Actually I think Gatti is who put him on the map. He revamped his style and got him to box a little. Which probably lengthened his career by 5 years or so. That being said, I have always questioned his strategy. Especially against PBF. It was criminal in my opinion to try to get Gatti to outbox PBF. Dumbest strategy ever....Quote:

Well I won't speak on McGirt as far as his success with all his fighters, but Jason Litzau would have lost that fight with Guerrero even if GOD was in his corner:p

Buddy isn't the worst trainer but maybe a little overrated. a lot of his fighters do lose. IMO he trains to many fighters. How many times have you seen Buddy train the fighter on the undercard and main event. ive been saying this for years.
Funny you brought this up, I was thinking thie earlier. I can't think of bringing in McGirt lately has helped. I think Paulie hans't looked as good with him.
I think Buddy does a good thing in teaching technique and thinking in the ring. But you can't turn everyone into a "boxer." Instead of building up the strengths of his fighters, he tries to turn them all into slick boxers like he was. This is why his boxers often looked confused in fights and usually lose.

I don't think it is Buddy, I think it is the fact he'll take on any ol' bum and work on him. He has some good names in there but you can't fix a broken fighter,especially a veteran one. These guys aren't gonna really change when it comes down to a tough fight. They always revert back to what they were. Buddy does have a bad streak lately tho,lol.
If I'm not mistaken,he trains Vernon Forest. He is scheduled to,or trying to,fight Sergio"latin Snake" Mora. You can count on a destruction there and Mcgirt 's guy will be the one left standing.

Litzau's only chance of winning that fight was to go in there and try to knock out Robert Guerrero. Thanks to Buddy McGirt, Litzau tried to box with Guerrero and got picked apart. Why anyone would bring in Buddy to train a slugger to be a boxer on short notice is beyond me. With Arturo Gatti it was different because Gatti had been a boxer before he turned slugger, so McGirt only needed to get him back to what he had been before. With Litzau, trying to make him a scientific boxer on short notice was a disaster.Quote:

Are you kidding? That was the best possible strategy for Gatti. If he'd come in trying to brawl he would have been kayoed in half the time. McGirt didn't want him to take the fight and knew there was no hope however he decided to fight PBF. At least by boxing he was able to last a while.Quote:

Just thought i'd bump this as i still haven't ever seen a Buddy McGirt fighter actually win a fight. And i've seen some weird shit in my life.

McGirt was all the rage back in the early 2000s. Didn't he win trainer of the year award?

The last fights I remember him winning was a few Malignaggi fights and the Adamek-Briggs rematch. Other than that...I'm drawing a blank.
I think Ronnie Shields is a decent trainer, I like his style better than Buddy's...Buddy offers no advice in tough situations he just says he'll stop the fight.Quote:
