Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
Miranda blasts Abraham yet again!
Promises to Take on Best at Super Middleweight
February 16, 2008

Edison Pantera Miranda has not had much to say about his former opponent Arthur Abraham in a long time. But in a recent interview he blasted him for not being a true champ. "Ever since I busted your jaw, you have fought nobody. But here you are bragging to the media about what solid opponents you’ve faced. Who are these guys? It is a joke that you never step it up like a true champion and fight a strong opponent.”
Abraham will be facing Elvin Ayala (18-2-1, 8 KO’s) for his next title defense in late March. Miranda had some choice words about this opponent as well. “I could only laugh when I saw his next hand picked opponent. Ayala is a guy that lost not once, but two times to David Banks, a guy that I sent through the ropes with one punch. To make matters worse he brings all these bums into his backyard – a place where the referee treats him like his own daughter. If he had any balls, he would fly his ass to America and fight me at a catch weight of 165. I’d destroy him!”
Miranda, who is well known to face any opponent anywhere, has his eyes set on Canadian Jean Pascal, the WBO 2nd ranked fighter in the world, for a possible June 7th showdown in Montreal. Miranda spoke highly of Pascal acknowledging that Pascal’s unblemished record is not an accident. “Edison Miranda is a real fighter. I fight the best available that have the courage to step in the ring with me. If I need to go to Montreal to fight Pascal, then I will. P! ascal will be my fourth undefeated opponent in my last seven fights. He is not only highly ranked but has an impressive record of 21-0 with a strong amateur background. I could sit back and accumulate easy wins like Abraham, but I choose to fight strong opponents. It’s not only my job as a boxer to do this, but it’s what the fans want to see. I look forward to putting on a show for the 20,000 Canadian fans projected to come to this fight.”
Miranda (30-2, 26 KO’s) is currently ranked 4th in the WBC, 6th in the WBA, 7th in the IBF and 10th in the WBO and seems to be feeling much healthier and stronger after recently moving up to super middleweight. He has his eyes on fighting the best in the division. “I want to fight the best at super middleweight just like I did at middleweight. If he is ever man enough to fight me, I want to fight Taylor. He’s been avoiding me for years now. This is not only a fight that I want but all the fans want as well. After that, I’d love to get a rematch with Pavlik and show him what I’ve got at 168 when I am healthy. I will not only be champ at this weight class, but a champ who fights the very best – just like the old days.”

Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
Pantera is old school. You have to like the guy. I am not sure if he will be a champ at 168, but you know he will give it his all.

Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
HaHa...Miranda blasts Abraham for fighting easy opposition and says that he fights "the best available" and "chooses strong fighters"...?!?I must have totally underestimated Banks... and Pascal...a total monster...lol...
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black...;)

Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
Miranda vs Froch would be good

Porras and Banks were his 2 comeback fights after getting beat by Pavlik and moving up in weight. Some guys never recover from such a beating and his team (and HBO) wanted these fights for him. Before that look at who he fight and in such a short time. Miranda is the last person you can give crap for not fighting enough or tough competition.
Now he wants the best. He would fight Calzaghe, Kessler, Taylor or even Pavlik if they could make the fight. But these guys dont want him. So he is going to the backyard of Jean Pascal. Yes, he is the best available that is willing to fight and he is 100 times better than anything Abraham has looked at in the past 1.5 years.

Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
Not gonna get into all this Miranda-Abraham back and forth, couldn't give a shit, but considering Abraham seemed willing to fight pretty good competition as he was coming up having four subpar fights in a row is dissapointing.
If Abraham doesn't wake up, what's at 160 for Pavlik. Apparently there's been some talk of Abraham coming to the U.S. next, doubtful that means Pavlik. He just needs to start taking some meaningful fights, wherever they are.

