to blow it on a holiday at the end of the year but I might check out some local practictioners after that.
I'm thinking the Reggae marathon in Jamaica Dec 6th now - unless Saddo members can agree on something else I'd rather travel for :)

I get horrible headaches If I'm training without hydration.
Even when I rehydrate afterward. This primarily occurs on Saturdays on my longer gym sessions in which I train solo.
On Saturdays I have a typical routine, which is concluded by myself and my girlfriend ordering food (don't worry it's a green salad:D for me) and watching a DVD.
If I was hydrated poorly that day in training the headaches will again bother me while watching TV.
I was reading info i've found on the Psoas muscle that seems likely to be behind a lot of my problems and a link between what you've written here and what I'm reading became really obvious to me. I don't think I fully understood what you meant and I probably still don't get the full extent of it.Quote:

Yeah and I thought the difference between the way humans and animals react to fear and the damage that can do was interesting.
So maybe the fact that yoga is recommended for a lot of these problems is no suprise? Not just because it makes you stretch but it makes you attempt to do it with a more peaceful mental/emotional state perhaps?

Yeah if you fear, youre tense and the damage will be more .
I think what you secretly fear can open up some areas so that your more suceptable to damage there.
Yoga gets you to put more air into yourself too while your doing it so it has to be benifitial.
It could to due to high cholestrol or high blood pressure you're experiencing headaches. It'd be best to get it checked. It could also be from too much tension or not warming enough getting the blood flowing before working out.
(NEVER try to work out very hard at the end of the day if all you've done is layed around on the couch earlier).
Have yourself checked up by your doctor. It could be serious.