LoL...you must be joking, cause I'm laughing again :D
I've never even heard of Pascal before they started to built up this fight...
Miranda shouldn't really wonder about other boxers opponents and mind his own business...
As for fighting Calzaghe, Kessler, Taylor or even Pavlik...
Why not start with Andrade, Bika, Froch, Inkin, Braehmer ,Tsypko there are alot of names at SM...But I guess it got to be Pascal...
If a boxer is a loudmouth he should back it up somehow, but so far Miranda hasn't achieved nothing to back it...
-
Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
Maybe Miranda shouldn't be talking, and I think Pascal is a pretty soft opponent for him, but he is right the AA has fought a lot of bums and refuses to travel. AA is good fighter, but it's clear Sven Ottke is one of his career advisors ;D

I can agree with that...but the year is still young and my hopes for AA high...;)

Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
Miranda is definently an entertaining fighter to watch and of course I totally agree with his assesment of the situation with Abraham.
We have seen Felix Sturm take his big shot vs Oscar De la Hoya and then fade into obscurity.....and it seems as if Arthur Abraham has chosen to take a similar career path and it's sad because his fight vs Miranda was a classic which he gutted out and won.
I think these German fighters: Abraham, Sturm, and Sylvester are being overly cautious and denying us the fans extremely good fights.
Amin Asikainen might be a little overly cautious with his career as well

You obviously are clueless as to the inside of boxing and how fights are setup. If HBO wants Miranda to fight any of the people you mentioned and they would take the fight, Edison would be on board. Just as he was leading up to the Pavlik fight. Without HBO he has no choice but to take a few buildup fights. Now the networks (HBO and SHO) are back behind him and he will fight whoever they can setup.
Abraham, being the champ, hand picks whoever he wants. He is obviously picking the lowest caliber opponents that his network is willing to accept. He has not stepped in the ring with one worthy opponent since Miranda beat his ass. He has the options, Miranda just takes what the networks will give him.

First of all AA doesn't pick his opponents, but his management does...
AA will fight(just like your boy) whoever he is set up with...
And secondly I don't even disagree that much with Miranda...I just think that he is in no position to speak, considering the opposition he fought...
And btw "since Miranda beat his ass." haha...I think someone can't cope with a loss...

In fairness to Abraham, he has a belt to defend and from time to time he needs to face an overrated highly ranked bum to keep his belt. God knows, B-Hop made a ton of soft mandatories. Gevor was the highest ranked avaible fighter when he took that fight, and it was a fight he was going to need to make sooner or later, just like he'll need to fight
Still Wayne Elcock back to back with Evlin Ayala is pretty weak ass shit. Anybody got a reason why he hasn't fought Sturm to unify the German half of the title? Or cross off Sylvester or Asikainen from the list of manditories.

Sturm and Abraham are always saying they are willing to fight each other, but they are pretty good at avoiding each other...
Abraham and Sylvster are stablemates, so I doubt this one will happen...
As for Asikainen I don't know...

And his managment (Wilfred 'Mr Corruption' Sauerland) hand picks the softest opponents he can. Abraham should stand up and tell him he wants the best. Ultimately he has a say.

If Abraham only fights soft, hand-picked opponents, how come he ever fought Miranda? Fact is, Abraham fought through and won despite a broken jaw. Now Miranda will have to display similar qualities despite a burst bubble.

Miranda was his mandatory. He had no choice to fight or give up the belt. Gevor was his next mandatory when Miranda went to fight Pavlik instead of the rematch. Abraham is a champ, but gets no respect for his choice of opponents. If you respect him, than it doesnt take much for you, huh?

Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
Abraham responds to Miranda!
Undefeated IBF middleweight champion King Arthur Abraham has advised Edison Miranda to seek psychological help following his latest verbal outburst. "He must still be traumatised by our first meeting," King Arthur (25-0, 20 KOs) said. "I kicked his butt even though I had my jaw broken twice. That must have done something to his heart and brain. If Miranda wants to speak to someone about his mental problems, then he should go and see a psychiatrist." Miranda publicly demanded a rematch with Abraham – even though according to Sauerland Event he had turned down an offer for a rematch last summer. "I cannot understand Miranda´s remarks at all," Sauerland managing director Chris Meyer said. "Last summer, when Arthur had to make his mandatory defense, we offered Miranda a rematch. But he turned down and moved up to super middleweight instead." Wilfried Sauerland also laughed off Miranda´s latest antics. "Arthur is the best middleweight in the world," the manager stated. "He will fight anybody anywhere."

I'll believe that when I see him come stateside to face Pavlik. His camp makes a good point about Miranda giving up his chance to rematch, but I think pigs will fly before he leaves Germany to fight a top caliber opponent. Still, he's probably the 3rd best MW, behind Pavlik and Taylor.

Miranda remained the mandatory after the 'robbery' in their first fight. When Pantera decided to fight Pavlik to get to Tayor, the mandatory was dropped and given to Gevor. That was the only time a rematch could have happened. There was never an offer after that.

Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
I agree. Abraham recent opponents have been bad. But Miranda's recent opponents have been straight garbage. I can't believe he's actually running his mouth.

Allen Green was more dangerous than anyone Abraham has fought lately....at least he was supposed to be

Porras incidentally fought this weekend. Knocked out by a 20 year old Mexican...

Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
Regardless of recent opoosition(and even then,AA is fighting a guy that Banks beat twice,we saw what Pantera did to Banks), Miranda had the balls to go to AA's backyard and beat 2 bags of shit out of AA,bearly ending his career. Since then,Pantera has fought guys like Green,Pavlik,Banks and a fight with Pascal in the pipeline. Who has AA fought since their fight? Who has AA fought bar Pantera? And remember Edison had to go to him. I want to see a rematch in the States where Miranda does not have to fight the ref and the fighter.
I heard that alot of dodgy stuff was going on the fight in Europe bar the ridiculous point deductions and the fact that the fight should have been a TKO. I don't subscribe to the AA showed heart,he was FORCED to carry on. Watch the fight,he clearly didn't want to continue, his corner forced him to.
Bring his cheap ass to the States, I really want to see Miranda kTFO big time.

Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
i would like to see pavlik- abraham, i wouldn't mind a miranda abraham rematch either
-
Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
I'm a big fan of King Arthur but there is no question his opposition, Miranda aside has been piss poor.
Miranda fought Howard Eastman when Eastman was still a somebody, the same Eastman who was unlucky to lose to Abraham. He fought an ubeaten Allen Green, he fought Kelly Pavlik as well and is now going to fight unbeaten Jean Pascal. Significantly he also travelled to Abraham's back yard to make that fight happen.
Even his softest fight against David Banks has still twice defeated Abraham's next world title opponent.
I'm losing all respect for Abraham right now, he's picking simply unworthy opponents. In back to back fights with Elcock and Alaya it's hard to pick another champion in the whole of boxing who is taking easier fights.
Miranda's level of competition is much higher, to deny this is simply to know nothing about boxing.
-
Re: Pantera blasts Abraham.... and he is right!
....anyone think a John Duddy-Arthur Abraham fight would be a good one? And that would be a HUGE step up in competition for Arthur....Duddy would be a step UP in competition for him :o
That's how poor the opponents he has been fighting are....hell even fight a good German like Sylvester or Sturm!
Abraham is the new Svenn Ottke

Nah even Ottke faced a prime Robin Reid and Charles Brewer not to mention Anthony Mundine and Glen Johnson.
So far Abrahams record doesn't come close to Ottke's

...yeah but those were tag-team fights...Ottke and the Ref vs the other fighter

Firstly Miranda isn't a champion Abraham is.
Secondly Miranda travelled to Germany to face Abraham, something that Abraham would NEVER do.
Thirdly he's also beaten Allan Green who is better than anyone Abraham has ever faced and will next fight Jean Pascal who again is better than anyone Abraham has ever faced, Miranda aside. He fought Kelly Pavlik also who is literally light years ahead of anybody Abraham has ever faced.
Miranda's opponents'
Eastman
Abraham
Green
Pavlik
Pascal
Abraham
Eastman
Miranda (home advantage though)
To be fighting Elvin Ayala in a world title defense is a farce. This was the guy Sergio Mora took as a tune up following a year layoff. The same fighter who David Banks beat twice.
Abraham as a world champ should have fought better opposition. Miranda's opposition is better than virtually every other prospect at 168 lbs.
In fact name another prospect at 160 or 168 who has fought better opposition than Miranda. :)

Abraham isn't a world champion. He's a belt holder. Kelly Pavlik is world champion. In a division with such clear lineage, Abraham is nothing more than a contender.
That's nice thought, Abraham v Duddy. I'm pretty sure AA wins, but it might take German refs/judges.
